  1. I personally am quite happy with my V3i. I know a lot of you don't have a high opinion of it but mine has paid for itself several times over with the coins and jewelry I have found with it.... And I don't get out all that much.. and certainly not as much as I would like to, but location and the fact I do still have to work for a living kinda puts a damper on my free time.

I have used MMS (mixed mode stereo) now for a while and have gotten to really like that program plus I have added my own tweek's to the program to suit me...

As to the foreign machines entering the market...... well I'm kind of a keep my money at home as much as I can kind of guy..... nuff said.

Is the V3i perfect?... Nope... But I am pretty comfortable with it now and I think I am getting as good a performance as I need with more if I need it.

I also make it a point to go to White's Sweet Home headquarters occasionally so I can snoop..... I think they are a great company and I think they have some stuff on the horizon that will impress.

I would love to be able to get out and nugget hunt but there just isn't anyplace I am aware of near me.

So I do what I can when I can and that is coin and jewelry in schools, parks, and an occasional private area...

I do envy you guys and gals that are near the nugget fields.

    Happy hunting to all.

  2. The little woman and I decided to get n a little detecting since it was such a nice day ....

So, we loaded up the rig and hit the road... found a little park that yeilded up some clad...

No silver or jewelry but it was a great day anyway. The little rectangular pendant had me going there for a second because I have found 14k gold that had the same coppery look.... But it was just copper.

Her finds on the left, mine on the right.

She has adopted my MXT and I use the V3i.

and yes there was trash too. I think I dug 3 pull tabs and a little foil. The wife did a few more pull tabs.

  3. Keep the lead and any other metals you might find, separate them and sell them later to a scraper.... helps add a little to the purse for detecting....

Oh.... all you got to do is be there and keep that coil swinging.... The gold will come... and silver too.

Good luck John,  I have really enjoyed reading this thread.

    Thank you Swegin.

I don't get out as much as I'd like and I just go to a beach that is about 15 minutes from home....

There are some beaches that are better producers but it would be better to have a whole weekend to work them and since they are a few hours away it just isn't practical at this time.

Have  been looking for a good little camper van to make that more of a possibility though.

  5. I have a friend coming to visit this weekend and rain or shine he wants to hit the beach.....

So hopefully I will have some new stuff for ya.

Here's a little from my last cleanup.... all 3.8 grains of it.....

All the magnetics have been pulled and the dark material that is left in it is non magnetic. Not entirely sue what it is but one thought is that it is platinum since we do have it here on our beaches... time will tell and maybe someone with more knowledge will be able to identify it... All I know is it is very heavy and does not want to separate from the gold in a pan.

  6. Thank you for the kind words.

Oregon beach rules prohibit the use of ANY power equipment on the beach for mining. They also have maximum limits on the amount of material you can move.

If you would like more info or you are in the area sometime let me know and perhaps we can set up a time and you can get a better Idea of what is involved as well as all the rules, which aren't really that many........

  7. Like Steve I tend to do my detecting during off hours and in out of the way places and inclement weather...

I rarely come across other detectorists and when I do we have an amicable conversation regarding edicate. When i come across holes or trash I repair the situation and wish I could cross paths with the lazy SOB........

I'll let your imagination go from there.
