  1. This..! Right there..! Is what it's all about..! Thanks for the share..! Swamp
  2. Welll, all his stuff is already in storage stateside.. And if he proves adept at pulling 'em like that at depth I suppose y'all could "hire" him so he can prove employment, although with his skill set he could probably walk in anywhere and get hired on the spot.. Wait a minute -- are y'all sure ya want to do this..? Croc Paul..?? Swamp
  3. Not bad for a couple hours in a target-poor environment.. Swamp
  4. Hope the reverse is decent on that 1913-D too, strick.. Train depot yes..! I'd definitely put some time in around that.. Swamp
  5. Seriously.. After having shot fantastic vid in some of the most remote, dangerous and beautiful spots left on this planet it isn't until after saying the vids will be curtailed due to the ongoing hassle of messing with the cams and amount of time it takes away from actual prospecting that y'all get hurt in the relative safety of civilization while wrangling crossword puzzles or playing no-contact nerf ball.. It seems sooo not right is all.. Maybe you're supposed to keep on shootin' vid out there..? I dunno.. Just sayin'.. Swamp
  6. My favorite reply is hopefully being able to point toward a dad who's helping his two kids who're busily digging out a sub-basement n saying "go ask him.." If one of those isn't right there handy the answer is always "absolutely..!" The big tweak with this one is my holes get filled in; their holes get fallen into.. Beaches can be dangerous places, especially on moonless nights.. Swamp
  7. What Deft Tones said, with the exception I'll go stronger on any possible downside by saying 'it shouldn't' instead of 'probably will not'.. ( Nickels are a copper-nickel mix of .750 copper & .250 nickel and have remained as such since first minted in 1866.. This is the same mixture / ratio modern day "silver" clad uses over a solid copper core.. ) The main reason I don't know for sure is because one of my side things is "copper" pennies, wheats & memorials 1909 - 1982.. I chase errors: RPMs (repunched mint marks,) doubled dies, off-center strikes, die cracks, etc., etc.. I normally buy bags of loose cents and boxes of rolled cents for this, but have had one nice out-of-the-ground find.. For the most part coins are just other things found while hunting jewelry.. Consequently the only coins I've ever run through olive oil are pennies from this timeframe.. The thought of running anything other than these never even really crossed my mind until a couple months ago.. So right now I have a couple of beach quarters, a brownie & a greenie, about six weeks in -- just to see what happens.. From the looks of them so far it appears they'll be in the soak at least six months.. Will keep y'all posted.. I don't know why, but to me at least long-time beach quarters always seem to end up so much more gnarly than beach dimes and nickels.. Since modern day silver clad and nickels are all of the same composition though, I was figuring how one reacts so will the others.. Now that this thread has come along though I should probably get dimes & nickels going.. Should get inland finds going too.. Here's hoping for your 1867 w/rays.. It's a decent enough $$s item even in rough shape, if your intent is to cut it loose, that is.. Swamp
  8. ...and onward with the experiment we go.. Ok Steve: I'm not a FazeBook member.. My main browser is Chrome.. So I guess a couple things to find out is what browser was Monte using to be able to view the vid as a non-member and what restrictions in which browser did Glenn in CO un-check in order to be able to view, along with is he or is he not a member..? FaceBook can be quirky to non-members.. Sometimes I can view vids there if I come in via a Google link.. Sometimes coming in the same way it'll navigate to the vid / info but then block viewability with its grayed-out 'join now or else' overlay screen.. Sometimes it'll let ya see other / more stuff on that member's page and sometimes it won't.. The one thing it won't allow at all ever is navigation away from the usersite by which you entered.. That's what I have for you for now.. Swamp
  9. LOL & my bad.. I should have said "...up to 6 months & longer.." Depends on what the encrusting agent / mineral(s) is/are and whether it's attacking the object / coin or growing outward upon itself.. Sometimes both happen concurrently.. Also, most concretions don't attack and typically will free up; those objects tend to get damaged when folks try to remove it too quickly.. Once you're past the "standard" non-abrasive cleaning methods and are in the oil trying to save as much collector / numismatic value as possible it just isn't going to be an overnight thing is all.. Both concretions and encrustations will generally slowly dissolve / fall away in the olive oil.. In the case of encrustrations though, one can only hope it's growing upon itself rather than attacking the underlying substance.. Staining is another matter entirely, and I've never seen true staining of metals non-invasively removed.. Swamp
  10. Nice find, Deft.. Just makin' sure oil = olive oil.. Also note a soak can take 6 months & longer.. Swamp
  11. Ditto on the Hot Wheels strick, and that's still after giving 4 out of 5 of 'em back to kids before leaving wherever I am -- which in my case is usually a beach.. At least y'all are getting out.. Been 30 days today for me.. Talk about jonesin'..?! Found out May 29 I needed eye procedures done like yesterday.. Had 'em (which may still require further treatment but won't know for another couple weeks yet,) and right as I'm being cleared to resume normal activity I get hit with a bronchial infection -- which pretty much the only place that could have come from is the hospital's out-patient surgery area, since basically that's the only place I'd been.. Just finished those ABs so can now get back into the sun, but need to re-build the ol' base tan first to go longer than 90 min + - .. Sooo, my count for June = 0, which to me means you had a great month, Deft.. Some times it's simply about perspective n has nothing to do with what one did or didn't get.. Will gladly trade you month's... Swamp
  12. I can't say it any better than JW.. Hope you heal all proper.. Swamp
  13. Aren't we all.. Ok then.. Welll, this would require the better part of a book chapter to answer properly, so I'll leave that for Steve.. Actually, he probably has already written about it somewhere in here; and if not he, others have in their writings.. Here's where I'm really trying to go with this though: Before you go throwing $$s at any sort of other detector is you do have a DFX, which is a durn fine beach machine.. IMHO you should be getting an easy 10" and better from it, especially in the damp-to-wet sand.. If it isn't getting that depth I suggest breaking out the manual (only because of all the variables; if you have them memorized I want the name of the memory course you took, lol) and do some tweaking around its suggested settings for location type.. Another way to check for depth performance on the stretch of beach you're on is take a beer can and bury it 16" - 18" in trodden sand.. It should come screaming back to your wand-over.. If it doesn't that'll tell you some tweaking is in order too.. Believe me, I understand the frustration.. The beaches have their own sort of EMI.. Detecting depth can change a goodly amount between tide swings.. A coin line that's shouting at ya one day ya can't even find the next.. Swamp EDIT: That can depth is for DFX & similar..
  14. Matthew was a very finicky hurricane.. Sat Bch / IHB / Melb Bch all had erosion with breaching in places, while CCB / CC and Wabasso down on the Treasure Coast had sand deposited on shore with a tide surge that only made it halfway to the dunes' toe.. Drive up the coast to N of Daytona Bch and by the time one gets to Flagler Bch is where it all got stripped bare with the coast road being undermined as well.. Weird.. The renourishment is kind of a double-edged sword, because 20 - 30 years ago it wasn't so much a renourshment project as it was an absolutely necessary beach rebuilding project.. As examples: In Cape Canaveral there once was a house on the SE corner of Washington Ave ( N of Adams Ave / S of Cherie Down Park & E of Presidential Ct ) that'd been built closer to the shore than the others.. In the late '80s - early '90s we got to watch the Atlantic Ocean undermine and partially collapse it before 'they' finally came along and tore it down before it went afloat.. During the same timeframe, in Cocoa Beach just S of Minutemen Cswy there were properties missing half or more of their backyards, in one case a mere 8' from the back porch.. Some folks had already hauled in coquina for shoring and were building their own jetties.. It wasn't until after threats of fist-a-cuffs and weaponry began circulating that the city / county / state / Fed / whomever finally came to a decision on how to get this thing done.. I don't think they chose the best way; they chose the quickest way, mainly because by that point there was no other way, and for whatever reasons ( possible hint = continual $$s exchanges? ) continue to use dredging / hauling and grading as the renourishment method.. About four winters ago they dug up the beach @ Ocean Park in Melb Bch to bury those large perf pipes that enhance ocean flowback to help inhibit erosion too.. I'm not up on all this stuff these days.. Bought a place inland in '92 to get out from under that rent thumb and one of the trade-offs is not seeing or hearing about certain dealings on a daily basis anymore.. Anyhow, that's the how & when of the renourishment programs' beginnings in this part of Brevard -- in many areas the beach for all intent & purpose was gone.. Swamp EDIT: One can easily see the Cape Canaveral location in Google Earth.. And I do remember photos of the Washington Ave house and the Cocoa Beach backyards / dune cliffs being in the paper.. I imagine a search of their archives (if possible) will turn them up if one is curious..
  15. I'm sorry, but you cannot have my Infinium.. Incidentally, even when wearing the control box, if you're using the Power-coil the Infinium will get heavy on ya after a couple hours un-aided swinging.. On the plus side it is extremely well balanced.. Swamp
  16. I hope you do well.. Cape Canaveral & Cocoa Beach have been extremely unproductive this year so far.. Swamp
  17. Thanks for posting, Mitchel.. Been a while since I watched it.. Remedial review of sorts.. Swamp
  18. As Steve noted: You're not alone.. I don't comment much but have to agree with worst start to a year ever here too (beach exclusively so far..) Zero gold and only one silver, not a ring either.. Even junk bling and (recent drop) coins are down.. On my way to beach now cos low tide soon, but kinda wonder why even bother..? If anything should be heading up filthylucre's way.. Spring break is a completely different animal here on Cocoa Beach than it is @ Daytona Beach.. Swamp
  19. Been to Allatoona Lake area I take it..? Blankets Creek, Sixes Creek n those..? Yeah it's lovely there when it's 97 & 97, kinda like digging in a steam bath... Swamp
  20. Thanks for posting the eye candy & welcome to the forum.. Swamp
  21. Does this mean Handigard is gonna need to start wearin' makeup n let his hair grow out..? Swamp
