For me that would be a once in a life time trip.  I'm very happy for you.  Over the years I got to go to one GNRS in 2013, sponsored by LC over at the treasure d site. .  Met many of the forum guys I had corresponded with for over a decade.  For me it was a wonderful 2 day hunt.  I often wonder how much better, or rather what I'd found if I'd had my Equinox. 

Well I can say for sure the wireless headphones that come with the 800 model are the best I've found so far.  I've been experimenting with different wireless brands of headphones and I've yet to find a single pair that comes close to the performance and minimal lag time compared to the stock phones.  Amazing machine.

Sharing the day with your son is by far the best.  Even though the finds are great "I've only found one large cent in 20 years" the memories made for both you and your son are more precious.

Over the past 15 years a 6" coil doesn't give much depth in my ground.  In fact, I've not found a single 6" coil that can hit my 6 1/2" dime (buried for over 8 years now) But 6" might be the max for all small coils.  But depth is not the most important factor to me.

I'm very tempted to start selling off a couple coils and fund myself a 6" Equinox coil.

Great information. For years I've wanted to take the time with a small coil, find and mark what I believe to be good targets, then switch to the stock coil and see what I get.  That would be very interesting to say the least.

I've have a standing offer to hunt a very old cemetery for over 10 years.  I was asked to hunt for a class ring that was lost there many decades earlier by the person that takes care of the cemetery.  I have told her many times I might, just didn't feel real good about it but I have hunted church grounds before and found some relics.  But I may go ahead and hunt anyway.

I feel people are really jumping on the bandwagon before actually spending a little time with the new update. 

Is it different?  absolutely

Is it better than the original version?  To early, all the facts are not in.

I myself love the challenge of testing new stuff, so I'm good with either version.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, the audio on my machine seems to be more enhanced, more detail, can't quite nail it down just yet. 

I don't want anyone to think I'm making this up, but for me the audio seems to be more detailed and pronounced after the update.  Case in point, last Saturday was the first time I hunted after the update and I'd say, for me the audio reminds me of the Tesoro machines.  I don't remember the machine having that much audio clarity before the update. 

I'll share a nail story from many years ago:

 I had the great pleasure to hunt with an older guy "David Linville, deceased" many years ago. He hunted with a single tone machine, not a BFO, I with a top of the line. We were hunting a very old school yard, he was finding good stuff, me, well I won't say. Any way I was digging a lot of bent nails and he had dug none. I was so curious I had to ask why, his reply, "I can tell by the sound". My reply, bull, he let me listen to a few of the targets before he dug. They all sounded the same to me, but his years of experience had trained his ears to the small changes in the audio that I couldn't hear. Any way he was good at finding rings behind me. Mono tone is great in some areas, but I could never mimic how he hunted. I sure miss David.

The more time you put on the Equinox the more you will start hearing.

If you find yourself digging more nails try rotating around the target before digging. If the ID is solid I always dig and yes on occasion I'd dig a large nail but that's okay because I've often found a nice relic in the same hole.

As for falsing, Alluminati is right.  Give yourself and the updated machine more time to accumulate to one another.

A lot of these audio signatures will come with added time on the Equinox.  When I first got my EQ I don't remember hearing some of these subtle nuance's in the audio report.  The best thing to do is practice and hunt.  On off days when I don't have time to hunt I hit my test garden and listen to each target. 

That might be a good suggestion for you.  Bury a few coins at various depths and orientations.  Bury a pop pull tab at 3" and maybe a beer pull tab at a different depth laying horizontal.  Now bury a beaver tab at 3" and practice listening to each.   In a short period time you'll start hearing some of these differences.
