  1. Oh noā€¦ā€¦.how to offend a Kiwi. Simon will be okayā€¦..just give him a few days to recover, a week at the most šŸ˜”
  2. Once the 6ā€ Shooter Coil goes on youā€™ll never take it offā€¦ā€¦got one on my MX7 and it really is a formidable coilā€¦..the target ID is laser sharp.
  3. Skip the lead acid batteries and grab a 6v Lithium battery. Capacity of around 7.5Ah is plenty of run timeā€¦..at least 8 hours. I run my GP3500 on theseā€¦ā€¦super light and quick to recharge. Remember you donā€™t need a fancy regulated battery (from the GP3000 onwardsā€¦.all regulated internally). Also, the old ā€œdomeā€ battery connect to the lithium batteries but are too big to physically mount to the lithium battery (unless you choose a higher Ah battery which then becomes physically bigger). The battery / headphone connector one in the photo is from an old SD2100 setup but they are easy to make yourself if you can basic solder. The 6v lithium batteries are cheapā€¦.depending on capacity. Mine was about $60 Aussie dollars. Grab an amplifier if you want to use an external speaker otherwise not needed for headphones. Have a great trip.
  4. I guess 12 detectors in my cart is a little excessiveā€¦ā€¦Metal detectors does strange things to some peopleā€¦ā€¦.they are things you can feel and touch whereas a credit card statement is just numbers on a screen šŸ˜œšŸ˜œ
  5. At least the revised user manual states the delay extends to 15uSā€¦ā€¦.somewhat encouraging.
  6. Yepā€¦ā€¦and everyone elseā€™s opinion too. Who knows, Fisher may surprise us all and release a properly revised version. The bugs on the Limited model are well documented on this forumā€¦..the ball is well and truly in Fishers court. The way I see it is either Fisher do the job properly or donā€™t do it at all. Joe (OBN) makes a good pointā€¦..he and other Beta testers have invested a lot of time and money using the AQ Ltd and have provided Fisher with all of the necessary feedback needed to progress this model to the next stage.
  7. Please ignore the $999 that I mentionedā€¦.it doesnā€™t relate to any detector. The release dates for the final version AQ Impulse may not even happen but I really hope it does. No one knows about the ā€œGoldā€ version as far as I know. There is only a reference to these detectors on their website which says ā€œComing Soonā€ā€¦ā€¦anybodyā€™s guess what time frame that is šŸ˜”
  8. What you says sums it up nicelyā€¦ā€¦Iā€™d also go for a proven and powerful detector with a great track recordā€¦ā€¦my updated Garrett XL500 Pulse ainā€™t going nowhere. Hard to believe that Garrett essentially have the entire beach/water PI market to themselves if youā€™re after a new detector.
  9. Itā€™s definitely got some gruntā€¦ā€¦Fisher really owe it to themselves to re-release this model with all of the issues ironed out. 95% of the hard work and cost has been done already. With my GP3500, I can hit my smallish 6.5g 18K wedding ring at 17ā€. This is using a 14ā€ DD coil (comparable in depth to my 11ā€ Mono but much quieter). These detectors draw 0.75A which goes a long way to achieving these depths. Iā€™d be confident in getting 20ā€ on that class ring of yours as it does have some profile to it. Have a good summer šŸ‘
  10. Agree completely šŸ‘ I hope Iā€™m wrong but Iā€™m calling that Fisher wonā€™t release any further AQ Impulse detectors at all. They are currently trying to offload the last remaining inventory of ā€œLtdā€ modelsā€¦ā€¦I sure hope any potential buyers know what they are getting into. Iā€™d be surprised if they shift one unit. They might get a few bites around the $999 mark šŸ¤”
  11. Iā€™m not hating on Fisher but I checked out the latest Fisher user manual for the AQ (Revision 2)ā€¦ā€¦thereā€™s about two or three typoā€™s in the first page aloneā€¦..could they at least get this bit right by proof reading the layout before publishing. The rest of the manual is littered with mistakesā€¦..itā€™s just careless and rushedā€¦ā€¦thereā€™s a pattern here šŸ˜–šŸ˜–šŸ˜–
  12. That asking price is brutalā€¦ā€¦..others apparently share a similar view.
  13. Anyone know what changes have been made to the AQ v AQ Ltd? I would like to know if Fisher have rectified these issues; Are they still using Vishay Potentiometers (Rated to IP67)? Are the rotary control shafts still attracted to a magnet (they should be stainless steel or solid nylon)? Does the noise free frequency selection still drop out between the different modes (after initially locking in the best noise free pulse rate / frequency)? Does the delay setting still default back to 7uS after switching the detector off (regardless of where the knob is set)? What is the latest firmware on these Ltd units? Have they sorted out the metal retaining nut on the coil connector that was causing ā€œnoiseā€ from saltwater? Has the battery pack been upgraded in capacity? If some or all of these issues are still with the AQ Ltd then Iā€™m not sure that the product is really fit for sale šŸ¤” Would really like to hear back from those in the knowā€¦..or maybe even from Fisher
  14. Hope you are well Joeā€¦ā€¦.I didnā€™t know there was an upgraded version in the works. I still think the current AQ platform will be a tough sellā€¦..even ā€œupgradedā€ā€¦ā€¦ I see a lot of daylight between whatā€™s been offered and what should be offered ā˜¹ļø
  15. Could have been a legendary detector but unfortunately it was poorly engineered in many aspects. I was really hoping that Fisher would relaunch a much improved version instead of letting it wither on the vineā€¦..so much R&D, money and time has been sunk into this model that it beggars belief that Fisher can simply let this detector go the graveyard. Who knows, maybe Garrett might step in and do the job properly and put the AQ brain into a beefy waterproof enclosure with two or three beefy controlsā€¦ā€¦get rid of the complexity with all the controls and settings and keep it powerful and simpleā€¦..just like some earlier companies did 20 and 30 years ago šŸ˜³ $2000ā€¦ā€¦..with the history behind itā€¦..šŸ¤”
  16. Itā€™s cheaper for me to fly the 10,000 miles to the USA, pick up my new 6000 and then return home than it is to drive the 15 minutes to my local Minelab dealershipā€¦..in fact, I would have enough for a few nights in Vegas as well šŸ¤”
  17. So in the USA with the 25% discount plus 15% Military discountā€¦ā€¦.drum roll pleaseā€¦ā€¦equals about $5500 Aussie dollars šŸ˜³ Hmmmā€¦ā€¦.let me see what the cheapest GPX6000 dollars is hereā€¦surely it canā€™t be an extra $2500 šŸ˜©
  18. I used to use a section of thick closed cell foamā€¦ā€¦about 12ā€ x 4ā€ and it wasnā€™t a problem to carry around or secure under your belt.
  19. Iā€™ve always used hardwood handles for my water scoopsā€¦..cheap and strong. Iā€™ve never broken oneā€¦ā€¦but I alway do a left to right rocking motion to break the suction and then a quick shake before I even attempt to raise the scoop from the sea floorā€¦ā€¦a bonus is you wonā€™t ruin your back as well.
