  1. Okara, yep. gonna take me a looooong time to search this place. I am not certain why this spot has been so good, but going to crush this front field all i can before its next planting in spring. Here is a picture of the property. The black line is about 30 of the 40 acres. the small orange circle is where i got the SLQ in front of the barn, and the larger orange is where all the rest of this stuff has come from.
  2. SchoolofhardNox, can you explain more the "Woods" part of your description? THanks
  3. Got out again yesterday morning. Was 22 when I started, but cleared 32 when I finished up, so I've dug in worse. Got a bunch more of those hexagon tokens, and 5 more coins. 2 I believe are 1/2 pennies again, but dug 3 smaller coins that I couldn't identify until I got home. Definitely never dug one of these before. Only one has enough metal left to really ID. Looks like Irish half penny to me, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Of course the most dmg is right at the date...
  4. F350, I will try to find some markings. I hadnt seen any at first glance, though. really look like them, though. thank you for the possible match
  5. I got onto a new permission a couple times over the last 3 weeks. It is an early 1700s farm, with 40 acres of fields and woods. I have basically just been kind of surveying the various areas, but starting tomorrow I will be hitting one field area thoroughly for a couple hours. So far, the best find has been a 1917 type 1 standing liberty quarter. Also an old brass ring with the 18k marking inside. Can anyone identify the hexagon shaped items? They ring up as nickels on the Nox, and leech the same in clay soil. For that matter, any ideas on any of the round brass items or the wheel lookin thing? The coins shown are not wanting to give up dates. One I think is a george II half penny. The other is half a gram lighter and slightly smaller. Happy hunting!.
  6. That was really helpful. Do you by any chance have a picture of the buckle prior to the work you did on it?
  7. pretty awesome condition for a shoe buckle. nice save!
  8. Rick, my thoughts exactly, once I realized it was a U.S. coin.
  9. I snuck out for an hour between thunder storms to the old hotel site I have posted finds from a couple times....did not disappoint. I can say I have never dug a quarter cent before, but here is my first cut half cent, 1835. Right next to the old pump well, like 6 inches from the platform and only a couple inches down. Most of the old coins have been 8 to 10 inches deep. Probably the dirt there has been dug up a couple times in the past years for maintenance, etc.
  10. Jeff, My guess is a powder measurer for filling cartridges
  11. i know I am probably too late as it sounds like you have already purchased, BUT if you havent yet.... I really really really recommend the Fisher F-Pulse pinpointer. I have had the black Garrett and the carrott. both worked well for me, but in mineralized soil, the Fpulse is way better because it can be tuned to the soil. It solves the situation when the carrot starts chirping/buzzing as soon as it is near the ground, and you have to try to discern what is a target and what is the ground. fpulse, you just hit the button once more quick while touching the ground, and it now ignores the ground and you can much more easily find your target. just like the carrot, you can turn sound off and use vibrate.
  12. Robert, That is almost too many nice finds at once...might get you deleted 🙂 j/k awesome bit of digging, there.
  13. F350, I have both stock 11 and the 6inch. Only ever used the 6inch once though. Can't make myself use it even though it is a very trashy site. I don't "know" but feel like I wouldn't get the deep ones that whisper. Maybe next time I will try the 6, now that I have run over the same area 2x with 11. Yiu might have to talk me into it, though
  14. The ground is supposed to be frozen solid in February here in PA...weird year. it has instead been frozen for a couple weeks, then thawed, then repeat...like I said....weird. But hey, if it isnt frozen, time to Dig! I had off for President's day, so dragged Steve (Ozzy) out to an abandoned farm we have both hit before. I don't even think Steve had started detecting yet. I swung my coil for maybe 30 seconds....had a nice soft high tone, and dug an 1857 large cent. The ground was very saturated, and my experience with the Nox is fringe objects get amplified significantly. The ID goes out the window though, because things almost always ID considerably higher. I would have guessed silver half on the large cent and it was pinpointer depth. As a reinforcement to that thought, a bit later I got IDs of 38, 39, 37, etc. I pinpointed all around, and could find plenty of iron near it, but nothing seemed to be interfering...again, at pinpointer depth and maybe a hair more out comes this rocking Barber quarter. ended up with wheats of 1919, 1917, and 1914 as well as a 61 rosie. Most in spots I know both Steve and I have been over before, but I think the moisture had a lot to do with hearing them. The hole where I dug the Barber started filling in with water shortly after pulling it out.
  15. My 11 year old daughter loves going through my finds pouch with me, identifying and helping clean stuff up. Two years ago she gave me a t-shirt that said "can I metal detect in your yard", because she said I needed help getting more permissions. I also think she loves it when my wife is embarrassed when I wear it in public. Anyway, a few weeks before Christmas, she was nosier than usual, making me show her my various "junk finds" boxes, asking if this is valuable, is that valuable, what is lead, what was I most likely to actually throw away if I needed space, etc. Apparently she called grandpa, had him make her a wood display frame, stole a bunch of the "junk" and did an awesome job epoxying it under his watch. She was hoping to re-create the t-shirt but ran out of room! I know she's sneaky but going to have to pay more attention..I had no clue all the pilfering that went on. Anyway, I thought I would brag on her design skills, and show off my present. Never throw away the goods 😀
  16. it is heavy...a cast item, i think with a most gone plating, that shows a bit on the back. I also think it is not military, and more along the lines of patriotic.
  17. Found this in a vacant lot where the coins have been mostly 1910 to 1965 or so. Any ideas? Seems like a pin, or what looks like 2 broken pin anchors. Feels like cast; it's heavy. Merc for size
  18. yes sir, Strick, but I am almost 2 hrs from the beach...not going to be going there much. I do want to find some swimming holes once I get the nox back from repairs though.
  19. Most years, my family heads to Ocean City, NJ for a week in the summer. Due to father/husband duties, i usually get 2 or 3 mornings from about 5 to 7 am to try to morph from a dirt hunter to a beach hunter. I have had great success at finding modern coins and lead fishing weights, and the occasional junk jewelry item, but never had any luck in getting real gold. I have never gone into the water much, as most of my detectors haven't been waterproof. I took the equinox this year, and was determined to hunt in the shallows in front of the break line. First hurdle appeared before i even went out. I did a reset so that I could sync the wireless phones to it. I never use them for dirt, but i didnt want to damage my good headphones.....sigh...the button on the Equinox to pair them doesnt work. I almost always have had the little wireless box paired to it with my good headphones for dirt hunting. The button has always given me trouble from date of purchase, but usually 2 or 3 times, and it would work. I tried for an hour. no dice. So i hooked up the wireless phones with the 1/8th inch cable. I guess i will contact Minelab and see if they can repair the button now that I am home. Second hurdle...the screws for the handle for my scoop went missing, so it would just be harder to use...oh well. I only got out twice this trip. First time out, it was only 3 hours to high tide. I went as close to the breaks as i could, and it is a real challenge to me to swing the coil in that swirling water. I stuck to good signals only. I hunted for about 2.5 hours, and managed a stainless anxiety ring, and two sterling earrings, so not too bad. Second trip, I took my son along to help handle the scoop, and we got out right at low tide at 6am. Targets were extremely sparse, and the first was a junk mood ring. The second was really jumpy, but kept going high, and pulled the little portion of silver links..i think it is part of an earring. the third was the little silver heart earring. I was thinking we needed to push a little further out into the rougher water, so we really had to fight the waves a bit. It was only about 50 feet at this depth, and what a sweet signal. I found out that i really stink using a scoop right there. Took me at least 10 tries to get it in the scoop. I told Eli to just carry it up to the wet sand slope and we would figure out what it was up there. Really nice 22k men's wedding band. It's been a week now and i still smile. I now feel way better about all you folks who dig gold on the beach all the time, and am not quite so jealous 🙂 We searched for just a couple more minutes, but nothing else showed up, so we ended on a pretty high note. If anyone recognizes the makers mark that would be awesome, but I will start looking through marks soon. Happy hunting, All
  20. Valens, it is my Nox 800, 11inch coil.. I run it almost always in F1, sens 23. I used to run it almost exclusively in multi tones, but more and more in town have switched to single freq 20 due to emi from power lines.
