Nice writeup, Dan, and welcome to the forum!  Unfortunately, between you and Brian (and Gerry from his trip to bring you guys your GPX6000's), the word about detectable gold in SD is now out.  Well, Brian had told us before but it's a lot easier to write off one person blowing smoke.

    Definitely take Gerry's class.

There is one thing from your post that confused me -- was it a typo?

The only thing I can figure is that one of you had a cellphone battery die.

There is no gold in SD, we do all our hunting in WY.

Yeah Dan killed it last weekend.  Deepest biggest gold yet I have seen yet with this machine!  Diet GPZ (or as Steve calls it GPZ Lite for you Euros) for sure in my book.  I really used to enjoy winning all the beer bets before Dan got a 6k.  Now he is taking my beer and my gold! 🤣  I keep telling him now that I should have never told you to get a quality detector, why the hell did your wife let you get one!!  🤣🤣🤣  Nah, Dan is great friend, detecting buddy and fellow researcher.  Good partner in crime for our gold fields.  Deserves the gold he is finding after for so long collecting dust.  And now an active DP community member to boot!  Now the next bet should be first one to find a 1+ ouncer gets a case!  Game on!

  2. This just started happening to me this morning, drop down ads.  I completely understand having ads on the forum as a way of income and I am not trying to say to remove advertising, but would it be possible to remove this “style” of advertising.  It makes navigating on the forum annoying and difficult because you alway have to navigate around it, at least on my iPad.  Would really appreciate just the old style, and yeah I have clicked on some ads 😊.67B03A67-2561-49B4-BC00-83A981E5163C.thumb.png.abe485bc65b31af9cc798941e78aa10d.png

  3. Geologically speaking we are over due for an ice age.  If you look at past cycles.  But the massive increase in the earth’s overall temperature (natural or man made) has probably put a pause or end to that cycle.   It is interesting how much the Earth’s temp has exponentially increased since the start of the industrial revolution.  Climate is changing, that is obvious over the past 45 years alone of my life.  Might change back, might not 🤷‍♂️.  Who cares, let the next gen fix it, that what the old gens taught me 🤣.

When i used to work in Papua New Guinea the local saying was "expect the unexpected" which i think applies to metal detecting - you continue to learn and be surprised.

Yesterday three of us decided to test the GPX6000 with 11 inch mono, 14 inch DD and 17 inch mono and GPZ7000 with 14 inch stock coil at a local test site that has targets in situ for a number of years.

We were particularly interested in the deepest target that was buried at 400mm (about 16 inches) representing a large deep nugget.

The 7000 could not detect it in difficult setting only in normal setting -  i was told by the owner of the 7000 that normal is not his preferred setting.

The 6000 could not detect this deep target  with the 11 inch and even the 17 inch (we tried all settings)   - but get this - the 14 inch DD with EMI cancel on could hear it as good as (if not better) than the 7000 in normal mode . We were not expecting this result.

We though about this for a moment and the only conclusion we could come to was that the high environmental EMI was affecting the performance of the other coils & favoured the DD coil.

Any other thoughts as to why we had this result?

Hey Vic (and G), I have a couple questions.  Vic, what was the target size?  Vic and G, do you think that because the DD should smooth out the threshold/EMI/ground that you were able to hear subtle repeatable targets or was the threshold still a little chattery but the target signals was obvious?

    Thanks!
