my mxt is good my gmt dosent seem to get depth

Apologies, I misread your post, the GMT is a hot machine on tiny targets,

If you have the 6x10 on your MXT or the 4x6 shooter they are not very hot coils and the 5.3 is much hotter and it will see tiny bits when you crank it up,

If you are air testing your GMT and MXT make sure you have the GB locked, and on normal coin sized targets the MXT will get them a bit further than the GMT when fitted with the 6x10 coils,

  2. Moe, a quick test, depending on the coil your MXT came with when you max out the Gain it should be able to see your hand at around 4 to 6 inches in the prospecting mode, you will hear it go from the zip zip sound right down to a waver in the threshold,

    hope that helps,

    John.

His biggest mistake was not bringing the plastic scoop, & he likely threw the target aside. Trying to use his hands was never going to make it easy. The Monster is a sensitive little devil & like the Gb2 will nut off on your hand.

    JW

Yeah JW your right about the scoop, a lot of modern VLFs will do that too, My VLF will pick up my bare hand at 4 to 6 inches using the standard round 10" coil, I had to import a scoop from Miner John in the US. no one had them over here.

We all complain about how detectors have got stuck in the past, although the depth etc has not changed much but the machines seem to be a lot hotter,  I think it would be hard measure the difference between the GM and the GB 2 along with a few ohers,

  4. It's funny Steve, because you know how we get charged a premium over here for stuff, well my Dealer sold me my MXT All Pro 2 years ago for about $719.19 and I got one for someone the other day ( just over a week ago) for the same price, other dealers are charging $915.69, and I only paid $786.00 for the GMT,

And you are right about the MX Sport, to this day I have never seen a person using one, the trend seems to be for the Nokta/Makro GBP and GB2 etc and of coarse the new ML machines, but even with the limited offerings it's a fun time to be buying VLFs because there is something for every budget.

  5. This is such a great thread, But I got thinking with my mind becoming full of "If Only's" because at one time or another we all crave more depth from our machines and after reading a few of the GPZ threads and how it is best described as a Super VLF and then I thought of I wonder what it would take to make a normal VLF ignore the ground in such away that the signal would be able to penetrate the ground to the maximum out put of the machine,

Some VLF's Air test why beyond what any PI does and some VLF's those figures are totally obscene, wouldn't it be great if someone could get that power to ignore the ground and just do it's thing,  Ground balancing is a very cool feature and how it allows the machine to run stable but the machines still can't penetrate the ground like they do in mild dirt or in the Air,

Some people have made posts about doubling the depth and then quoted the power figures required in order to get that power, But what if we did not have to double the power, what if all we needed was a better way to get that power we already have in to the ground, I think the person or company that could make a VLF do that would turn the detecting world on it's head.

This almost sounds like what is going on inside the GPZ but not quite ?  some place I searched back when I owned my sovereign GT It seemed that I could not get anymore depth than 6 to 10" and then the machine decides that it wants to see a small lead toy at 17" using the factory coil, this had me asking my self all sorts of questions and started to give me doubts too mainly How would I ever know if it was searching down deep or not, So I tried bigger coils and found nothing so that helped a bit but this left me wondering how on earth did it see that lead Toy Soldier that deep, I have never repeated such a feat using a standard VLF machine fitted with a standard coil ever since, But it does show that they can do it when all the planets align,

  6. I hope the Equinox is all it can be, I guess what annoys me is 2 other machines had those big claims and they fell short, and I just don't want to be let down again,

As Steve said I use a machine designed in the 20th century all be it an updated model and since 1998 the best companies can come up with is making newer models waterproof, In terms of performance we are still back in the 1990s,

I really want the EQ to raise the bar because I am sick of buying new machines only to find out they are all the same.

  7. Lol, yeah your right there,  I had looked at another machine it seems to have short comings, I hope the EQ is good because apart fro the GM and the 4500 and the Zed nothing else inspires me, It's funny that I moved away from ML and now they are the only company to offer anything I like,

Maybe the Equinox is just what the hobby needs, heaven knows it needs a good shake up, If the CTX has the sharp 2 tone response like I am use to I would even consider one of them.

  8. The machine it's self has some great feature but I draw the line about bs regarding making all others obsolete, there is a lot of hysteria on many forums with wild stupid claims and people making up their own version of things, I think folks should stop the speculation and when it arrives then decide whats good and bad, I have not seen such nonsense over a detector whipped up by wild claims, No one has even got hold of one yet and they are trying to tell others how good it is, that is totally ridiculous.

  9. Yes, I have a US Quarter and 8 or 9" is the average that I can get on that in the ground,  I also have a 1881 Morgan Silver dollar but I am not going to bury that one because it is almost like new, but I should imagine it would make good depth in this soil because it is the biggest coin I have seen apart from Russian coins from the 1700's which are about 2" across.,

  10. The coins I have hit at that depth are British Victorian half pennies and pennies which are about the size of an old half dollar and are made out of copper so they hit pretty hard, they air test at around 18" and using the 3rd tone they will upset the threshold up to 28" so being the size they are it is no wonder I can dig them at that depth, I did see one guy dig one at an inch and a half deeper using the 12" coil.

  11. Well the 5.3 can hit coins at 7 to 9 inches all day and some times at 10" on a good day and the 950 will hit them over 12" So I don't see the need for a 7" coil, Detech  also make a 6x8 S.E.F. which handles hot ground better,

The 5.3 is the hottest coil White's make for VLF's, and when the machine is cranked right up it can see bits usually found with LF machines which makes it perfect for shallow bedrock areas and it is hotter and deeper than the 6x4 shooter coil.

The V3/V3i is a great machine but it has too many adjustment which are just not needed because most people just want to detect and not worry if they were using the right settings, The V3i is a first class machine but I don't think we will ever see such a complex machine ever again,  White's have other machines that can fare just as well for 99% of locations and tasks and in some cases they perform better at less than half the price,

The V3i has it all but tweaking settings out in the field is risky business no mater how well a person knows the machine because ground conditions and settings are so changeable,  I think Whites have taken this in to account with their mid priced machines because their performance is right up there with the best of them.

  12. Whites already make a 6" Concentric so a 7" would not add much,

No matter what machines hit the streets people are never happy, The V3i and the MXT etc can all go very deep when matched with the right coils, The depth question is never far away but weight and waterproofness seems to be what people crave, personally I hate detecting in the rain, everything gets covered including me,

  13. I would rather see them leave the VLF's alone, the MXT and the GMT's work well enough, I would rather see Whites expand on the TDI Pro format making an all new high powered version of the TDI Pro because there is only one real option when it comes to PI's when it comes to raw power.

The MXT was ahead of it's time being really powerful yet simple with sensitivity to match and modern machines are using some of those Ideas with good results with the new Impact and the Nokta Gold+ and the Relic and the Racer etc.

These are good times for detectors with ML and XP doing the high frequency thing and not to mention ML's latest offering, I think we are going to be spoilt for choice soon
