  1. Agree ++++++. Use the guide arm every time I use the Z. Helps with control, reduces fatigue. The little crinkly bit of hard plastic near the lower end can be a bit weak if you accidentally catch the guide arm on something and it bends the wrong way. Found out the hard way
  2. If a train leaves Paddington Station at 0900 hrs with 15 people, travelling at 45 mph, with a full tank of diesel and the rain starts at 0930 hrs from an easterly direction. How long will it be ‘til I give up calculating anything and just go detecting Your analogy is good Steve. I’ll be honest and say I really didn’t understand what recovery speed was all about until I read this. So, as I seem to write most days, thanks
  3. Hi Mutheba. Kenya - cool Have you tried doing a full reset to factory settings? Worth doing this to return all threshold, volume settings to default. Does the WM 12 show that it is paired with the solid green light rather than the blinking red one? Perhaps remove the headphone module, make sure the contact points are all clean, etc and then replace. The coil may be disconnected. Disassemble and check all the connections from coil to control box are secure. There has also been an issue reported by many people when changing between gold or ground modes but this has been sorted by simply turning the machine off and on again. Is it still under warranty? Do you have a manual with you or can access one online? Page 61 has some suggestions too. When you get all of this sorted we will need to see some pictures of your Kenyan gold
  4. Welcome to the forum goldgeek. Unfortunately there is no detector that will ONLY detect gold. There are detectors that will help to discriminate between ferrous and non-ferrous but even these are not 100% accurate. Generally these are VLF detectors (have a look at the Minelab Equinox Fan Club sub-forum of Steve's for a fairly recent addition to this group of detectors). There are some Pulse Induction machines that have discrimination also. I have never used one but I gather that they are a long way from being 100% accurate. That sort of makes the rest of your questions moot. However, yes the PI and ZVT machines can locate gold at depth = 1-2 metres on really decent size pieces. Yes, many detectors are waterproof - some to >100 metres. Sorry to burst your bubble but hope that answers your questions
  5. I think you are onto it Strick. The hole isn't too deep - I think many detectors would hear that nugget at that depth. But it is very wide. Shifted a lot of dirt to locate that small target that should have been reasonably easy to pinpoint. At some point Gerry may relieve us of this suspense
  6. Hi Mutheba. A little more info is needed mate. Is this a new machine? Have you used it before? Have you paired the WM12 wireless module? Has it worked previously? Is the WM12 fully charged? You do know the GPZ does not have a speaker of its own? It has to use the WM12 or headphones connected directly to it. Sorry if I'm asking what seem like dumb questions but often it's often a simple fix. Where are you located? Do you have a dealer nearby that may be able to have a look?
  7. Nobody's wearing appropriate sun protection. The lady is doing all the digging. But I'm with Fred really, I have no idea.
  8. Maaaaaaate!!! That's a ripper Lunk. Very happy for you
  9. You and your logic Mr Hershbach - such a kill joy I understand where you are coming from - changing the length of an exhaust pipe changes the way an engine breathes - maybe it would make a difference to the Z. This has been done with many of the GP and GPX series when used on drag coils - unit on the vehicle and long cable to the dragged coil. Were there any changes/mods required to the unit or the type of cable used to allow for this. Reg Wilson might be able to comment on that last bit? I also suppose it is not just a matter of getting the right connectors, a cable and giving it a go - it is knowing what the cable consists of. I am not technically minded - do all/some/most cable innards consist of different materials or are they all essentially the same? Probably not high on Minelab's list of things to work on/respond to but would be interesting.
  10. mlgdave - great question. I tried to like it but I'm out of likes Be perfect for when the little coil comes out (). OR, even more exciting, put the unit in the backpack, the WM12 on the shoulder and the small coil on the shaft of your choice - hey presto - super light weight GPZ!!!
  11. Well...that's truly sad for you in the U.S. I'm a bit bewildered by it to be honest. I imagine that Toyota would love to get this product into a market of 323,000,000 people. So, I assume they are not allowed to enter the market due to trade restrictions? To protect American vehicle manufacturers? (And I apologise GB_Amateur - this is way off topic to the premise of the thread).
  12. Phrunt wants snow like Steve has. Give me the beach views any day (especially goldenones beach views ).
  13. Hang on, so your telling me that an efficient 4.2 litre turbo diesel, 6 cylinder landcruiser wagon isn't allowed in the U.S. but those massive GMC/Chevy/Dodge/Yukon things with 8 litre petrol engines that are gallon guzzlers and were pretty much dismissed from this whole thread because they are so thirsty...they are okely dokely neighborino??? Am I right to be confused?
  14. Is that for real that USA don't have ANY diesel Toyota's?? That's crazy!! The turbo diesel 100 series motors are renowned as one of the best, most reliable motors ever made. People are still buying old ones and sticking them in Nissan Patrols because the patrol engine had so many issues. And the newer dual cab landcruiser ute with the V8 turbo diesel .
  15. Thanks for doing this RR. Always a bit of fun
  16. As with detectors there is always a trade-off Paul. A troopy, although more expensive, will probably get you the same on re-sale when you leave if you can buy/sell right. I'm not a great Hilux fan. If you got a single cab and chucked a quad on the back you have limited cab room for all of your stuff. If you get a dual cab to fit your stuff in you may not fit a quad on the smaller tub/tray - unless you really downsize your quad. A mate of mine just bought his son a single cab diesel landcruiser ute in great nick, big tipper tray, extra under tray boxes, bull bar, side bars, driving lights, etc for $15,000 AU. A decent box on the back for your gear and a fridge slide and room left over for a quad sideways - maybe that would be an option for your trip. You'd still be in Taj MahPaul though You going to make it to Victoria this time?
  17. Hard to go past a troopy. Put in a set of drawers and still have a flat bed to sleep on. Can even put in small kitchenette, sink, cooker, fridge on one side and drawers and single bed on the other. Can even get the high top mods done to have extra room in the roof. Been around Australia in a troopy with a home made set of drawers and a queen bed mattress on top. Me, the lady and Australia - was an awesome year. Wish I had been into prospecting then. Sold my troopy a few years ago to upgrade to a turbo diesel 100 series cruiser to go around Oz again with me, the lady, 3 kids and a caravan - best 3 years of my life. Very sad to get rid of the troopy I'd had for 16 years but the turbo diesel cruiser felt like a sports car in comparison 100 series wagon or a troopy - they get my votes. EDIT - that's not me or my troopy in the pic by the way - Google images.
  18. Very kind of you RR. 26 + 16 = 42 years in total. You poor bugger
