  1. Hadn't seen that one either Steve.

Maybe things are different when relic/coin detecting but would I be right to suggest the detecting technique of one of those blokes would be ineffective.  Fast, wide sweeps with minimal overlap.

Now that might be being nit picky since it's a vid for a wireless audio unit but it is also a minelab vid that is (hopefully) being seen by thousands of people world wide. Not all those people will have detecting experience and they then leave this vid thinking you detect like you are trying to cut the grass with a scythe

And for me watching it, who has some detecting experience, I automatically start guessing if these guys actually have any idea what they are doing and should I be listening to them.

Is that over the top of me?

Also hearing from multiple sources Minelab doesn't really do repairs, they just mail new devices back to you if there is something wrong. ????

Not sure about the transferable warranty but recently had an issue with my SDC.  Sent it back and they replaced the "Main PCB Assy.  Pressure Tested and Field Tested OK".  So they do fix things rather than just send out a new one.  This is in Oz though so USA may be different??

    Good luck.

  3. JW, they are the hands of a nurse and part time prospector. Washed in alcohol with moisturizer all week unfortunately.

It was interesting that HY couldn't pick up the nails - both quite deep at over 1.5 feet each.  Just reiterates what JP says about the different modes picking up different types of targets and how they manage the ground  and how you should go over gold bearing ground with different settings to really cover it properly.

When I get the B&Z I am going to do the exact same little area (maybe 3 metres X 6 metres) and see if I can get something else to pop up.

If anyone is into palm reading can you see a 'golden' future for me??

  4. Out for 4 hours this morning. Tried some different settings on the Z around where I got the nice bits last week.

Got 2 targets with General/Difficult that I hadn't identified last week with HY in either Normal or Diff.

Tested those 2 targets with HY in Norm and Diff today but couldn't hear either. Both ended up being nails but was interesting that HY knocked them off the radar.

Ended up with 1 bit of yellow for the day - not as impressive as last week though .   .59 grams.

    B&Z hopefully arriving tomorrow

  5. Found them in the first 30 minutes this morning and by the time I was finished after lunch it looked like a war zone in the near vicinity - but could only get another tiddler.   The 2 bigger ones were within 5 feet of each other.

Will slowly work my way out from that spot.  It's in hilly/undulating bush with lots of old timers holes around it so chaining not really an option.  Might get some type of thin metal hoe and scratch out a 20 X 2 metre shape, search it, scratch out another one, search it, etc.

P.S. I did pack up the war zone

    Short term =

    - crack the gram mark (thought I had yesterday but it was .94).

So, about a month ago this was one of my short term goals. Back near the spot I got the .94 grammer today and found 2 more bits for .45 of a gram.

And last dig for the day - smashed my goal

I've found over 70 bits of gold for a grand total of about 9 grams - mostly fly shit as I like to call it - and 95% with the Z.

This one was 11.05 grams

  7. Just an update to this thread.

SDC had been returned whilst we were away.

Kevin from Minelab advised via email that they had replaced the main pcb and should have no further issues.  I'm not sure what a pcb is but it sounds technical :laugh:

Fired it up this arvo and all seemed good.

    Thankyou to Minelab

  8. Apart from being handy to get to spots madtuna, could this also be handy in allowing you to better read the dirt, colour changes, the flow of different rocks, etc?

I've been told that WA gold is often in very flat ground and it is often very hard to get a handle on where a run of gold might be coming from - just no rhyme or reason. Getting an aerial view of the situation might help??
