We are Down below Leinster
I had to Google it but just a bit East south east of where they are - cool.
Yeah, they are seasoned travelers so they'll be holed up somewhere.
I must say, when looking at that area on Google maps/satellite view it is really just many different shades of brown. Our good old wide brown land

I just feel the Z is more stable if the auto GB or now semi-auto GB is allowed to collect its data without quick tracking
Mmmmmm, that's what I'm starting to wonder. And if in a new location and I do quick track maybe the walk-and-sweep method might be more betterer...

Where are you Jen (roughly)? My parents in law are in the shire of Sandstone slowly making their way back to Vic - wonder if they are getting the same? They don't seem to have any phone/net coverage though.

Thanks Steve.
A few of us were postulating this question over on PA. Do you mind if I paste the link on there for this thread?
I'm almost more confused now though
In auto mode:
- my Australian ground has naturally occurring ferrite (I assume)
- but I ferrite balance with the ring.
- during the session the Z slowly auto balances to the ground ferrite.
- I am diligent and check X balance every hour or so, and if out, I X balance with the ring and a Quick Track again.
Why wouldn't I just let the Z utilize the ferrite in the soil? Wouldn't that actually give a more specific X balance to that particular spot than a broad spectrum ferrite ring?
-
Off topic but sort of on topic as to where the thread is going
If you use semi-auto now do you need to re ferrite balance during a session considering the Z holds 100% of that info?
What exactly is the benefit of semi-auto over fully auto?

Very nice Lunk. 5 or 6 grams all up?

Jin, you are having an awesome run and you must be doing some incredible research.
Kudos to you
Feel free to share how you've been narrowing your search area

Don't worry, went back and re-read the sensitivity treasure talk. Answered my own question.
In Auto+, the detector still chooses the best equivalent of the 10 available manual settings
and
Where Manual 10 is the maximum level that can be user selected, the auto level selected mayrange above 10 if the ambient and ground conditions allow, giving a greater sensitivity than manual will ever be able to achieve.
Senility may be creeping up on me

From Youtube. One of the better vids kicking around.
I wasn't sure where to post this but here seems as good as anywhere. In the vid it mentions that auto sensitivity utilises the sensitivity settings 1 to 6. I hadn't heard that before - maybe I missed it? Is it correct or an assumption?
Thanks, Adam.

Kohunas = testicles Not sure if it is a saying over your way but if you are pretty tough they say you have "balls of steel".
123 kg - you beat me by about 5 kg.
And yes, I do understand that putting a feed on the table is pretty tough over your way. Just make sure you make it out of the hole each time.
I hope it works out for you
-
Mate, your kohunas must be made of solid steel . There is no way you would get me down there.
Hope you find some good stuff but remember, it is only just gold. Good luck and stay safe

No, certainly won't throw it out RR. I don't intend on selling it but always keep everything just in case I ever do and the buyer wants all original items.
I didn't intend on selling the SDC either though...

RR - I have actually ditched the GM shaft as it was too long for me and bought 2 broom sticks for $7 each. One has been left long and is the perfect length for me and the other is going to be cut down as a real shorty for backpacking, in mines, creek walks, etc.
Very happy ML provided the broom stick adapters with the GM!!

It's a good idea. Well done. 10 would have been my vote too.

What a great find ,hope your batteries and back hold up till the snow flies.
Hehehe, "snow flies". There will be no snow in MT's neck of the woods...ever.
But the flies are sometimes like a blizzard

Thanks Steve. Even if it can knock out 30% or 40% that would be a real bonus. Normal makes such a difference to the number of targets coming through. Hopefully now the percentage might be more in favour of good targets.
Thanks again

Locate Patch
The Locate Patch setting is a great all-rounder. This setting enables you to cover more ground faster. It smooths out unwanted ground noises
So it smooths out unwanted ground noise - does it have any effect on unwanted hot rock noise? I can already slow down my coil speed/ground balance better to assist somewhat with ground noise but it doesn't help the hot rocks. Am I just hoping for too much?? Hot rocks are the main reason Normal ground mode is not usually a viable option around my neck of the woods - but I hope it can be
This is a question I'm hoping I can answer for myself tomorrow but have a feeling I'm not going to get out. So I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced this in the 24 hours you've had to use the update
Thanks.

Unbelievably awesome MT. I hope Gina's scouts don't know where you are
Will be great to see how this pan's out and also to see how you work the area.
Congrats

Evening Marty. There was a mention from a bloke on another forum that that they had been speaking to a Minelab person and had detailed a few things that were coming in a 'soon to be released' GPZ update. But that was about 4 months ago.
I suppose JP, Steve, Lunk, etc may know more and may have tested things but probably can't say much.
Would be great if a Minelab person had a presence here (or another forum or the Minelab web page) and could just give a general outline of what might come and what timeframe. I think that might also be the hope from all major detecting companies.
But you can't hurry genius I suppose

Finally had time to get out and have a decent play with the GM. As KiwiJW and Norvic are finding it seems to be a really good match with the Z. Found 3 with the Z and 4 with the GM - 7 pieces is the standard haul with the GM/GPZ combo isn't it JW?
Wrote a few notes about how I found the GM here - https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=343170#p343170
Enjoy :-)

For attaching it to a broom stick
Seriously though, I think it is there as a back up if you break the original shaft, if you want to make a shaft that suits your height (or even the height of a kid) or if you wanted to make a real shorty shaft that would make it easier to scan creek/mine walls, etc.
And if all else fails in the bush you can find a stick of the appropriate size and use that.
I've actually found the provided shaft a bit long so might end up using the extra bits myself.

Reasonable schooling and a couple of family members are the only things keeping us in Vic.
We nomad'd with the kids for a year. We all loved it but no stable friends was an issue for the kids. My wife and I would live on the road if we had the chance.
I haven't had a chance to catch up on reading any of the stuff you've put up SH but it looks like it'll keep me entertained for a bit. Thanks
(edit: read it now. That ground balancing in difficult conditions was good. I don't think I'd seen that one before. Thanks again).
