  1. I love what you call fine stuff......LOL this is the fine stuff I have to deal with .....
  2. A lifetime of lifting wrong..... You are supposed to bend your knees and make the lift as straight as possible... But when we were young and invincible we all just bent over and gave a heave.... As to the weight thing in water it's all about specific gravity and buoyancy. The weight of the object is displaced by the weight of the volume of water it displaces .... In other words if an object(rock) weighs 10 lbs. and it displaces 3 lbs. of water the effect of buoyancy will make the rock weight 7 lbs. in effect. Or if you feel like getting some sleep you can read this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buoyancy
  3. Hadn't really given this a lot of thought .... I have always run my gains anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 ..... Just seemed natural I guess... Also I am in western Oregon where the soil is pretty highly mineralized. I am of the school that More is not always better.
  4. My first detector was a White's Alaskan TR chest mount... It came with 2 coils... I forget what I paid for it .. https://www.whiteselectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/gm_alaskan_disc._instruction_manual.pdf?lang=us
  5. Now if the people who buy that detector had some Proper training in regards to detector and target recovery etiquette .......
  6. Great post deft.... Your a lot more systematic than I am.... I look things over and get a kind of gut feeling for the area and go from there...
  7. This whole discussion on masking reminds me of a silver quarter I found in an old school playground a few years back. I was running my V3i in the area of the swing sets and off to one side I get a banging quarter hit... Nice high VDI and a good solid signal... so I dug the target and out pops a flattened bent up aluminum soft drink can... And a silver quarter in the plug as well... Now which did I detect? I really didn't care because I found the silver, but that bent up aluminum can read very similar to the quarter... Did the V unmask the quarter? I doubt it.... I was just fortunate enough they both came out of the hole at the same time... When I am in a new area that I deem has potential I dig a lot and ALWAYS recheck my holes so my unmasking is more technique than electronic. Just my thoughts and experiences in the matter.
  8. You might check out White's. The Beach hunter 300 is a dual freq. 3 & 15 kHz VLF good to 25 feet... Or the White's Surf Master dual field PI detector. It is a pulse induction machine good to 100 feet.
  9. Pretty soon we will be so weak and feeble even though we can swing a detector, because they will only weigh ounces......... we won't be able to dig the target............
  10. I don't know anything about the Nokta either..... I'm a White's guy. You could sell it and put that coin away till the equinox has had some time to prove itself..... just another option....
  11. The equinox isn't even out yet..... The release date isn't even certain.... There is nothing to compare it to realistically... Nothing but marketing hype and speculation. And no.... I don't think the vids that are currently out about it can be relied on to make a sound purchase decision..... give it 6 months to a year in the hands of those too eager to wait and let them get the bugs out of it... Because you know there will be bugs... Look at the gold monster.... greatest thing since sliced bread and now issues are arising. But hey.... It's your money and frustrations when things don't work as advertised. JMHO..
  12. The V3i already has a fully adjustable correlate mode unlike the lite version in the V3.......
  13. Did anybody find anything? The short vid I saw was pretty demoralizing......
  14. I think the red is probably not going to be the color released .... It does speak prototype though.
  15. When you really think about it it has taken the competition over ten years to come up with anything that may or may not rival the V3i.... Is the V3i perfect? no ... There are a few things that could be improved on , such as the recovery speed and GB tracking speed but if you know how to use a V3i it will really dance.... And that is I think the biggest problem, not many people really know how to use the V3i with all the adjustments available people just overload and try to make too many adjustments without understanding how each affects the balance and soon everything is conflicting. Am I a V guru?..... Far from it but I have the understanding I need to make the machine do what I want it to do. So..... We wait and see but in the meantime, I am more than happy with my V3i.
  16. Hmmmm.... Seems everything MineLab is doing now is obsoleting everything...... I guess I will just have to remain obsolete.....
  17. I waited 4 years before I bought my V3i... Just kept using my MXT till then.... Before that I used my Eagle Spectrum and before my Eagle I had a 6000 series 2.
