I had BirdsEye 1 year subscription a few years ago. It allowed you to download Google Earth maps at high irresolution. The main thing you need to do is have a fast internet connection and down as much area as go can as the maps are yours for good when the subscription expires.

Simon a thing to keep in mind is, will you be able use your foot on it in hard ground.

Great collection. I am near the end of Digitizing all my photos at the moment. This one was taken 20 years ago near where the last Thylacien (Tasmanian Tiger) were found. As it is remote there was less than 15 visitor in the log book in the previous 3 years, if this was not the case I am sure the relics would walk.

I really like the structure of that piece.

If you wanted to do what you say find out the mining regulations and the cost involved you might be surprised in the cost to follow their requirements.

While detecting in West Australia for gold I found this trap under some cap rock it was deep and I had to uses a pick for over an hour to break through the rock thinking it was a million dollar nugget. A goanna had tunnelled many feet under the cap rock. He must off caught him self in a dingo trap and dragged it back to his lair and died.
By the way that not me its a friend who was a full time prospector.

Nice finds and no digging tools 😁

I like that method of getting the right pressure on the bandage. It is easy to cutoff all the blood to a limb when you are in a panic from a snake strike.

I once found a detector out in the gold fields, it was a Garrett. It was wrapped around a tree in frustration I think. Your video clip reminded me of it. Thank for the memory.

" My very first target that I dug was a full British Crown, I believe a 1937 George VI. Not that old but a large coin and 50% silver. "
The Aust. 1937 Crown is 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper. The Aust 1937 Penny would be the find of the century

Likewise I hate the plastic taste you get from a lot of water systems. I ended up using COKE (coca-cola) plastic bottles and they come in variable sizes.

New to the game. I went along with a buddy the other day and had the time of my life. Any advice for the new guy?
All of what has been said above. For starters, have a look at the size of most of your Buddy gold Have a few similar size nuggets (or lead) at different depths in your gold area and take note up the signal volume and width, so you know what you are after.

Here is an old post by Jim on another forum that might be of interest.

Great post. It also shows why multi frequency detectors are important for discriminating targets.

Gold's melting point is at about 1,943 degrees Fahrenheit (1064 °C) The eutectic point varies with alloys 18-karat gold has a melting point of 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit (926 degrees Celsius) and 14-karat gold has a melting point of 1,615 degrees Fahrenheit (879 degrees Celsius). I am sure those that have entered your draw, will be waiting with 🤞

We had 3 x 2MW 2 stroke Diesel Generators for emergency backup power in case of System Black so we could get the power back on in the power station. Guess what happen during a black out. One time the starting air supply failed, and portable diesel air compressor had to found. Another time the DC backup lighting failed and I had to start the first one with a touch. We had looked at a 25 MW diesel generator but ended getting a 50 MW Gas Turbine instead when our supply demand increased . By the way this was way back in 1973 - 79. Things sure have got bigger these days.

That's still pretty decent, there would be nothing stopping me detecting schools here, easy access but I can't imagine them being good places to detect, maybe I'm wrong.
I would give that some more though mate. The modern ones too much junk but old ones that have been closed since the sixties can be a real bonanza and have a high count of silver coins if not previously detected correctly. If the pennies and half pennies are gone (easy found), most of the early detector users just used high discrimination to avoid the junk and fortunately the good silver coins. As for gold coins the wife is one ahead of you, and it looks like you are one in front of me.😭 If I ever get time I will post some of my coins (Gold Field Tokens) that I have found over the years on the prospecting site.

UTM. A Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate comprises a zone number, a hemisphere (N/S), an easting and a northing. Eastings are referenced from the central meridian of each zone, & northings from the equator, both in metres. ... Eastings are measured from 500,000 metres west of the central meridian.
When I first started the mistake i made was not looking up the zone that I was targeting.
