yes I know him. Ā I may see if he would let me borrow it lol. Ā As far as I know so far he has not found any gold with it in Va but COVID killed his year since he is a medical professional. Ā
Yeah this guy
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXs3GbinntAgeEV1YLHi9eQ
took me a minute to find him

Gerry I remember a guy in our class that had bought a GPZ from you and was from VA.Ā Maybe PG-Prospecting might want to look him up to try out that Z!Ā If I remember right he had a YouTube channel digging gold in VA.

Firstly settings please, but I think I can guess at it a bit.
Sorry, should have thought of that.Ā My setting are very similar to Lunk's (because he was the one I learned fromĀ š) and I have not really strayed to much from them for the last few years.Ā Although this year I am going to make a point to change it upĀ in some old "patches" and see what comes about.
Gold Mode: High Yield (mostly);Ā Ground Type: Normal;Ā Sensitivity: 10-15;Ā Ground Balance Mode: Semi; Ground Smoothing: Locate Patch; Volume: 15; Volume Limit: 3; Audio Smoothing: High; Threshold Level: 27; Threshold Pitch: 25.
49 minutes ago, Jonathan Porter said:Iām not sure if the sluggish button presses are linked as I find the GPZ frustrating slow at the best of times (press, waiting waiting waiting.....change š), the sluggish button behavior can also be corrected by firming up the Mylar power strip.
What you described is exactly what happens to me, sluggish or lagging button behavior.Ā I used to think I was not pushing the button fully, then I realized that I push the button and wait......it changes or selects.Ā After being able to fly through buttons like on an iPhone, this is so........slow........š“Ā Ā My Z is no longer under warranty so I could open it up and take a look at the Mylar power strip, but that sure does make me nervous.Ā I think first I will try Rick's suggestion of turning off the GPS and see if it speeds things up.Ā Have you ever tried that or anyone for that matter?Ā More people who give it a go, the more we might know.
53 minutes ago, Jonathan Porter said:The otherĀ thing that can send the GPZ into conniptions is having the WM12 turned on before the detector boots up, it triesĀ to connectĀ up the audio before all the parameters are fully loaded and can throw the detector into a looping power cycle. Best work flow is to turn on the detector and wait till the battery icon appears then turn on the WM12, follow this procedure and all is well.
I will give this a try too.Ā I always have done it completely backwards than you described.Ā I always liked hearing that Minelab tune intro.Ā Kind of gets you all excited to metal detectš.Ā But I will do your way, especially since you have had much better results.
Thank you for the help JP!

I think many of you 60+ Guys willĀ get the harness. Just askĀ CTX hunters - and youāll probably be using bigger coils than itās 11ā. Ā Just aĀ big coil on a stick is still mass you have to move repetitively and itās going to get your elbow or forearm.
Or at least a stick to attach to it.Ā That's all I use with my Z in the woods.Ā Flat desert areas though the harness comes on.

After reading the thread from 2015 it appears that this is an ongoing problem thatĀ has never been resolved. Ā Iām hoping that some people out there might have some answers and Iām really anxious now to try RickāsĀ fix ofĀ just turning the GPS off (although really more of a workaround than actual fix, since now canāt use the GPS, but still appreciative Rick!). Ā Anybody else out there have theĀ same problemsĀ that might want to try this? Ā Iām currently in winter lockdown with 0 degree temps to give it a go yet. Ā If enough people have this problem, and might be able to give this work around a try,Ā I can put together a tally and maybe send something to MinelabĀ and ask them if theyāre ever going to resolve this problem thatās been going on. Worth a shot anyways. Ā I got alot of time at the moment š

Thanks Northeast, I'll give that thread a look too.Ā Sure is nerve racking to have that happen out in the middle of the field.Ā The first time it happened I thought for sure I was going to have to hike all the way back to the truck to get the back up.

Looks like itās going to be a few more weeks still. Looks like every week Minelab isĀ Ā going to be holding a contest to win some garb. Donāt forget to sign up if you want to winĀ a T-shirt and a hat. Maybe later on in the weeks theyāll actually give away an X6! š¤š»š¤š»ššš

Do you have the GPS turned on ? Having it on slows the whole process down, must be RAM hungry on the CPU ! I found the whole thing very slow when the GPS was running and ended up not using it at all because of the lag !
Cheers,
Rick
Yes i do! Ā Iāll have to give that a try I only use the GPS so I can tell what time it is in the field. Other than that I donāt use it at all,Ā but it is on. Ā Come to think about it when I remember the buttons being faster that was when the GPS was broken. Thanks Rick! Ā Ā Iāll give that a try but Iāll have to wait a few months until the snow is gone. Ā LOL

Thanks for that JP!šĀ Since day oneĀ with the detectorĀ I have noticed that my WM12 audio sometimes drops out randomly as well. I used to build PCs, so reseating the mylar cable should be easy enough and hopefully solve both issues.Ā š¤
I have had this problem recently except it happened when switching gold or ground modes. Ā I was switching back and forth to check target signals and lost all audio. Ā It has happened twice and both times i have had to power off the Z to get the sound back. š¤·āāļø
ĀI have also noticed that my buttonsĀ donāt react that fast. Ā I could fly through the buttons much easier if it would not take a full second or two to switch modes or select things. Ā Is this normal? Ā I have no one to compare this with. Ā I had my GPS fixed under warranty and askedĀ to have myĀ screen changed out since it was scratched,Ā in the process theyĀ replaced the front panel, I could have swore it worked faster before they put a new one in. Ā No warranty now.
Maybe a hard restart or factory reset is in order and reinstall the firmware? š¤·āāļø

When I was in Q meeting up with Lunk he put together a lunch date for us with Pieter! Ā It was so much fun to hear his stories and he allowed me to pick his brain some too! Ā It was a great experience and one that I will never forget. Ā I āanalyzed his maps in a different aspectā than how he drew them and shared with Lunk what I was seeing. Ā Unfortunately I never had the time to test my theories. Ā Lunk did you ever get a chance to check any out?

I think the pros will be buying this when it first comes out. Ā They will get it paid off right away. Ā The noobs and weekend warriors will buy tooĀ if just getting into the game, they wont make their money back in gold.Ā The weekend warriors like myself who already bought into the Z will wait and if reviews come back solid we will be buying the used gear for half from the noobs that gave up. š¤£. Thatās kind of what I saw with the Z. After the first few years with the Z there was so many used ones for sale and some really cheap. Usually came from people who bought it went metal detecting for like three days and decided it wasnāt for them. Ā Bonus for us! š¤£š¤£

I try to keep it simple when Iām camping too. Ā Everything is boiling water mixed in a bag LOL. andĀ Nescafe into a cup. Ā The kind of sucks but itās like roughing it. I figure when I get back to civilization thatās when I get myself a good Kona French pressed. Now if the wife comes with me camping then Iām like in luxury because she likes doing all that in field, evenĀ cleanup and everything else that comes with lux camp life. Ā š¤£š¤£
