  1. zincoln, with all these great saves, i have to say you would have been an awesome hockey goalie if you had played ! Congrats on another awesome find. And with an unapproved detector. LOL. 👍
  2. LOL, swinging backwards? Too funny - or maybe even swinging at all. Don't know about that Gerry, it's kinda like making a fisherman use a ruler to measure the actual length of a fish before telling the guys about this huge fish he caught - How many times have i heard somebody or other bragging about how they know such and such a detector inside and out and yet they only have a handful of hours actually hunting with it. ? ? ? ? Am I the only one this happens to? And I'm looking forward to our Tuesday Manticore update. . . . . . . don't forget. Rich
  3. A total of 13 rings so far. 5 hunts. 3 of those are junkers. Five sterling, two Titanium and three tungsten carbide. 8 pairs of sunglasses (1 pair ray bans) , 1 samsung galaxy watch, 1 iPhone 13, lots of fishing lures and the companion lead sinkers. I thought I had a gold ring today, but alas, it was gold plated. The pain . . . . . lol. Had a good time hunting though. Cold. 41*. Water is getting "chilly". It's about time to start up the wood burning stove and the wintertime research for 2023. rich -
  4. Wow, I had no idea that Nancy Pelosi was originally from Australia. Who knew? 😉
  5. Ya, I saw that. On one of the YouTube videos with Mark Lawrie, bottlecaps were showing up below the "12 line" or whatever it will be called, rather than above as on the etrac. Just a little bit of a brain twister to make adjustments for. I'm Sure you remember when the etrac killed the S line of the explorer series. Kicking a hornets next with all of the explorer users. I'm under the impression that discrimination with the screen works differently as well. Did you catch that too? or am i mistaken?
  6. Argumentative ? Heck no. Not at all. My first glance at the M-core screen made me think of the etrac i used for several years with the 12 line. I never moved up to the 3030 so am not privy to any of its' ways. I'm thinking this is going to be similar to the etrac i always hoped for in a lighter package. Meanwhile, we move closer to getting one in hand- guess the dealers actually have cost and ordering info now. . . . . rich -
  7. I agree Steve - I described my thoughts poorly. I do see that Tom D commented VERY briefly on his website about audio - I think the key with the polyphonic audio is to come up with tones for each scale (conductive and ferrous) that are pleasant to listen to AND sound pleasant when they 'overlap each other'. Like many here, I jumped on the FBS bandwagon way back when the Explorer series was first introduced and spent many years listening to the audio target ID symphony, as some call it. Seems like just a regular day out detecting to us as our ears have been trained. I'm anxious to use and learn the new M-core system - sounds like you are as well. Rich
  8. The visual i DO think is a histogram type that builds a display image on the 2D screen with multiple sweeps - hence being able to see oblong vs round images. Regarding the polyphonic audio - i saw your post over on Tom D's site - I'm thinking it will be more like this: . . . the DTMF (touchtone used by the phone company) system as an example. Overlapping tones - a group of ascending tones for the conductive value and another set of ascending tones, distinct from the first, for the ferrous value. Every X-Y coordinate / point would have a distinctive pair of tones for its' audio value. The ear is very good at differentiating tones. In the case of multiple targets under the coil at once, two sets of tones would be quite distinctive from each other, in the case of a rusty nail AND a silver dime. An M-core user would hear and see the two different 'targets' and proceed as they see fit. Rich -
  9. To make things more interesting is the new polyphonic audio. Separate audio scales for the X and Y axis. So now i will have the audio and visual X-Y axis indicators to sort out multiple targets.
  10. More of a disappointment that these types of rings have become the current norm. Kinda like finding zinc pennies. Thanks for the good thoughts. Right back your way . . . . hope you have a great next outing. rich -
  11. I had about 90 minutes for this shallow water hunt - No gold this time, but did manage a pair of silver rings. The smaller is .925, the larger of the two with the opal is unmarked but appears distinctly silver and is quite a looker. The dark wedding bands are tungsten carbide, one with koa wood. My collection of the tungsten carbide / stainless steel rings is growing and growing. Ugh. It was nice to get out for a bit. Hoping to get back out with the 800 and try again later this week. rich
  12. I'm waiting too. going to be a long winter wait rich -
  13. Gigmaster had an excellent demonstration. I've had my 800 for 4 1/2 yrs. Freshwater hunting included. No leaks thus far but i did have a good look with a magnifying glass around the charge port. Mine looks good. (knock on wood) My 800 has been a great detector for me. (except for the money i wasted on the Minelab waterproof headphones) I have the understanding that an out of warranty failed Equinox 800 control head and $350 will get you a new one from Minelab since they are not repairable. Gigmaster was talking about chopping a failed 800 open to have a look see inside. I was thinking Noooooo! don't do it. Have i been told wrong? Rich -
  14. I was going to suggest reusing (current dates) some of the coinage from 1981 when the Late Princess Diana was on some of the coinage, however, Prince Charles was with her. He lost favor here at home due to some bad behavior. My wife thought of him as a rat. It stays with the ears theme anyway. Chuck E Cheese.pdf
  15. I had NO IDEA the 7000 has Ground Penetrating Sonar. No wonder it's so expensive. Where have I been? 😏 On a more serious note, I value the opinions and perspectives Steve shares here on his forum, and not just those that are detecting related, but life perspectives as well. The last several years, as the world around us changes, my detecting interests have also changed. Detecting old homes, parks, and schools have evolved to shallow water jewelry hunting and ghost towns. The last couple years I've dabbled with my 800 out looking for gold nuggets. I've had a great time. It's opened up a whole new avenue of learning and adventure. As for the Axiom, I'm glad there is a PI option out there that is more affordable, light weight and has great performance. If all goes well, the Axiom will be my first PI for gold prospecting. A big thanks to Steve for his equipment reviews, field reports / journals and no nonsense feedback. He sets a tone and education level on his forum unequalled elsewhere. Rich -
  16. 24K gold has a melting point of 1948* F, 18K is 1675* F and 14K is 1550* K. Most current state laws requires cremation temps from 1400-1600* F, which fall short of 24K and 18K gold and may not reach 14K gold. That said, the Cremation Association of North America guideline suggests that all cremation remains should pass thru a 1/4" screen after "process". And process is . . . . read for yourselves. . . . . https://www.cremationassociation.org/page/CremationProcess#:~:text=Laws for required temperatures vary, main chamber of the cremator. I read a lot of stories of folks finding gold teeth beach hunting. I don't see a lot of gold teeth today, so perhaps these gold teeth remains are from a bygone era where family members retired remains to the ocean? Anyway, i will let you all chew on those thoughts for a while. Rich
  17. Those dark gray pellets look like a bad plate of mushy peas . . . . and a LOT of work. Congrats on the gold you did find. Rich
  18. Sorry if i may have missed this in an earlier post, could the 50% increase in power be related to increasing the percentage of a low frequency waveform to the manticore SMF mix? I know my Deus1 drew battery power at higher rates as i changed to lower frequencies. If minelab is using a new lower frequency and has changed the recipe of frequencies,to go after higher conductors with the new manticore, wouldn't this account for a higher current draw and thus allow Minelab to make this claim? Just throwing this out there. Rich -
  19. Perhaps the pendant is to ward away evil Manticores ? But then again, who are we to stand between a Manticore and your fate ? Good luck . . .
  20. Some serious bad nicknames going around -
  21. I had a similar situation, but with a HS class ring from back in the 60's. I put things on pause and tried again a few years later with identical results. Eventually it went to the refinery with other gold rings.
  22. It's been fun reading the tale ghost miner spun. I wish him luck on the claim this season as the snows melt and his mining efforts resume
  23. Andrew, I've found that my cell phone does interfere with my Equinox. I hunt with my cell phone completely off. I'm typically hunting in Park1, no disc. Sensitivity max or as close as i can get it. I first noticed this quite some time ago when i found a deeper keeper in a park and decided to send a pic to a friend for a little "look what I found" message and turned on my cell phone for the pic. My 800, which had been silent immediately started chattering and continued chattering while i took the pic. Aside from being ON, my cell phone had the WiFi AND the Bluetooth enabled. The Wifi connects to my house and the Bluetooth my car. I turned off both bluetooth and WiFi and the chattering continued. I turned off the cell phone and the trouble cleared. I've continued to notice this when i stop to take pics during a hunt. So, I continue to hunt with the cell phone OFF. I don't recall whether i tried airplane mode or not. A side benefit is that i don't get interrupted by calls or text Dings while i'm hunting. Really allows me to focus. LOL Rich
  24. LOL. Almost - still have a hole in the 22 plain. And last i recall, there is 1 easy one that i just haven't stumbled upon yet or perhaps missed and tossed in the jar. Been lucky enough to find the hard ones though, some in multiples. Being in Utah, we seem to have benefitted from both San Francisco and Denver mints. I don't want to appear ungrateful for the old coins i do find, especially as we move further down the road and most of the 'old coin sites i visit have been hunted so many times by myself and others that ANY keepers needs to be appreciated. I imagine most of you feel the same way. It is always nice to have some research or exploration pay off with a site less visited that produces a handful of keepers and brings back recollections of the early days. Rich-
