  1. Morning all, I have been looking for something that will essentially work like a WM08 (the Equinox wireless receiver) but on the GPX 6000. Something that can then simply have any type of earphone, earbud, on ear or over ear headphones attached to it. I specifically wish to plug some Philips Sports earbuds into a Receiver. They sit out of the ear to allow some ambient sound in so you are aware of surroundings. And don't sit inside your ear like a proper ear bud that can get all sweaty and yuck. I've used the Philips before and they are perfect for me. The supplied Minelab GPX 6000 headphones work great - but I'm not keen on headphones as they are hot and they make it difficult to wear a broad brimmed hat. I do recognise there are other hat options. The non Bluetooth options: The Quest kit is great ( http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-mate-kit/ ) and although I know they work really well, they definitely only pair with each other and I do not want to attach a Transmit unit to the GPX 6000 - possibility of EMI, an extra thing to get knocked off, an extra thing to charge and the functionality of a Bluetooth LL Transmitter is already in the GPX so why not use it!! πŸ€ͺ The Minelab Pro Sonic is too expensive and would need a Transmitter attached to the detector. The Garrett Z-Link - would also need a Transmitter attached to the detector. Bluetooth APTX Low Latency options: I have ordered the Avantree AS70 as it said they were due for release at the start of June. But since ordering (4 days ago) that has been changed to the end of July 😀 https://avantree.com/au/as70-bluetooth-adapter-for-headphones They are the latest version of the Clipper Pro previously mentioned on DP as having worked well. The Clipper Pro seems completely unavailable now. I like the look of the AS70 and Clipper Pro as they have a good clip that will attach to a shirt, collar, harness or whatever. There are these https://avantree.com/au/lock-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver-set but they are a pair and I wonder if the Receive unit will work directly with the GPX or will it only pair with the Transmit unit (it does say auto pairing with each other in the write up). Chase Goldman had previously mentioned these as working well: TaoTronics 65ft Bluetooth Transmitter/Receive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BMT9BY TROND Bluetooth V5.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B4W40VC/ Newer version here https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Indicator-Simultaneously-dp-B01K8ANDCI/dp/B01K8ANDCI/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I notice the TaoTronics is currently unavailable on Amazon. At this stage I may get one of the newer Trond units as that will at least be a back up for my upcoming big trip and may end up being my main unit if the Avantree does not turn up in time. There are a few others mentioned on this site http://www.aptx.com/ but some look el-cheapo, some are no longer made (the site is not kept up to date in that regard), none of them have a clip to attach to clothing and I am unsure if any of them actually pair with a Vanguish/Equinox/GPX6. Anything that pairs and works well in Low Latency with the Equinox/Vanquish should work well with the GPX 6000. Would be even happier if my Equinox WM08 just hooked up (shame on you Minelab 😜) So my questions, finally! What other brands have worked for people? Is the audio quality good? Manufacturing quality good? Somewhat weatherproof? Is the Low Latency good? Have they paired easily with no issues? What sort of time frame are the batteries lasting for most people? Hoping you good people can share some 1st hand experiences - good or bad - and this can be a one stop resource for others searching for a similar device. Cheers, N.E. πŸ‘
  2. Edited - changed my mind and started a new thread in the main DP Forum πŸ˜‰
  3. Good to see the DD still got some reasonable depth in the first video πŸ‘
  4. Thankfully as an Australian I am ineligible as the rules were too long and complamicated for this black duck. Also, thankfully, I am able to live my GPX 6000 β€˜dream’ and not just be waiting for the container ships to unload. That’s hard for you guys in the States. Got out for about 1.5 hours this arvo before dark. About a dozen lead shot, some large rusty bolt heads and nails and a little bit of the right colour. I assume Memorial Day is very similar to our ANZAC Day and is a time for thanks and reflection of those that have served their country to keep us safe and free. In that context it’s not appropriate to say β€˜Happy’ Memorial Day but I do hope you all have a good weekend, get to spend some time with your loved ones and enjoy the solitude or comradery that prospecting brings you πŸ€— Cheers, NE.
  5. The latter! The latter is worse! The former is much betterer - for those that got one πŸ™ƒ
  6. 0.66 of a gram. As of today it is pretty much $50 worth of gold I never knew I had. Bonus! 😁
  7. Have definitely noticed almost the same sound as the 7000 with lead shot. A very consistent, round sound. I used to get a β€˜crackle’ with small gold on the 7000 which differentiated it from lead. The bigger pieces I found with the 7000 sounded just like a square nail. And today I twice got the β€˜warbles’ on the 6000 - both bloody nails πŸ˜– Dig everything.
  8. Well done - that’s a great result. I’ve got to say, I’m loving it too! Not quite the result you had but a good couple of hours picking the bones of a spot where the SDC and Gold Monster had stopped giving. The more I use it the more I think people who regularly find specimens are going to love it also. It’s finding lots of disseminated small pieces through quartz - and smacking on them. Steve H mentioned in a different thread re: people potentially using the GPX6 underground on vein gold - not my cup of tea generally but it seems like there would be very successful application in that scenario. All today’s gold except for the 2 pieces in the top right. 1 from a few days ago and the other was a kinder surprise from a few weeks ago. I was going to get my cousins daughters to crack it open but forgot about it. Today we cleaned out the shed and I had a bucket of hot rocks I’d saved from the QED and a few other bits and pieces. Ran them all over the DD (quiet enough in the suburban back yard) and this particular one screamed! Realised it wasn’t a rock and called the good lady over. Haven’t weighed it but would be about half a gram! Had almost threw the lot out 😳
  9. Wondered that myself. Apparently it ticks the boxes to be a continent (Zealandia) but I'm not sure that it has been officially pronounced as such. https://www.businessinsider.com.au/maps-reveal-eighth-continent-zealandia-underwater-2020-6?r=US&IR=T
  10. Morning Mitchel. I didn't bother to be honest. When he would walk over with either machine and the GPX6 would start to make noises I would just turn it off. So quick to turn on and off it wasn't worth the while of noise cancelling. And there is no manual selectable noise cancel channel - only auto πŸ‘
  11. Yeah, that is strange. Is it noisy with the coil sitting still or only when moving? What about moving along but not touching anything? I’m probably not asking anything you haven’t worked out already but just wondering if it is EMI, ground noise or knock sensitivity when scrubbing a coil over the ground.
  12. The Equinox made the GPX6 noisy when closer than about 7 metres. The GPZ made the GPX6 noisy when closer than about 15 metres. The GPZ real close made it sound like the NYPD had just arrived. So not too different to most detectors I would think.
  13. Morning Dan. No idea about the pre-tested question, sorry. Does sound like a dodgy coil though. Dealer should help out. Let us know how you go πŸ‘
  14. This was mentioned by geof_junk in another thread and had a little Google. Found this https://www.phys.k-state.edu/reu2011/nnorvell/Metal_Detector_Research.html I don’t really understand the technical side of metal detectors. Does this have any application to current day detectors? Will it help cancel out ground noise more? Will the current crossing/not crossing the β€˜bridge’ tell you something about what is under one of the receive coils. Although I don’t understand it, I am amazed and a little in awe of those that do πŸ‘
  15. Noice, different, unusual. Kath and Kim (Australian comedy series).
  16. Might get you more excited with this. Found this as a surface scrap in a spot that we have flogged recently. Wondered why the Equinox, GPZ, etc, had not picked it up when it was a screaming signal on the GPX6. Literally moved with a brief sweep of the boot so it was a genuine surface piece - assumed it was rubbish but picked it up anyway. Nice surprise. Checked on the Equinox - Gold Mode 1, Sensitivity at 25 with an air test - made a scratchy and not very repeatable peep 😲 Different. Noice. Unusual πŸ™ƒ
  17. Further to what JR said, did the dongle fail when the 19" was attached or the 14"? If the 19" was attached and therefore has been attached whilst 2 chips have failed that would further support JR's suggestion.
  18. Likely got 2 batteries and a 17” coil too 😳
  19. Glad to hear that. I think this is my concern - that they aren't flopping around. Are they flexible in any way - in that if you have a fat neck they will expand a little? They look like they would be quite loose on the 'models' in the pics but they may be of a petite build. Take long to recharge from full drain? Cheers, N.E.
  20. Evening geof. Unfortunately I think I am going to give a non-descript answer but I will try as best I can. I've never used another GPX/GP before so I am just unqualified to answer those questions, I'm sorry. I know I've found gold with the GPX6 near Stanley that a GPZ and an SDC on a Gain of 5 had missed (and more lead shot πŸ˜–). And that was a spot we had pounded! The GPX6, to me, is an obvious improvement to the QED in the spot that I worked last Friday. Only a small area and one that I had really covered well with the QED and a Detech 11" spiral wound coil. Not only 17 more bits of gold but numerous lead shot and iron junk. I think this could be put down to the GPX6 simply being hotter on targets in general but specifically being more able to 'see' that porous type of gold. Depth advantage? All of those targets were shallow so hard to give depth comparisons. Again, probably due to seeing the type of gold better? Although, now that I think of it, the GPX6 was finding different sizes of lead shot everywhere and at good depth (6-8 inches) and that is a more standard type of target. What I do know is that I have confidence in my detector again. Very much like what I had when I had the GPZ. I felt like that thing could find any bit of gold within cooee of the coil and I feel like that again. Confidence in your machinery - so important πŸ˜‰ Not sure if that helps at all...
  21. Please do not be sorry at all. This was a thread for EVERYONE'S tips, tricks and technical questions. Can't imagine why anyone thought I would be answering technical questions 🀣 Please ask/provide whatever information that you feel helps others πŸ‘
