  1. WOW, Thank you Steve. Was'nt expecting that! Very good info. Once again, go to the front of the class... 11 out of 10 for effort! No chart... no problem! As usual its "horses for courses" with detectors. Joking aside, thanks for all your knowlegable replies which must seem like a full time job. I 'm sure everyone will agree with this! P.S. Please don't be put off with your independent testing the EQUINOX. Don't let the idiot's, fools and low life's get in the way of you love doing, what you need to do, what you want to do. After all, you do it for yourself and for us, the 99%... P.S. Still no whispers about your elusive/magic "dry land/sub $2000/lightweight/LTX/ or similar, PI machine" then? Fisher must be the next one up? thanks again jim
  2. vanursepaul Posted February 25, 2015 Steve, I would like to see you superimpose the ATX on this bar graph to see where it fits. Paul The whole graph isnt there, but you know what i mean, eh? Steve, remember this one? ...Did you ever do it? Maybe you could have a go at superimposing 2 new columns for each of the 3 nugget pics. (space to the left and right of the GPX and GPZ). Time permitting of course! I'm thinking 1 column representing the old style DEEP SEARCHER 15" x 20" coil, and another for the new flat style, 11" x 13" closed DD coil. If you had space,... stretch it, or create a new chart,... you could even throw in the TDI, and even a Golg Bug for reference/fun. Also assuming similar ground conditions, good or bad. For example:- How close is the 11" x 13" DD coil to the STD coil on the GPX 5000? And whats it like against the SDC2300 on small bits? And is the 15" x 20" coil deeper than the STD GPX 5000? And how far away from the GPZ is it, on big bits? Doesn't have to be an exact scientific test orientated job, more of an approximate one based on your time and experience with this machine. I know its not you No1 gold machine (but is, & could be for others), and you love it for wet beaches, but you won't sell it which says a lot about it... I think. With all the latest new vlf stuff (equinox/gm1000/impact/mx sport/at max) getting all the headlines & peoples attention, does no harm to reflect on something old, something different. After all, YOUR elusive/magic/dry land/sub $2000/lightweight/LTX PI machine hasn't arrived yet! (MINELAB/GARRETT/FISHER/NOKTA/MAKRO/XP??? Wonder who will be first then?)....THAT WILL DEFINATELY GET EVERYONE EXCITETED! I don't think its (ATX) a dead duck. I'm still thinking there's more to it (prospecting) than being relegated to a SUPERB beach PI machine. Just don't bring the weight into it!!! Have you tested the closed DD coil? Improved falsing and balance issues? Thankyou in advance! jim
  3. Looks like a potentially brilliant machine! Proof of the pudding will be in the eating... as usual. Hats off to Minelab personnel for keeping stumpfh on this for 9 months!!! Any independent real world testing been carried out with this yet? Testing in the 4 operational modes need to be done to see if it really can beat its rival in each usage sector... e.g. 1- GOLD MODE:- EQUINOX 800 (20 kHz) vs GOLD BUG....... & EQUINOX 800 (40 kHz) vs GM1000 / DEUS HF / GOLD RACER / GB2 2- BEACH MODE:- EQUINOX (multi freq) vs SOVEREIGN GT / EXCALIBER / DEUS 3- FIELD MODE:- EQUINOX vs DEUS / CTX / RACER 2 / IMPACT / AT PRO 4- PARK MODE:- EQUINOX vs DEUS / CTX3030 / IMPACT / AT PRO After all that is done, then we can decide if all other single freq vlf's are obsolete! Any info on weight or coil options yet? jim
  4. WE'RE NEARLY THERE FOLKS! ANY LATEST LAST MINUTE INFO OR INSIDER RUMOURS??? EQUINOX??? SURELY SOMEBODY MUST KNOW SOMETHING??? ANY AUSTRALIAN WHISPERS??? C'MON SPILL THE BEANS!!! JIM
  5. Thanks for an honest reply. sorry it just didn't work for you. So, using each of the VLF machines that you have, (G2/GM1000/GB2/GR) as benchmarks, how did the deus compete, performance wise, on a 1 to 1, direct segment comparison. e.g. high freq gold bug 2 vs deus at 80 kHz, and gold racer/GM1000 vs deus at 60 kHz, ect, ect. Did it win, or was it strong, or could it at least compete in any direct comparison test at similar freq's, with your current vlf's. How close was it? splitting hairs close, or night and day away? Performance / depth only... leave ergonomics, screen size, batteries, handling, charging cables aside. thanks jim
  6. Hello Steve. Just noticed you sold the new xp deus hf coil. What happened, or what went wrong with experiment "XP DEUS V4 -HF ELIPTICLE" ??? Was kinda hoping you'd found the "do-it-all" holy grail you and others were looking for, including myself. Any updated info, or maybe you have a write up in waiting. jim
  7. Hello all OK. firstly not talking about dedicated beach machines like EXCAL II, CZ21, AND THE TIGER SHARK. What would be the best top 3 (decending order ) normal, single freq, prospecting, vlf machines that would be good on wet salt water beaches. I know they wont be as good or as ideal as a dedicated beach machine, but having this capability on a general purpose or prospecting machine would be nice. I'm assuming 14-15 kHz maximum freq, ruling out the AT GOLD, FORS RELIC & GOLD+.? I'm thinking:- MAKRO RACER 2, WHITES MXT & MX SPORT, GARRETT AT PRO, FISHER GOLD BUG/F19/T2, etc, etc. How much are they giving away to the EXCAL II or the CZ21? 20-30% in depth? Looking ahead, is this where the new multi frequency NOKTA IMPACT & FISHER CZX/MOSCA machines might be even better all rounders? thanks jim
  8. Thanks Paul for that valuable info. TOP MAN! I didn't know you had an ATX. Have you ever used an SDC2300 in the water? WELL DONE TVANWHO! LOOKS LIKE STEVES WISH CAME TRUE THEN! (see link below). That's a real handy looking little machine. Fisher Gold Bug 2 Pinpointer Conversion By Steve Herschbach in Detector Prospector Forum, 6 Jun 2015 Not too long ago I posted about converting a Tesoro Silver uMax into a pinpointer at... 13 replies steves quote:- "I did recently try and sell a couple manufacturer reps on the idea. A factory made version would be cleaner and cost no more than a standard pinpointer. I do think many people want a pinpointer with more depth and iron discrimination. Tell you favorite manufacturer to make these!" WELL DONE STEVE! SEE ANYTHING ELSE INTERESTING ELSE IN THAT CRYSTAL BALL OF YOURS? Thanks again guys jim
  9. Hello Paul. Thanks for your input. Very impressive setups you have there. What kind of depth are you getting with the HEADHUNTER headset and probe under water? Been googlin those GOLDQUEST machines. With that 10us, they seem to have been the best suited, underwater, beach, gold finder in their day. Reports say better than the newer TDI and INFINEUM. I wonder how it would compare against the highly rated ATX at the beach? I believe the aquasearch version is waterproof. Do you Know what the differences are on the V2 and V3? What handheld probe are you using on the GOLDQUEST? Most of your machines as you say are pi. Would some of the new generation VLF machines do the same job.(freshwater) e.g. A NOKTA AU GOLD FINDER, backpack mounted with a small coil on a hand held stem/rod? What percentage in depth would be lost in the water with VLF technology? Starting to think an SDC 2300 might be ideal Thankyou everyone for the advice and input jim
  10. Was thinking. Maybe someone who khows what they are doing, could put together a diagram or chart of sorts showing the differences of all these machines. I don't mean a features comparison, I'm thinking task suitability. I have in my head a suitable diagram which would show the effect of how suitable/strong each detector would be operating in different enviroments, or detecting tasks, e.g. fine gold/nuggets/coin & relic/dry beach /wet beach etc. I have no clue how to produce it on a computer, but i could draw it out on paper, scan it on to here, then it could be be printed out modified/updated/rehashed more accurately by whoever, (steve?) and rescanned back in. OR, someone with a computer brain bigger than mine could make up a proper digital chart! It could be for any/all detectors not just MAKRO/NOKTA Any takers??? thanks jim
  11. Is there a more powerful/deeper alternative to the usual pinpointers.? Need a small handheld, waterproof nugget detector, with a 2"-4" coil, suitable for snorkelling in small streams. Alternatively, a backpack mounted normal detector(in a waterproof bag), with a tiny coil directly held in the hand, or on a small 6" handle, might work I know there is the NOKTA POINTER & GARRETT PRO POINTER AT. (Lacking depth, and sweep coverage) Also seen the DETECTOR PRO Pistol Probes, VIBRA QUATIC & VIBRA TECTOR 730, & FALCON MD20. Would any of these work for me? (Possibly too low a frequency for nuggets) Anyone got any ideas
  12. Just found this. Check it out http://md-hunter.com/nokta-impact-to-be-triple-frequency-machine-another-new-product/#more-6135 Rumours of April/May release. Maybe Dilek could provide an information update. thanks jim
  13. Have you any clue as to where Whites head might be on a AT GOLD beater, using the MX SPORT platform? thanks jim
  14. Hello lads, great input. "I would be very tempted now by the FORS Relic but would probably go Racer 2 again even though the Relic at 19 kHz has an edge." So regards the 19khz having an edge, how measurable/quantifiable would this "edge" actually be (depth & nugget size) in the real world. Take this scenario as an example:- If 2 of us were covering the same ground, one behind the other, 1 operator with a 56khz GOLD RACER for small stuff, and the other operator with a 14khz RACER 2 OR a 19khz FORS GOLD+, which would be the ideal combination for the best "clean up" ability. What could the 19khz do/find that the 14khz couldn't? (or visa versa) thanks jim
  15. OK. the MX SPORT came out to take on the GARRETT AT PRO. Jury is out on that one at present. Seems a decent detector though, on a good platform. So.... with the waterproof casing already there, why not bring out a dedicated prospecting version at 19khz, with a lot less bells and whistles (tones?), to compete directly with, and hopefully be superior to, the GARRETT AT GOLD? The "WHITES MX GOLD" might be a winner Maybe tboykin can chime in on this? thanks jim
  16. DIRECT QUESTION TO DILEK (MAKRO/NOKTA) Hello Dilek Just enquiring if your company has any plans to release a 19khz version of the RACER 2, or perhaps a 19khz analog version with knobs and switches (similar to AU GOLD FINDER). Think they would be great machines, and the housings, platforms, and technology you already have! Just asking, as the GOLD FINDER and the 19khz FORS GOLD+ came out all of a sudden with no pre announcments. Any latest news on the MAKRO IMPACT? Release date? Any plans in place for a good PI machine? Great detectors by the way! thanks for your time jim
  17. hello steve the Eureka seems to be in the "jack of all trades-master of none" category. An old machine stood still too long? Is it a technology issue with this machine that could now be improved with a blank sheet of paper, modern digital componentry and software, or a simple case of "should have done better", on behalf of MINELAB at the time. I think you mentioned before it was maybe optimized at 1 freq, or had a certain "sweet spot" I believe the xp deus is due to have 4 frequencies between 10 & 40. So it can be done then? Do you know any more news about the MAKRO IMPACT then? Frequencies? Release date? thankou jim
  18. Anyone got one or used one? How does it compare with other familiar brand detectors for prospecting? Performance, capability, tech features, ease of use, ergonomics, good, bad? thanks jim
  19. Thanks for the initial input guys. I am firstly considering a GOLD RACER purchase (high freq vlf). To complement this I want/need a second machine, and maybe down the line, an ATX, or GPX 5000 (Father/son outfit). Common sense would point towards a good mid frequency, vlf machine. Until recently, decent options I had were obviously, GOLD BUG PRO/F19/G2, AT GOLD, XTERRA 705 at 19khz. Then along came the FORS GOLD Plus. Currently the best 19khz prospecting capable machine??? (but not so good platform) And now with the new generation higher tech models, e.g. RACER 2 and MX SPORT (14/15 khz) reported to be prospecting capable, I would have thought they would/could be better again at 19khz. What do you think steve? How much better would they be at 19khz? A little/A lot? Are we splitting hairs with 14 vs 19khz / on a RACER 2. I assume we can forget about beach mode at 19khz. Any other downsides? Maybe a switchable frequency machine. Surely wouldn't be that hard to do? thanks jim
  20. Hello everyone. Just joined Firstly, can I just say a big thankyou to steve and all other contributors on here. Good site. REALLY GOOD SITE! Was thinking. 1- What if Makro was to build a 19khz version of the RACER 2? Call it a MAKRO RACER 2+ (PLUS). (using existing FORS GOLD+ tech and coils etc.) After all, is 19khz not the defacto, holy grail, all round gold prospecting frequency? Maybe make it waterproof too. Based on the online reviews of the 19khz FORS GOLD + (excellent machine), would this not be an even better machine in the Makro packaging??? 2- Also maybe build a waterproof, 19khz, retro/analog version too, similar to what the AU GOLD FINDER is to the GOLD RACER at 56khz At the speed MAKRO/NOKTA do things, these could be available in months! The platforms and tech is already there in the basic RACER 2 & FORS GOLD+ thanks BIG JIM
