Mitchel, I'm sure there were small discoveries in California before James Marshals, but this certainly was  not the spark that started the 49ers rush and mass migration of travelers, as this article tries to imply. Ive read many  journals from the early 49ers and never a mention of any Lopez or Placrita canyon.

I saw those clip ons, and they don't fix the problem of the rotating coil. It only keeps the knuckle end from wearing, but doesn' lock your coil in place. I hate to constantly adjust the coil back into proper position, so I came up with this design.  

Wes, The knuckle wears and the coil tends to rotate out of position.  The cap helps to minimize that.

Matt, I don' have any right now, but hope to make some more.  I used up all the extras I had.

I might make some more in the near future if I get the extra time. I'll post here if I do. Thanks

Id say probably you will be happier if you stick to sluicing/panning,  in rivers. You will end up aggravating yourself unless you are on bare bedrock. Even then, rivers tend to be trash dumps and not the most enjoyable places to detect. Most guys that successfully nugget detect are in the  dry diggings, small creeks, below pocket mines, and within reach of bedrock.  There are exceptions though, and sometimes the gold is in the float or false bedrock. 

The main issue was  the first release  cost $10K!

Definitely in need of a smaller coil for creek and bedrock hunting. Its no fun having to pack in 2 detectors.

Thats tough getting written permission these days. I know of a few big mining corporations that have no problem with casual use detecting on their land. Also a big timber co that I talked to, but for liability reasons they shy away from anything in writing in case someone is  injured.

Im pretty sure that the odd sections there are BLM surface managed, but mineral rights are held by Newmont.

Otherwise it would be solid claims on those sections.

A few  years ago a guy had a lease from them and dug up a bunch of the washes.

I noticed in the vid that they have the boxes already made. That seems like a good indicator that the release may not be too far off, unless those were just one-offs for the show.

My sdc2300 is a simple machine too... and it loads my poke up!

So if a Maintenance fee is paid to  BLM, rather than the assessment work, nothing is required to be filed annual at the county level?

Guys, what is the validity of claims not filed annually at the county level? I have seen a few claims that are current at BLM, but the owners do not file  notices of intent to hold, or affidavits of assessment work at their local county recorders.  My understanding was the county level recording is just as important as the BLM filing, yet some people seem to only file their annual renewals with BLM. What gives?

Fred, not sure if re gluing effects performance, but if you get a new one,  wrap  with a bit of bubble wrap and tape to protect it, and you can continue to happily  toss it on the ground. It works for me.

I was kinda disappointed  with the locate patch filter on our local California Motherload red mineralized clay schist. In the past, the 7k was only operable in difficult ground setting, as every other swing results in a false signal using Normal ground setting.  Locate patch did not kill the false signals in the least, although at another patch with groaning ground,  the noise  was smoothed out nicely.

Id set your volume limit to something like 6,  7 or 8, unless you like  getting your ears blown out on overload signals.

Then adjust your main volume so you can hear your threshold well. 10-15 works for me

You can use a screensaver sheet on the screen, under the cover. Also put blue masking tape wherever its chafing. That should protect it for resale later.
