  1. I found Elliptical coils were best for ground cover when the target is a strong signal.

That is 14" x 7" coil  will give you about the same penetration as a 7" round coil and a similar ground cover as a 14" round. If the signal is very soft (very small target near the surface or very deep good signal were you have to over lap your swings a round coil wins hands down. ). So a correct size elliptical for patch hunting an a appropriate size round for working a patch.

  2. One thing that I learnt about discriminating is, search in all metal. Discriminating  works more accurate if you lift the coil up from the soil till it gives a definite soft signal. At this volume adjust your disc level and/or read your VDI numbers. I know of cases where an ounce plus nuggets have overload the detector disc and their mate has got the prize.

  3. DEMAND (and or manipulation eg Silver a few years ago ) not rarity determines the price of a commodity.  In recent years only 160 tons of platinum are mined annually, as opposed to 1,500 tons of gold. GB_Amateur I was aware that prices in the article are not current as it has been in the past.In the past platinum has been used to counterfeit gold and has started to happen gain now due to price gap in the price. By the way I have to get someone to buy my gram of Californium soon as it nearly 5 years old now.?
