  1. Oh well, another will turn up. My in laws weren't driving across until June anyway - they got back to me this morning.
  2. Haha, that made me laugh MT. They are funny little buggers aren't they? Bungarra and blue tongue taste good too. Don't try cat though - quite ordinary
  3. Thanks Fred. Yup, focused on the next goal now. Have ordered a B&Z to see if that can liven up a few more targets in the area. I have been thinking about a B&Z for ages - this was the impetus required Adam.
  4. My parents in law are probably heading to Perth in the next few weeks. They are just waiting for another grandchild to hit the ground before heading over. I think the plan is to drive. Will check it out and let you know.
  5. Found them in the first 30 minutes this morning and by the time I was finished after lunch it looked like a war zone in the near vicinity - but could only get another tiddler. The 2 bigger ones were within 5 feet of each other. Will slowly work my way out from that spot. It's in hilly/undulating bush with lots of old timers holes around it so chaining not really an option. Might get some type of thin metal hoe and scratch out a 20 X 2 metre shape, search it, scratch out another one, search it, etc. P.S. I did pack up the war zone
  6. So some of you may have seen my piece I put in the thread about 'What are your detecting goals' as I was happy I had reached the goal of getting a nugget over 1 gram (it's sad but you have to start somewhere ). Well 24 hours later and I've got another. 11 grams is the big one. 6 is the littler one. And 3 smallies which have been my standard fare. Its been a beautiful weekend here in Northeast Victoria for Easter. These beauties have topped it off. Happy Easter everyone.
  7. Thanks MT. Public holiday tomorrow - I know where I'm heading
  8. It's all relative when you say it's nothing big bloodgold - I found my biggest piece ever today and yours is twice the size Well done. Hope they keep coming.
  9. So, about a month ago this was one of my short term goals. Back near the spot I got the .94 grammer today and found 2 more bits for .45 of a gram. And last dig for the day - smashed my goal I've found over 70 bits of gold for a grand total of about 9 grams - mostly fly shit as I like to call it - and 95% with the Z. This one was 11.05 grams
  10. I am certainly of the hope that new developments are available via software downloads rather than model upgrades. It is probably the single biggest factor that got me to buy the Z instead of a GPX.
  11. I'm in Oz Rick so not sure about USA. They go to Adelaide here.
  12. Just an update to this thread. SDC had been returned whilst we were away. Kevin from Minelab advised via email that they had replaced the main pcb and should have no further issues. I'm not sure what a pcb is but it sounds technical Fired it up this arvo and all seemed good. Thankyou to Minelab
  13. JP...thanks again. Going to have to think about getting you a Christmas present the amount you help us
  14. Apart from being handy to get to spots madtuna, could this also be handy in allowing you to better read the dirt, colour changes, the flow of different rocks, etc? I've been told that WA gold is often in very flat ground and it is often very hard to get a handle on where a run of gold might be coming from - just no rhyme or reason. Getting an aerial view of the situation might help??
  15. Christ I think I'm slow but if you can clarify something for me - especially Z users. The point of the B&Z is obviously to boost the sound so you can hear the faint signals. But with particular reference to the Z and JP's thinking that turning up the Z volume is akin to turning up the sensitivity and thus increasing the erraticness of the machine does the B&Z allow........ - me to turn the Z volume right down - maybe only 2 or 3 - thus assisting a really smooth threshold - a target signal is sent to the WM12 and if it was a very faint signal maybe it wouldn't be heard through the external speaker or headphones. - but with the B&Z it boosts that signal and importantly it is an undistorted signal and I actually do hear it. Is that the real benefit with the Z?? That the machine will run smoother with a low volume but you can still hear targets? Please tell me I've finally got my head around it
  16. Straw hats Fred - is that what we were talking about?
  17. Yes Jakepilot, something like this. But after reading the external audio vs headphone thread I'm going to try a few experiments next time I'm out.
  18. Or have a look here http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/1489-what-kind-of-gps-unit-and-boots-do-you-use/ It's a good read too.
  19. Paulito, You could always use one of these. But I use these so I can wear whatever hat I choose. Similar to what Steve has suggested and they do come with the other fittings - not just the over ear hook. They are made by Phillips. I like these ones because they are not ear buds, rather they sit just at the edge of the ear canal and allow in some ambient sound - good safety measure. They were designed for runners so they can still hear traffic while listening to music.
  20. I've been wearing Keens just on 12 months. Waterproof and comfortable. High ankle version - can't remember the model. Been ok but won't be buying another pair as the sole is quite soft and when scraping a bit of gravel when you might have a target it hasn't taken long to shred it. I might get another 3-4 months and they'll be dead. Link here is useful - but maybe more for us in Oz. https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=19333
  21. Why do 10% of the anglers catch 90% of the fish? Same, same but different I watched an indigenous fella catch 12 barramundi with a handline and a soft plastic. My mate and I caught 1 barra with $1000 worth of gear. We were 20 meters away. Read the ground, learn your craft, adapt your technique to the conditions.
