  1. I have found a few new ground patches, but in most of them only one or two nuggets would of been found with a drag coil and even less with the size that you desire, the rest you need to grid by hand. How ever you can cover a lot of ground with a machine dragged coil in shorter time in poor ground. I'm sure other will give you their opinions of what is worthwhile, best of luck.
  2. The Australian situation is .......1c and 2c coins will continue to be legal tender: they can still be used to purchase goods and can be deposited with financial institutions in the normal manner." Both coins were withdrawn from circulation commencing in February 1992.
  3. The area of the holes compared to the area of the exposure surface for the holes would give the best thruput of sand. The maximum dimension of the holes related to the target you are chasing should be selected. However do we need to be so concerned on type as most work.
  4. That is the worst detecting skills I have seen. The ground that his missed would be more than 50% of the ground that he was swinging over. To me it looked like a setup, and the gold was found elsewhere. 😒
  5. I see you manage to focus OK on the person behind the kid. 😉
  6. Thanks for that information Steve. I will try to leave some gold for others at those two dozen spots that you have listed. 🤑
  7. Hunterjunk, I like your 1906 Launceston Centenary find. Have not seen one of those before, great find. It must be unique having two Tasmanian tigers (thylacine) on it.
  8. It is very hard to find gold in virgin location. When the nuggets were laying everywhere in 1979-80 I spent about half a years working hours searching virgin ground with no finds. It taught me you have to be in the right ground near (a few miles) known mines or diggings. However once you have got the eye and feel it can be very rewarding. Have a look at an old post of mine.
  9. Some Photos from Vic and WA Aus. Whites 6000D and Aus Whites GoldMaster from early 1980s on the beach after Gold jewellery. Panning South of Ballarat. Note proper Steel Gold Pans. 😁 VIC. Claim I took out after finding 26+ oz in one day. The brother-in-law on claim. WA. Where I found my largest bit, 3500 gm with nearly 17 ounces of gold. General Area of above. Same area but wide view of general spot. A photo that was used on another forum that has now gone the way of many others. Four hundred small bits about 0.3 to 0.4 gm each.
  10. Erik have you checked nice sandy boat landing points for picnics around the island. It might not be the best for coins but rings, watches and necklaces could be at these spots and they would not be hit by weekend detectorist. Hope you are still looking after MY BEACH.
  11. Sound like AI is smarter than some people I know that are convinced they can use it with great success. 😁
  12. Jasong to test AI I would ask it what is the best "long range divining device" to see the results.
  13. Hey that's pretty cool. It's like a six year old repeating the ads on television. Clever. That seems to be the way most people get their knowledge these day. Where as they should use experience and effort on the ground using a device to get the best results for their location..
  14. Look after it, and don't overload it with the nuggets that you will find.
  15. A few bush flies ,after all the rain. There was even more in Leonora in 2004 with no rain, they were looking for eyes to go for a swim.🫣
  16. Sovereigns are 22ct and was used by back yard dentist to make false dentures. The photo below are of my bother in-law beach hunt dentures with a 2 Oz nugget and Aus. $2 coin back in the mid 1980's.
  17. Looking at your area in google earth the terrain shows a lot of slopes due to the height variation. On the geology map look for the "direction line" of the reef that crosses the bulldozer working. Test the ground along this line. To find these lines the old timers would pan up the river or tributary till the gold sample dropped substantially. This showed them where the water/erosion had removed the landscape and reef that shed the gold. I have found that flat areas on the high ground has shallow gold but on flat areas down hill the gold gets deep quickly. On steep slopes the gold is usually shallow but does not remain on the slope as long as flat areas. The incline of a reef that is in the same direction of the slope of the ground sheds a lot of it's gold in a shorter time, but if the incline is in the opposite direction of the ground slope it's gold is shed over a longer time allowing more time for the gold to spread out on the land below the reef. By the looks of the map rivers might be more suitable to detect if bedrock is exposed.
  18. I like looking for undetected ground, this means a lot of walking over the ground. To have a better hit rate for new patches, a bit (really a lot of research) research is required. First get a geo map of the area. Note where the mines are, then take a look at the geo map type of rocks at those location. Use the mine in the area that you select and search for old miners workings, better still the test/sample holes in the rock type that the mine is in. When using a detector to find a spot try keeping in areas that look shallow as detectors are limited in their depth range.
  19. What you do will be no problems for most real members. So looking forward to the new rules.
  20. I will have to check my collection one day.🤑 ....Link....
  21. March is over, so the harvest is ready to start. .......Start of April Harvest......
