    Hi Basstrackerman ,

I plan to use a Simplex shaft for my D2 too ... I like the rectangular shape of the Nokta shaft system , which prevents the stems by design

I have a question , what did you do to adapt the Simplex lower shaft coil connector to the D2 coil connector ? They are very different ... thx ...

    DSC03233.JPG

Here is what I use. 2 nylon washers/spacers. 3/4" in diameter, one is 1/16" thick other is 1/8th" thick.  Use thickest one on the side with cone wedge and thinner one with rubber washer.  You can super glue them in so you get better results and they pop right out even if they're super glued if you want to change that lower shaft for something else. But you can pick these up off of Amazon or any hardware store should have them. That's really all you need and the stock bolt kit for the lower on the Deus. But once these are glued in the lower rod for the simplex will pretty much bolt right on and the only other thing I did was I sanded a little bit of the lower shaft down just use some standard sandpaper The part that would possibly rub the top of the coil after it's bolted on that's the only part you have to sand off and it took about two or three minutes to do and then that's it.

  2. I read many posts about people trying to improve their XP Deus 2 setup including myself.  This is the very reason I sold my remote, it kept falling off the mount, my antenna wire corroded from the inside , shaft isn't long enough for tall people, and changing gray plug to red plug... I kept the WS6 master , bought Steve's straight shaft and zip tied the puck mount to the stem mount so it won't come off.  I no longer use a deus for water hunting.  Manticore does all of that very well and with zero hassle.  I love XP products, but the entire shaft , mounting system needs a complete overhaul IMO.  I use the Anderson XP pistol grip mount on Steve's straight shaft and a minelab monster 1000 arm cuff.   I also use a simplex entire shaft , removed display and coil and made a mount for the puck and that works great.   And they all work better than the stock XP Deus shaft for me.

Unfortunately, for me it does not represent a viable option...I use the D2 only underwater and the Ws6 does not have this capability.

Well this setup would work for the remote also and it would swivel so you can turn the screen in a position you want and the handles hollow and goes down into the shaft so you could always run your antenna wire on the inside of the shaft if you wanted

I actually damn like the mod...

Most of all, I'm dreaming to zip tie the f#ck#g remote in this way to the shaft clip...🤣

So I'd never be forced again to see it dangling around like a pendant with the antenna's cable.

    IMG_20240107_023426.jpg

This is why I sold the remote and kept the WS6 master. But I still zip tied the WS6 mount to the mount that attaches to the shaft that way it would virtually be impossible for it to ever fall off again.

  5. I use a simplex entire shaft. I'm gonna order the carbon fiber center shaft.  With the aluminum center the entire shaft included coil hardware and arm cuff and strap only weighs 1 lb 1.2 oz.  So 17.2 oz which may even be less than the stock deus shaft.  It's also longer by 3" or more so I don't need a tall man rod anymore. I used the Anderson mount to mount onto top of grip to mount the remote or in my case WS6 master.   Works great!  Feels much better than stock.

  6. I want you guys to give me your opinion on this here's a couple of pictures I found this at the beach in the wet sand ringing up as iron on the legend. When I picked it up it looked like the size of a penny so I threw it in my pouch and saved it till I got home I cleaned it up and they're silver coloring on the coin , I thought well maybe it's silver and it's just really destroyed from the saltwater.  But then I stuff a magnet to it and it stuck The only other thing that I can think of it being is the 1943 steel penny. I have a few of them so I compared the size and what's left of it looks just like it but why would it be silver in color after the saltwater got a hold of it for however long it looks like it's been in the water for a long time it's got holes through it. I know they're silver and color when they're used and uncirculated but I've heard of people finding them in the ground and it was just nothing but a clot of rust and they thought it might have been a steel penny. What's your thoughts thanks    edit my steel pennies do not have reeded edges.  Now I don't know.  Lol

I only had one custom program and it was still there. Process went smoothly and pinpointer works now. My custom program is based on Beach Sensitive, the pinpointer button would turn on the display but no sound from V1.1 on. Additionally I didn't have to update anything else.

    Thank you.  That's great!

Just updated my WS6 Master, and it did not erase my custom program. 🥳 It's called V2.00 SPECIAL.20230922_151524.thumb.jpg.7e9b9c3c09c794651b5db7fefc648276.jpg

Pinpoint is working, but I'll have to wait until Sunday to take it to the beach. Ophelia is just about here. Hoping for some beach erosion.

    Thanks XP! 👍

So this update won't erase saved programs on my ws6?

From my previous post on Steve's rods.  My opinion has not changed

Bottom Line up front: This is simply a work of art that promises to significantly improve the detecting experience of Deus II users.

Fit, Finish, Balance and Weight: As in all of Steve’s shafts, the fit and finish is truly superb. He has once again gone to great lengths to make a shaft that is really superior. The weight is a feather light 16.61 ounces and I can sense that the balance has been improved over the stock version

Shaft Length and Lock up: The length of the lower rod and overall shaft is longer than the stock XP shaft which allows the lower shaft to extend farther up into the middle shaft providing greater stability. The cam locks are far superior to the stock shaft and are the same ones he used on his Equinox version--tight as a bank vault.

Arm Cuff and Stand: The cuff and stand are much improved over the stock set up. The cuff is also of carbon fiber and extremely stiff. The stand is wider and taller resulting in greater stability when resting the Deus on the ground and is infinitely adjustable to any length of reach. Steve even provides the Allen wrench needed to tighten it down.

Grip: The grip is carbon fiber and very comfortable with a slight finger bump which helps to insure a firm hold. Great pains were taken here regarding the angle of the grip which provides a comfortable hold and the length of thumb reach to the Remote Control (RC) buttons is very accessible.

Mount and Coil Attachment: Steve’s rod came with a cap over the RC mount as does the stock shaft. This was a bear to remove as the fit has been improved to prevent unintentional dropping of the RC when in use. The RC mount is very solid with tighter tolerances. This resulted in a much better fit than the stock mount with which Deus II users are all too familiar—the RC can easily drop off the stock shaft after an inadvertent bump. Steve’s mount really secures the RC tightly. Even so, he designed an attached locking mechanism that can be thumb or screw driver tightened which provides an added level of security. The coil attachment uses the stock XP hardware so there is no need for anything proprietary.

Shaft: As I said, the shaft is not only longer than the stock shaft but round versus the triangular shape of the the XP shaft. This may take a little getting used to as the shaft now freely rotates when the locking cams are opened. I questioned this at first but then realized the benefit. I can now precisely select the angle of the RC so I can view the screen better if that’s what I wanted to do. Great!

Options: Steve offers several options that will personalize your shaft. If you like he will provide the capability for an internal channel for the underwater antenna and can outfit the upper shaft to accommodate a counterbalance weight just as he did with the Equinox. Even though this shaft is longer than the stock one, he can also provide additional length for those really really tall folks.

Conclusion: This shaft is an extremely usable thing of beauty in my view. It has been very well thought out and in great detail. It’s rugged and stiff with absolutely no wobble. It was very simply and very clearly designed and built with the user in mind and with user input from multiple user sources.

You can read Steve’s own words about this shaft with photos at:

Well it wasn't about the quality of his work that was concerning me because I've used his shafts before and they're fantastic. It was about me and my 3XL hands and the way the WS6 master locks onto the stem mount. It's about a half inch lower than the remote and my hand rubs the remote at times but with the puck my hand will literally knock it off plus it rubbing on my hand so much it kind of a annoying. Here are a couple of pictures of the Anderson shaft it's actually quite nice and since I was able to lower the weight down I'll probably just use it I don't see any benefit right now. In the pictures you can see even with my big hands there's plenty of room on the handle. Plus it has a swivel so you can turn the remote or the WS6 master towards you so you'd have a better viewing of it. Also I zip tied as you can see in the one picture The puck mount to the stem mount so there's zero chance of it falling off so I just popped the WS6 into the puck mount and when I need to take it off I just pop it back out The mount stays on the stem mount. But yeah this thread was not too bash Steve in any way because he makes amazing products I've used them I've talked to him a few times and message him a few times so I know what he does is amazing I'm just an oddball because I wear a 17 shoe and a 3X glove and it's hard to find things that are comfortable for me. The old white's machines that I used for 20 some years 30 years The handle is never big enough for my hands so I had the three finger it all them years because the pinpoint trigger was in the way lol

As much as I love the SteveG carbon fiber shaft, it appears that his handle and mount are nearly identical to the XP shaft, and it's not much lighter as I recall. However it is a lot less flexible, and provides an option to route the waveguide cable through the shaft albeit not perfectly

When I use the stock XP shaft I always use the legend or simplex carbon fiber lower rod they're about two and a half inches longer and they help since I'm tall but I sold off that shaft with the remote or coil a complete unit and I kept back the WS6 master one of my coils and the WSA two headphones and then I purchased the Anderson shaft which actually works really well. But it is a little heavier I was able to lighten it yesterday by about 3.4 oz so it's only about 2 oz heavier now than the stock Deus shaft or Steve's shaft. So I may end up just having to keep this and use it since I'm not built like normal people lol.  Thank you very much for that information I appreciate it That's exactly what I was looking for

I'll take a look at this for you, I have all of the above, just need to find a minute to test it. My hands are large, but yours must be huge if you're having issues with the WS-6 Master. 🤔

Well the WS6 master sits about a half of an inch lower once snapped into place on the stem. Yes I have very large hands. When the puck is on the xp deus shaft it hangs low enough to hit my hand. A few times it had popped off due to that.   At the moment I'm using an Anderson carbon fiber shaft with a swivel mount and it's working but it's a heavier shaft by several ounces.

I have the same hole in mine and the same problem, I've popped two bolts so far trying to keep it tight. This is with the SteveG shaft, I don't use it on the standard one. It stays on for a while but then... Pop. 😀 Needless to say I guess I keep extras with me.

Well that stinks. I slid that white nylon washer in there so the picture would show how round the hole was. This is the first XP coil I've ever owned that is like this. I send a text to my dealer to see what he thinks so I know what to do. But I don't think this is right I think these have to be defective. I can't imagine XP making a perfectly round circle when they use that wedge knowing if the coil pivots that wedge is going to pivot with the coil and the wind nut has a little rubber washer built onto it so it's going to grip that wedge and that wedge is going to turn that wing nut and loosen it every single time the coil moves.

  13. Ok I have a d2 11x13 coil and this is the first XP Deus coil I've ever owned that doesn't have that hour glass shaped hole for the wedge piece to slide into. Mine is a perfectly round hole and my bolt never stays tight, it loosens constantly.  My other XP coils never became loose .  Is my coil defective?  Or is this normal?  Every pic incan find online has the usual hour glass shaped hole on the one side for that wedge just like in one of the pics I shared.  Can you guys that have one please give me some feedback on what your coil has?   Thanks.

This is wrong in my opinion. New Equinox and Mcore have a new sealing system, which is fully waterproof when the pod is mounted on its own shaft. The battery cap is a bit carved, so the shaft (once the pod is mounted) keeps this cap well sealed.

With this tool you have an empty space between the cap and the shaft...

I was mainly talking about the idea of a folding mount since these are 3D printed all you'd have to do is print out a filler piece to make up that little gap in there or just fill the whole top mount in so it's a permanent piece. So it would be an easy fix

A good way  to look at it is that anything off  the center line is more like the ground--more magnetic, more corroded..  Some targets like many rusted caps (20/21)are so strong  in both top and bottom iron ranges that you get what's called a "cross feed"-a tone that mimics something that would respond in the center.  However there will be no middle line painting--just dots top  and bottom.  Hate  to say it but basic skills willl reveal a lot of these--just going to a cross wise coil pass will show big changes in the graph and meter.  You just can't put a ot of  power into the ground and not have these 'bleeds".  The graph should confirm other info--not be a stand alone substitute for basic skills. Where you hear a flat, clipped or broken tone--this will usually coincide with a graph with top and bottom edge painting.

    cjc

I'm aware of all of this as I've been listening to tones for over 40 years and using the cross method along with others.  I was mainly talking about the smooth tones with a decent round dot above or below center line not touching it.  People were complaining about falsing on nail heads with smooth tones and it mimics the sound of coin tones with smooth edges.  This usually happens when sensitivity is set too high and maybe using ATHC .  Using ATLC pretty much completely eliminated this.  But I was also trying to gather Information on how often are people finding good keepers that do not show up on, or touching center line.   That's all .
