  1. With the versatility of the V3i I was wondering what settings I would have to make to set it up to emulate the MX Sport....

There are settings for the V3i to emulate the MXT, I have used them out of curiosity and found they work pretty well but my mode of choice is still stereo mixed mode.

Found out one thing, every coil I got with the v3i are not V rated. All failed the test.

Now I must admit the main reason I wanted the V3i was to use the high frequency to jewelry hunt.  Now I'll have to find a v rated coil and maybe sell the others.

Ever learning and never learning any lessons.

How high can you get the RX gain before you start getting instability?

Chances are those coils will still work just fine and the likelyhood that you would be running at 15 is slim.... Running that hot will usually cause all kinds of instability in mineralized ground.

The V3i does not require you to max all the settings to get best performance......

Remember........ Mo hotter is NOT always mo better.

  3. While air tests are kinda fun and they help you familiarize yourself with the machine settings the chances of you finding a dime or nickel at 11" in the ground are slim ..... So many variables and depending on the level of mineralization in your particular ground will have the biggest effect on overall performance....

Concentrate on getting a good ground balance for best performance...

  4. One of the things I have noticed is that most of the parks we goto the tot lot's are pretty barren. We still find a little but they are pretty clean.

Now when I goto a park I always hit the tot lot first ... Just a quick hit and run type thing.

Then I get into the grass. This is where I find a surprising amount of things.... I think people have gotten lazy, because of the amount of finds I make in the grass near the tot lot.

Also my recovery methods show very minor evidence if any of my ever being there.

  5. I agree with you Steve.

I hunt just to get out and get a little exercise these days and I still find a really good target on occasion.

I have been fortunate that all of my machines have paid for themselves +.

Also the area I currently live in is pretty bleak. I have to drive at least an hour to get to anyplace that may have something worth hunting.

But I do still enjoy the hunt and my V3i is always a pleasure to use as well as learning more about it.
