  1. I have all those resources and a few more. I've got everything I can find on the V3i that is on the internet. These MR instructions are old news for those who scour the web.

I'm not planning to jack my machine up, but even if I did I'd have excuse to purchase another new V3i while waiting for Whites to fix my current machine... repairs I would pay for. My V3i is out of warranty anyway, so it's on me. I'm not planning to be without a wifeV3i.

I'd rather not waste time hacking the V3i to find this information myself. So, please, I can't live with a mystery that is knowable.

I give you my word I won't spread the information if given to me. If I work for it and find the menus on my own... I may feel differently.

You see, I just collect information, and honestly I may just look around and never do anything with it, but forbidden knowledge can't stay that way with me when I am interested...at least not for long.

No matter your decision, thank you for the tip-off. I will have the information one way or another.

Thanks for the great machine Whites. On track to hit 4k hours with her this year.

    Respectfully,

A happy V3i and TRX customer.

Just to second what Steve says, DO NOT TOUCH CALIBRATION MODE. You will only gain your detector a trip to the factory!

There are other secret menus on the V3i, but this one is the most useful for people who have gone off in the weeds with their parameter tweaking.

Would it be possible for me to get that secret menu information?

I want to know everything about the V3i. Even privately. I'll never tell a soul.

Despite its flaws and quirks, I love this machine so much! I hunted a virgin uptown sports complex today - quarters everywhere and almost no trash! Took the time to run the same sideline behind the Deus and found 7 different dimes on edge that banged hard on the V3i 6x8sef. I realized right there that for me there is no better machine and my jewelry hunts.  I'm all in this year on my V3i. As many hours as I can towards mastery.

  3. I bagged one in a pounded park from the same designer last year and was shocked at the retail value on some of his rings. That was my first FG.

In my case the ring vdi's exactly like a ring-pull tab on most machines that lack the resolution. In fact, I keep the ring and the ring pull tab I found right before the ring in the same baggie as a test piece for exactly this reason.

It's a nice ring that should be worth more than melt.

    Good hunting!

  4. So this is a cold rock since it reads -93 VDI.

If so, I think people using the term "hot rock" for all beeping rocks gave me some confusion. I have found many hot rocks that read the range of +VDI's, so this isolated specimen found while searching clean ground for iron relics threw me for a little loop initially thinking something iron was under it...when there wasn't.

I was thinking this is a cold rock but little is discussed about them. Most discussions revolve around 'hot rocks' from what I saw while searching. Makes more sense now.

Then I started to think, well it is above the ground probe reading at -87 VDI, perhaps it's a hot rock wrapping around the VDI scale... then I just confused myself more.

Pretty sure this is just a quartzite and feldspar common rock with some extra mineralization mixed in strong enough to sound off on my machine.

I think I will recover it for my rock garden as a reminder and learning aid. I'll cut it in half and take a look first. I'll post pictures of the cut rock for anyone else interested.

Thank you, Steve. Your detailed answer is helpful.

Edit: yes, the AM channel goes boing-boing! LOL, that's an accurate description.

  5. Found an interesting rock today. These are not generally common in my metal detecting areas. It was a nice solid VDI no matter how it was swept or what frequency. Pinpointing was weak and all over the rock but generally strongest in the center. Pinpointing with the TRX at max sensitivity it would sound off weakly unless I centered the tip right on a certain spot. Flipped the rock and tried again with same issue. I estimate it weighs around 15 pounds.

I have half a mind to hump it back to the truck to bring home and slice in two on a wet saw and have a peek inside.

Could someone help me understand why this happens, or point me in the right direction for study, please. Thank you.

  6. Does a dusting of snow shut down your city?

I come from a land that has harsh winters. When I lived in FL they got a freak dusting of snow which prompted officials to shut down all the schools and they even started closing roads. I was completely dumbfounded they acted like the apocalypse came.

Hope your weather allows you to hunt and post some finds... I need a 'tectin fix. It's finally going to peak here into the 40's today and tomorrow. I'm going scouting at least.

  7. I'm certain they can.

What if you didn't even have to see the signal, or hear the minute details. What if you were nearly deaf...

I've imagined a machine that could function like we're accustomed but also record a "target signal signature" in high resolution. Slowly one would hunt, scan targets, record them, dig them up, and the scanned target signature is stored in one of two database based on operator input; trash or treasure. The machine would use the database to compare new incoming signals to attempt a trash treasure confidence percentage. The goal being an advanced signal analysis in real time with a known database of good signals to draw from

After a large database is established perhaps one could truly run a cherry-picking program. The more you record the better the machine performs.

    A guy can dream, eh?

Tom.. I am interested in upgrading from my DFX to hopefully a V3i... But before I buy one I want to actually see one, swing it and turn it on before I spend $1600. I have called every dealer within 100 miles from Omaha Ne, nobody has one in stock, I called and talked to 3 people there at White's and the main distributor for the Midwest located in Tulsa Oklahoma. Nobody has been able to help. How am I suppose to buy one if I can't even find one to look at first ? Rick in Tulsa said they have them in stock and on display, and I could come there to look at them... But I really don't think I want to drive 8 hours each way just to look at one. One dealer in Lincoln Ne is pushing for me to buy the MXT All Pro instead... (because he has one in stock)... Says he doesn't think I'll be happy with the V3i because it is to hard to learn.

all of the dealers around here can order one for me, but only if I am going to buy it.

    what do you recommend ??

You are welcome to play with my V3i if you want to drive. I'm just over in Des Moines. Just about any time is good. Let me know if you're interested.

  9. V3i because it's got lots of tricks up it's sleeve to deal with trashy parks. Wish it had a modern bigfoot type coil for it. I'd pay a premium to have one v rated. I get by pretty well with a 15x12 sef when I need more coverage.

I'd like to mention the Deus is really good too. It's what I use primarily in the rain when I can't use the V3i, or when scouting new turf quickly.

I'd been eyeballing the Gold Racer while waiting on XP to either...*ahem* or get off the pot.... and then last month bought a Sovereign GT instead!  WTF...lol. I'm very happy with that purchase so far.

  10. A buddy inherited his fathers coin collection and I brought my V3i over one night. These coins were all MS-60 and tested outside laying on a cloth in the dirt over clean ground.

A gold $25 coin will id around clad dime.

A gold $5 will be around pre-82 memorial copper penny.

    A gold $2.5 coin id's as a zinc penny.

I'm going by memory, which isn't perfect, but I left his coin collection with no doubts that digging just below zinc memorial penny signals and higher will score a gold coin if it is present.

    Dig those zinc pennies!

  11. Thank you for the compliments, Sir.

I was venting my frustrations with the delay and subsequent (I felt) condescending explaination/defense from/through Andy Sabisch at Tnet.

I'm happy others are laughing at the marginally creative channeling of my anger. Hitler was speaking for me in some ways. Always happy when I can make people laugh or smile.

Since I'm here, I'm going to peruse all the posts in the jewelry section at least.

    Good hunting!

    Respect to you.
