  1. No info on what lower shafts alone will cost. I would consider this mod for my 4500. It would ride better on my wheeler.
  2. Great relics, I like the old rim-fires and the slag pour particularly.
  3. Thanks for the great answer Steve. I hope this thread dispels the fog surrounding this murky subject.
  4. I often see posts on various forums where people use high GB phase numbers as examples of hot, mineralized ground. I thought that GB phase numbers are only indicative of the TYPE of ground(rock, soil, clay, salt). Rock, soil, and clay can actually be pretty benign or very mineralized. Isn't the determining factor for hot ground that affects metal detectors the amount of Fe3 in the soil? A phase reading of 89 may be mild soil if the amount of IRON in the soil is low. Conversely a phase reading of 65 may be very hot ground if the ground consists of clays with high iron content. Some VLF detectors now have Fe3 meters on them and the higher the reading is on that meter the more the ground will affect your detection depth and the accuracy of the VDI number(if supplied). It seems like many people are confused by this. I think it is important info that can affect your coil selection(size and type), the amount of discrimination you may choose to use, and the mode(all-metal or discriminate) that we run in. We need somebody that knows their stuff to give us a definitive answer!
  5. Klunker, now you have let the cat out of the bag. Once people de-code your message to reveal the coords of the patch the place will look like it has been trampled by a buffalo herd! If you had worked harder at it and not napped most of the afternoon away you may have at least covered your fuel costs. LOL
  6. A person does not want to approach a desert tortoise too closely. When frightened they may dump extra water they have stored in their bladder. This can lead to early death.
  7. Paul, your extensive use of acronyms has left me feeling as if I am navigating in a dense fog. Sorry I can not be of help. You know how it always makes my day if I can school you on ANY topic. LOL Hopefully one of our high tech wizards that frequent these environs will endow you with the knowledge you desire.
  8. Paul, just cause you are my buddy I was gonna offer you $500 for that Makro P.O.S. but I see by your photo you are $0.45 to the good so my new offer is $499.55. Oh yeah....you must pay shipping.
  9. "Please, no rants, opinion, or anything off the topic." Jasong, you do realize this is a public forum? You may be asking too much? If I wanted the info you are asking for I would contact The PLP, AMRA, WMA, or Pacific Legal Foundation. Those folks collectively should possess info on enough government abuses (citations included) to keep you busy for a long, long time. I wish you the best of luck on your quest!
  10. Good for you my friend. One less thing for me to worry about. Now just remember to take it with you. My 406 has a permanent home(pocket)in my back pack. My brother often has his attached to his prospecting suspenders.
  11. The shaft on the Infinium is a P.O.S., Garrett should hide their face in shame. I bought a $50 chinese detector for my kids that had a better shaft.
  12. Cabin Fever, that is a nice job you did on your detector. I actually purchased a Tesoro Silver Sabre U-max detector on Steves recommendation. I just have not had the time to do the conversion. I think I may just make me a rod out of PVC to begin with. I wont be using it to detect, only as a discriminating pinpointer. My Tesoro was supposedly used but looks like it has never seen soil- a 1993 wayback machine. I just can't cut it up until I bang it up some. It's just to darn pretty. I am also interested in trying the 4" accessory coil out on some nail beds in stock configuration. I had to give $90 for the Tesoro 4" coil. How much was the NEL?
  13. Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every New Year find you a better man. ~ Benjamin Franklin (Poor Richard's Almanac, 1755)
  14. 1)Like Klunker I wish to find some pocket gold. 2)Find some gold using my new SDC2300. 3) Just spend some time reflecting and being thankful for all the wonderful people I know and the opportunities afforded me as a citizen of this great nation.
  15. Jasong , thanks for the interesting post and video. I have been a subscriber of your you tube channel for awhile but must admit never spending much time on it. I think I will see what else you have on there that is interesting.
  16. Paul, read the reviews. $150 per yr subscription on auto renew that is almost impossible to cancel. Looks like they have great marketing, so-so performance, and horrible customer service. I am keeping my 406 EPIRB. No monthly subscription and better performance.
  17. Mike, this is an interesting post and a great review. Thanks for taking the time, I enjoyed learning about this machine.
  18. Well said Paul. I like discrimination because every ferrous target I don't dig is time and energy saved to dig non-ferrous targets that hopefully are gold not bullets. I would spend good money on a PI/VLF hybrid. I think I would make my money back and more.
  19. A little longer than that Mitchel. Supposedly get off that scow about January 29.
  20. Don't count the Turks out. Quite a while back on this forum there was a post about what they intended to manufacture in the coming years and one item was a VLF/PI hybrid.
  21. Merry Christmas Jennifer and welcome to the forum!
  22. Hey Ray, you are correct about the Deus and new coil. I think it is going to be a great combo. My problem is I just like metal detectors. I like to learn about them, use them. I need another detector like I need a hole in the head but I would not be surprised if I don't buy one. Paul should have a used low hour Gold Racer for sale dirt cheap inside of 6 months so I will wait for it . Hi Mitchel, if this rain doesn't stop by the end of January look for me in Tuscon this year. I imagine you will be there?
  23. Rick, you are 0-3, none of your guesses are correct. LOL I left the RV in Oregon because I did not want to tow over the Siskiyou Summit in the snow. I am holed up in a motel in Redding bored to tears. I thought the weather might break and I could get some detecting in but that is looking unlikely. I swing my bags over the bulwarks on the 23rd in Frisco bay. You just keep on lovin that gold bug buddy, I sold mine. Paul, thanks for all the up-beat advice. With friends like you........... Scott, I am glad you are an early adopter. Since you trashed the Deus as being unworthy of prospecting efforts in the northern counties I will know if you keep the Gold Racer I better save my pennies. Steve, thanks for the synopsis of the machine and its discrimination capabilities. I have pretty much decided to wait and see but hey! We need something to talk about when the weather sucks.
