  1. Works perfectly. The case is naturally heavier than the stock battery pods but I don’t notice any extra resistance in the water. The 3 x 18650 cells run for a very long time….I charge them after about 25 hours of use just to be safe. I can easily fit a 6ah lithium battery in there but that’s overkill but would run for days. I only did this project because the acrylic cases were being discontinued and I got them very cheap……they were originally over $200 each.
  2. We don’t have old school dealers like you Gerry…..unfortunately. The problem lies fully at the feet of Garrett Australia / Garrett Australia dealers. Full credit to Garrett USA for giving us this impressive detector AND even more credit to people like you who support and promote the product (plus sell it at a realistic price 😉). I think you’ll sell a ton of them 👍 I’ll get my hands on one eventually but it sure won’t be a local purchase 🤬 …….now get off the computer and go find some chunky nuggets 😂
  3. This has been a good thread…my final thought and comment is this……. Garrett USA would sell more Garrett detectors if there was no Garrett Australia dealers and thus improving their (Garrett USA) bottom line. I don’t want to sound harsh or unfair but Garrett dealers in Australia are a hindrance in todays market……let them compete on the open world market. I don’t see why I should have to be significantly out of pocket by being forced to pay their premium prices. I am completely okay with a fair markup price but…….all our local Garrett dealer has to do is pass me a box after I’ve passed him my Visa card. That 2 or 3 minutes is likely to cost me at least $1500 more than it should 😡
  4. Plus…..In Australia, wages are quite strong even with rampant inflation. If you’re prepared to travel away from the main cities there are amazing opportunities. You can get paid a six figure income just by flipping hamburgers or making coffees……but this doesn’t excuse companies from price gouging.
  5. Steve……Garrett Australia want their dealers to retire comfortably just by selling one or two units 🤣 Corporate Australia is just plain greedy right across the board👎 They’re probably thinking “we need to make 3K profit on every machine we sell because we’re only going to sell a handful”……..I wonder why they think that 🤔
  6. You’re a good bunch of guys and gals that’s for sure.👍 I just have to question if Garrett Australia really want to sell these units down here. I know it’s a small market in Australia but give yourself a fighting chance. Anyhow, I want to finish my post on a positive note and acknowledge that Garrett looks to have delivered a very capable machine and I want to see some nice nuggets as you all get your hands on the Axiom.……and yes, the Octopus is back.
  7. I am totally gutted, dismayed and disappointed. Garrett Australia are clueless and the Minelab brigade will be having a good laugh. To my friends in the USA……enjoy the success that the Axiom will deliver for you. It’s actually cheaper for me to fly there and pick one up. I wonder if Gerry does military discounts for Aussies🤔 Well excuse me while I change my Avatar and rant some more offline. ……signing off Axiomless ☹️
  8. Ah what the heck…….gimme one of each 🦾
  9. If I could, I’d pick the 16” x 14” in the Mono and DD 👍 Big wide open expanses down here. Look forward to your future results 👍
  10. That’s a very good point regarding the “ancient” Aussie soils…..some of the oldest rocks found anywhere on the planet……..especially over here in WA. If you find gold in low ground then quite often that’s where most of it is….it’s had a couple of billion years to let erosion and gravity do its thing. I really want to try the Axiom over here……I’m almost at the point of buying it fully satisfied it can do the job well and can be swung for 8+ hours day after day (and that alone will contribute greatly to your gold tally).
  11. Depends on location but in my ground it tends be uniformly hot across a wide area so a GB can be fixed for quite some time. I will regularly update the GB but more through habit than out of necessity. The odd hot rocks aren’t really a problem. On my 4500…….used to run a Mono in Enhance but got better depth with a DD in Normal…..and quieter.
  12. The Axiom has a price of 90000 Rand (South Africa) which equates to $7800 Aussie dollars…..I’m getting a bit worried. I wonder if this is the “African” price 🤔
  13. Dear Garrett Australia……..it’s about time you revealed the Aussie price (and yes, I have asked locally but nothing yet)…….👎
  14. Just copied this from Garrett Australia Facebook……..trust me, that is some very spicy ground 🌶 This is some very good preliminary results if its pinging gold in this ground as you need an effective GB to hear any targets. Good boots are a must on our hot ground 😳
  15. I love my Excalibur but the stock battery pod construction leaves a bit to be desired. My main gripe is the cheap and somewhat brittle plastic pod, especially the battery cap threads as these will crack if tightened too much. Water and fine silt also gets into the fine opening just before the O ring. Small surface cracks seem to appear for no apparent reason 🤬 So I managed to pickup two new underwater camera enclosures that were priced to clear (rated to 200m). These are 15mm thick acrylic cases and very high quality. I was able to get equally high quality suitable connectors for the battery power cable from Aquascan in the UK as Ikelite no longer make this part. I also wanted to charge the Lithium 18650 cells externally (and not in a sealed case) as they can generate heat when charging. The 3 x 18650 cells should give quite a long run time…..much the same as the R&B battery. I’ve got two of these cases now plus the original NiMH pod and the R&B pack. There is no noticeable extra drag in the water that I can feel even though the case has a somewhat larger profile in the water. Two stainless bolts secure the cases (as shown). There is actually room inside for 6 x 18650 cells which would be about a 6000 mAh battery pack 👍
  16. I feel you are being somewhat unfair to Garrett. They are not making any claims or assertions regarding detectability of any size of gold at any depth relative to Minelab units. I also think that any “history” of Garrett detectors having build or design issues have no bearing on what they are offering today. The Axiom doesn’t need to compete with any Minelab detector and Garrett probably know that……it looks to be in a class of its own and doesn’t need to be “more powerful” than rival units. Sit back and let the Axiom stand up for itself…..things look very good so far 👍
  17. I don’t have a 5000, 6000 or a 7000 so need no excuse to seriously consider the Axiom. I do love my 3500 though…..can’t see myself ever letting her go ❤️ At times, she can give me a slight shoulder and neck ache but her charm is irresistible 🥰
  18. Changing my profile picture has nothing to do with my exuberance for the Axiom…..it can always go back to the Octopus 😎
  19. From Google: USB C Mechanical specs: o Receptacle opening: ~8.4mm x ~2.6mm o Durability: 10,000 cycles minimum o Improved EMI- and RFI-mitigation features o Power delivery capacity: 3A for standard cables and 5A for connectors I have always used an electrical cleaner/lube spray on my current coil plug connectors so the same could be used to keep the USB-C port in good condition. I think the port will be just fine with due diligence 👍
  20. I’m worried that the local markup won’t be linear with that of the USA……volume of sales in the US can allow for a smaller profit and spread over many more individual sales. I hope Garrett USA have had a quiet word with our local dealers. Having said that, if the Axiom performance is there then the Mastercard might be in for some abuse. Axiom MSRP is USD $4700……Garrett Australia might use that as a starting point but I hope not. Back in the day, we could buy any US detector direct from the US……so much for “Free Trade” 👍
  21. Hey Paul……did you just wake up after a big night out coz that video is two days old 😂😂 Save some Meekatharra gold for me please…….or at least don’t go to Leinster and take the gold from your inbound buddies from the USA 👍
