Eric it is a dream adventure/trip and take it as such. If you forget the gains that maybe found it is worth it, a cheap ship cruise is about is about $2000 to $5000 a week for 2 people with no return from luck or skill except on the pokies and cards. Just one thing I had all the historical mines locations and extensive GPS use and Knowledge before I went to West Aust in 2003 when I retired. A lot of local Pro. gold prospectors were asking me for gps location of certain mines which I help them locate. I found many unknown spots but someone else had been in the area. There was a few lucky ones that got most of the gold and fortunately a few unlucky ones that missed the gold that made my efforts more than paid off..

If the hole is too big for the little pick, it is worth while going a mile or two to get the big pick. βΊοΈ

I only made one claim in Victoria for detecting. Vic rules were easy back then. I would not make another claim anywhere for detecting alone, as every one else knows where it is as JP said and to work the claim by hand had to have 200 Lt of water for fire protection if I had my vehicle parked on it. At one time we had a Miner Right a lot of that has gone. https://www.eurekapedia.org/Miner's_Right https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/13628/download-report

How Small Does It Need To Be?
geof_junk replied to Lead Detector's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
The gold is too small when you don't feel good after helping it escape the soil that imprison it. -
The coin in the slot on shopping trollies is coming back in Aus.

Biggest Haul Of Beach Coins
geof_junk replied to stupot's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I have no idea what my records is for number of coins found in a day / week as my main interest was gold nuggets. However the value of the coins is secondary as they are stored away only to be looked at or being left for the Grandkids. I got a copy of Aus. coin albums for the silver coins I found and spent some time trying to fill all the holes a feat that would take more than a life time. The first link is showing the ones that were excess. The second is the link to an old post here that contains the albums. Excess Silver Coins. Old DetectorProspector post on silver coins -

Be aware. When watching a partial or annular solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (βeclipse glassesβ) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Instead, there are special solar viewers or filters needed to protect your eyes while looking at a solar eclipse. Look for glasses that are certified ISO 12312-2 and verify the glasses are not expired or damaged.

When I bought a detector price was not factor in choice, however when I upgraded the existing one would be given away as it value was always too low to considering selling it. At the moment our current detector have not moved in to digital/processor type yet but the old analog have found plenty of gold and coins. As they say location and knowing how to use what you got is the best way to go.

That's It! I'm Throwing Away My Detectors!
geof_junk replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
VL if you catch up with Eric tell him it is OK for him to take you to my beach to detect. π But you can't use those glasses there. π Due to currency a 100$ US will buy you $150 AUD meal here. π -
This method works for other source of emi like GPS, phones and other detectors and reduces the interferences.

Why Is A $1500 Pi Even Being Talked About?
geof_junk replied to Gerry in Idaho's topic in AlgoForce Metal Detectors
I had to buy the first one for Carol which I inherited due to the fact that it was the top Garret at the time and she was very Bias to Whites. The first was cash the rest were from selling my beloved nuggets (only the ugly ones π) with much delay and stalling. π -
I Dig Every Signal ! Do You Dig It ?
geof_junk replied to Ridge Runner's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
1980 in Wedderburn at the Australian Detector Rush most people were using discrimination. Not the best back then, however I put a 5 cent bit on the ground not one detector could pick it up at their settings. Two full time prospecting brothers and another were in a spot were one of the brothers go a large signal and said junk. The other one went and dug up the target which was a 36 oz bit. Note the Aus. 5 cent piece was a good test target latter on for PI detectors to gauge their effectiveness on gold.
