  1. Those are some great finds.

Do you have a caliper to measure the diameter of the bullet? That will give you the caliber.

That and a scale can give you what you need to know, with the weight info it may even narrow it down to the rifle type.

Bullet weight is measured in grains by the way.

In general getting out and using what you have makes more sense than trading detectors.

    yup..... Remember this one?.... https://stoutstandards.wordpress.com/2017/04/13/is-it-the-detector-or-is-it-you/

At this point I have probably got the last detectors I will buy ..... I have an Eagle Spectrum that I bought new in 93 ... I have an MXT and a V3i.

I have been thinking about selling my Eagle Spectrum though I have 4 coils with it one of which is an 18" Big Foot.......

  3. Another issue with the constant bombardment of EMI is regarding the health risks associated with it.

We live in a society that is awash in EMI some benign and some potentially hazardous. As to the level of risk and exactly what levels produce these risks I don't know but it is something to think about. Or not...... We're all gonna end up worm food at some point.

Remember the old saying..... Eat right, stay fit.... Die anyway.

    Have a great day

  4. The V3i can set an individual tone to each VDI # or to blocks of numbers.

I open the discrimination and accept everything on the V3i.

I use the tones to set my discrimination, in other words I give the range I want to discriminate a 0 tone. I can do the same with the visual discrimination as well.

There are advantages to this in that the machine doesn't have to do as much recalculating a target when it simply accepts it compared to the algos of discriminating it out.

Here is a post by Rob on findmall ... Zero tones for discrimination.

Amazons Best Selling Metal Detectors are models that sell for under $100. The first model I own in the list comes in at #50, the CTX 3030.

That in itself is interesting however. Not one so-called "flagship detector" by any other manufacturer even makes it into the Amazon top 100.

I like that.... They buy the cheap detectors and get soon discouraged....

However the only problem I see is this.... These rank amateurs are lacking the digging ethics we have adopted and are probably leaveing unfilled holes.....

Except you have not really covered the acre. So let's go 50% overlap of the swings to get decent coverage at depth. 12.1 hours. And hit it from at least two different directions 24.2 hours.

And you still missed a nugget or two!

More food for thought. A one acre park in a city, detected for the last forty year by thousands of people with different detectors still gives up a silver coin now and then.

One the flip side the first people on the first passes really do get the bulk of the targets. The easy stuff depletes fast. Then we spend decades eking out leftovers.

I always enjoy following the guy on the left in you illustration...... The golfer......
