  1. I've had both.  Prefer the Nox 800 and sold the Monster.  Just find the Nox can do everything the Monster can but then it can also do a whole heap more.

Would very much like to have the small coil for the Nox but have never found enough of a compelling reason to fork out the cash as the 11" is a pretty good allrounder.

If you are hunting in bushes/sticks, etc, then getting a solid skid plate for the Nox 11" will make things much easier.   Spoked coils in the bush are a  😖

Best of luck with whatever you do  👍

  2. Ditto to all of that Bootyhunter.

    I'm waiting too.

Some new tech that I cant even imagine that maybe would id the shape of a target somehow in ground,

I've never used or seen a CTX but the visual display does some degree of this perhaps?  Happy to be, and likely to be, corrected. 😀   Anything that gives better accuracy of target and increases the likely-hood of digging 'good' targets and leaving the 'crap' targets in the ground will be welcomed.  This is not coming from a lazy perspective.  This is coming from wanting to dig as few holes as possible in public areas.  As much as I try to leave things looking completely undisturbed, less holes can only be a good thing.

Mainly, my hope is that the Next Gen of whatever has:

-better than CTX 3030 target ID.  Some sort of screen, visual, picture thingy would be totally acceptable.

-faster than Eq 800 processing and therefore target separation

-finds the fine gold jewellery that I believe the 3030 had an issue with?

-housed in something like the GPX6000 but even lighter.

-with a speaker placed where the Eq 800 speaker is - facing right at you.

-a changeable battery system like the GPX6000 and, even better, exactly the same as the GPX 6000 so they can be interchangeable between units.

-a device such as the WM08 so that we all don't have to chase around trying to find a suitable bluetooth receiver.

And keep using the headphones issued with the GPX 6000 - they are quite good thank you Minelab.

I think that is all Santa.   Can you send me one of those?  🎅 🎁 ⚒️

    Cheers, N.E.

  3. Thanks Phrunt.

Thankfully that one wasn't a 'massive' effort.  The first one took up a bit of time.  Uploading the darn thing is what takes the longest!

My efforts are very agricultural and hopefully answer some questions for some people.  If they can teach something as well then that is great.   Like, subscribe and share - I couldn't give a fig  🤣

Coil development for the GPX6 will certainly be interesting and with any luck a range of coil options will eventuate.  Fingers crossed a small coil will be the first cab off the ranks  🤞

    Cheers, N.E.

I was asking questions re the 6000 14DD coil in high EMI areas

Hi Aureous.  Put this together for you, and anyone else that is interested  👍    Again, not high production values but I think it shows the difference between the mono and the DD which, in the end, just confirms what should be the case.

For those in other countries, I have no idea what voltage our lines are.  And I think from past discussions the lines in the US, UK, NZ and Australia all differ?

It is very effective in High EMI areas, even in the Salt setting

I was kicking myself as I was driving home this afternoon that I didn't tick it over to Conductive Ground Cancel mode and give that a try.

Hope you get time to learn that 6000 soon.  When is your friend expecting the lessons to commence?

It can also be of use in extreme mineral ground.

And that is the only situation where I have genuinely tried to use it thus far, but in the Ground Cancel mode.  A spot near Stanley, Victoria that has a lot of red clay and remains wet for an extended period due to high rainfall and plenty of shade.

  5. Morning everyone,

Had a search of the forum and although there are a few mentions of the 14" DD in various thread content I couldn't find a specific thread for discussion around it.

Did a video a few days ago getting a few small pieces of gold and small rubbish at a location I've found lots of small gold in a small area.

I know that I like watching videos and many of us often encourage others to do a video of this or that.  I figure that rather than asking everyone else to do it I should probably do some of the hard yards myself!  This is certainly not an advertisement of a Youtube channel and I have no illusions that my production quality or information provided is any better than fairly average  🤣

Something for you Northern Hemisphere folk to watch during the cold months.

Happy for anyone to add to the discussion, link a video, show some DD finds or provide some tips on the thread.

The thing I found interesting about this was that the target shown at 3.55 mins was quite bright in Normal ground mode.  It ended up being no target at all and just a small pocket of really wet clay.  The fact that it brightened up with the DD surprises me.  The fact that it then brightened up quite a bit more in Normal maybe should have alerted me to the fact that it was ground noise and not a genuine target as the difference in signal on small pieces of gold swapping between Difficult and Normal has been quite small.

    Cheers, N.E.

Monster 1000 with many hour using it with the 5” coil

    Hi Bill,

    Nice nugget first up  😉

The Gold Monster coils are DD and the GPX6 11" is a mono so pinpointing is going to be a little different.  Essentially everywhere around the outside of the 11" coil should give you a response on the target.  Pretty much where that indented line is right near your nugget in the picture.  Grab that little nugget in your fingers and run it over the top of the coil and you'll know exactly where it is.

From there, I just start from behind the target and advance the coil towards it (whilst swinging a small arc) until the coil crosses the target.  Turn 90 degrees and do the same thing.  You should be able to make a mental X marks the spot.  Harder with deeper targets that are giving a broader signal but essentially the same practice to try and zero in on the best spot to start digging.

    Hope that helps  👍

how do you compare the 6000's own wireless headset to the AS70?

Good question, but the answer is "I haven't".  Not in a testing, scientific type of way at least.   All I know is that if there is a lag, it isn't enough to be bothering me.  Which isn't saying much though as this sort of thing isn't usually something that worries me too much.

However, I do know I tried some bone conduction ear phones which were not Low Latency on the Equinox and that did give me the shits!  The bone conduction part was actually fine, the lag was terrible.

I'm heading out tomorrow and will take both, space out some coins and lead and stuff and have a little play.  I started this thread so I guess I had better give some proper, decently tested feedback  👍

Ok, well here's just a few from the past 2 months.....

Nice, you're doing well.  I've been getting a few nice pieces too but last Friday/Saturday pulled up a skunk.  Friday was my first ever at Wedderburn and caught up with a mate staying at the caravan park.  We tried a spot where he had found a few bits before.  Nothing but lead shot and .22 bullets for both of us. Did a bit of scouting around in the arvo and had a look at where the potato diggings were, etc.  Planned on camping out Friday night but a slight, Tier 1 Covid site, stayed with possible contagious people type incident sort of derailed the rest of the day.

Once the C-19 issues were sorted during Saturday morn I just had a scout around the Whipstick looking for a new patch and finishing for 2 hours on an old patch.  But nothing. Used the 17" coil exclusively both days.  Great coverage, nice and quiet but that coil does nothing to eliminate picking up bl@@dy lead shot unfortunately.

    same brand headphones

Rather than a stupid question, I guess this is sort of a statement - you've tried the Minelab supplied headphones.  Still a noticeable lag for you?

Will any of the other headphones or receivers you bought hook straight up to the in-built GPX6 Low Latency signal rather than using a transmitter?

Ive trialed 5 different sets of APTX LL

Just wondering what you are trialling them on?  Are you getting the connected 'plus' + showing up?

That Avantree AS70 shown on the last page of this thread has just been used for a couple of days over last weekend - worked a treat.  But, my level of acceptable, perceptible lag may be different to someone else's  👍

Hopefully, they replace it as it has other additional problems even when it seems to be working

I’d be demanding a new one or my money back.

Very unfortunate for you guys having issues.

So far I have been very lucky with all my Minelabs except an SDC 2300 that had a PCB die whilst still under warranty.

Gold Monster, Equinox 800, GPZ 7000 and GPX 6000 - detectors and accessories have all worked as expected straight out of the box.

The only bonus for those having troubles is that you know Minelab will make things right.

  10. Good to hear from you Reg.

Out of interest, is the location purely a 'from the ground up' build or is some/much of it a local historic township of years ago that has been added to?

Interesting if it was a town of the gold rush era.  Probably be worth having a detect over with a VLF if the new owners were agreeable to it.  Could dig up some historical items that could be displayed there.

    Cheers  👍

  11. Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I had ordered an Avantree AS70 which is a small, low latency, blue tooth receiver that had a clip so it could be attached to your shirt/harness/whatever.  This new version super-ceded the Clipper Pro which was no longer easily available but the AS70 hadn't been released yet - was supposed to be released within days of me ordering.

Well Lily from Avantree sent me an email each month telling me release was delayed to the point I thought it was a scam.  Then to my surprise I got an email to say it was ready, it has shipped and it arrived yesterday.

    A few pics....

    image.png.a0ab3a50f04ceec58320a32e2c3f8b5b.png

As you can see it is nice and small.

Put the DD coil on the GPX6 to test it at home as the DD is as quiet as a mouse inside the house.  The 17" coil on the other hand is the opposite to quiet!

The AS70 paired easily and got the Bluetooth Connected + signal on the GPX6 to advise it is connected with Low Latency and the AS70 showed as a solid blue light - also suggesting Low Latency.

Hooked up the AS70 to both a waterproof speaker I already had and the Philips over ear, ear buds that I regularly use.  The benefit of the AS70 over the Soundpeats unit (mentioned on page 3 of this thread) that I have been using is that this has a clip and has a volume control on the side so I can adjust the AS70 audio up without turning up the GPX6 audio.

Connected to my ear phones.  Neat, tidy and light.

    image.png.508bcdda08a4a9e7e174208d27aeb7c2.png

With the speaker on a Camel-Bak pack.  With this set-up the speaker and the AS70 have volume control.   This will probably be my preferred set-up heading into summer.

    image.png.08e444a22448f6ae44cbe1928989fe18.png

Not yet used in the field but expecting the audio to be as good a quality or better than the Soundpeats just with the added benefit of the clip and the volume adjust.
