I have been detecting for a lot of years, and my luck changed when I switched brands after my mate put 3 of my machines to shame with a detector I never knew he had, but even then I was not sure and I had Gridded these areas with a fine tooth comb even to the point if I thought I had missed a foot square I would start the area again and still I found nothing and then I read what Steve had achieved with the MXT and added that to what my mate had done that day and so first thing on Monday morning I was the proud owner of one, Being a new machine I was so eager to get out there and I went to a place where I thought would be a good spot, Well 8 to 9 hours of that without a pick turned out to be my second most hated day of detecting and by time I got home I was wondering what the heck I had done wrong, was it the machine was it me, it effected me that I never went detecting for a week, anyways my mate nagged me to go back out there and try this well hammered area and so I agreed and went there and the first sweep of the coil I hit 3 lots of 18 ct Gold with the 12" concentric in a junk filled site that was a part of the area where no one would of thought of detecting because they would of either detected at the base of the hill then walked up it and then detected on the flat area on top of it because this dirt hill was only about 5 foot high and I detected right on the Angle of the drop off and there it was, I think I tend to look for areas where people would be less likely to go which is why I have done ok, it's not about luck it is more about looking for places to detect and Not going there and look for the places that you don't want to go that seems to be where the better finds are, Where most people use a lot of machines I decided to get rid of all the others and specialize with just on and I have thousands of hours with that one machine getting to know it inside out so it becomes more like another Arm and only now am I replacing the machines I once had, The thing is I can make it do what I want and it will work in 90 to 95% of the places on the planet, I have tried other machines but no matter what comes out I have never been out Gunned, I hated XP when they came out more because of politics not the company, but At first I feared anyplace where people were using XP's because about 80% of ML owners were trading in their machine for the XP Goldmaxx Power and one day I followed some guy and I was pulling out the Hammered coins and they weren't, and another thing The Goldmaxx power is Totally useless on the beach, so don't ever try to use one there. I don't think it is Luck, some how I know that I am going to find some thing worth while and I just seem to know where to go, But most of all I know my machine will find it and if mistakes are made then it down to me which only happened that first day. So far I have not found any of the modern machines offer anything new, yet I have put the same machine in someone elses hands who use to use an ACE 250 and they just don't make good finds with the MXT and then they have gone out and bought the Deus and they are always finding good stuff. Bottom line is, it is more about confidence, knowledge, and knowing/Trust in your machine that makes the finds, It is no good buying a new machine IE me buying a ZED although I can work it out, Without putting in the time with that machine, In my hands it is not much more use than a stick, Once learned I would be fine with it, The Skill is in the man not the Machine, and that skill only works if the machine is the right one for you. yes I can get by with other machines but do I want to,,No, and If I won the Lottery I would still own the MXT and any others would a matter of do I want one or not or will I use it. They Can't I got the Boat and took the Girls, lol Seriously I am fooling with my SL and because it is a Manual type machine makes it harder when starting out with it but once you get to grips with it starts to make sense, sometimes it seems like the more I learn the Less I know and the key to using it is NOT to over think It. I guess it would not be so bad if they did not try to use another companies Brand, Like that company who copies the GPX 5000, But they changed the Colour and called it something else, I don't know if it was A PI or not but it really looked good in it's brown and Gold ?? colour scheme. John

Well I was going to say the bottom one is real but the thumb hole on that one looks too deep? A Fat lot of use I am ?? I just don't know.

Someone posted this else where, after they sent in their pin pointer in to Garrett to have it repaired only to find out is was a Fake, Lucky for him he used Ebay Via Paypall and got his money back and the Son of a Chinese Meadow Lady has been reported, Can you tell them apart ?? my guess is the top one is Real but I am not sure john

That was lucky Rick, I sent a message to the Guy on YT and he said that his Pro is standard yet he runs it flat out and it barely makes any noise, So I am thinking that the noise issue is more related to more to the surroundings than the machine its self and Reg's mod just desensitizes the machine to ignore EMI, Because a few people have said that they can run the machine up high, ? john

It's Only about $1800 US which is way cheaper than the 4500 which is about $3847.50 US,, but it has no way to disc out junk which is a shame coz I really wanted to buy it but my 3500 Tortured me over here in the UK. john

Hi everyone I am stuck with a choice to make, The problem is I have a TDI SL and I been wanting the TDI Pro for about 5 years but they do not import it over here but now Whites have agreed that I can have one due to some leeway in transporting the batteries, I have always wanted the pro and in the end I bought the SL Only because they did not import the Pro and now I can have one Is it worth my while to buy it, Being so close to getting it is now having a knock on effect of am I doing the right thing, There is less than an Inch when it comes to depth between the 2 machines, But the real Bug Bare for me is am I ever going to be able to turn the gain above 5 or 6,, I have seen a guy doing those tests comparing all the PI's and he has the Gain running flat out, and it seems to be running very well, I would go as far to say Smoother than my GP 3500 use to run, If anyone has any info of factual use that would be great to here your views, along with how high you can run them etc because if it cant go above 5 or 6 then my SL is going to be deeper maxing out at 10, There seems to be many folks talking about how the Pro warbles is it really that bad, baring in mind I run my MXT and the GMT just where it starts to warble depending on my mood and patients, I am not bothered about chest mounting the machine because I like to get away from the machine when I am digging So am I making the right choice, ?? Note I was going to buy one of the 4500s but because of the junk over here it is impossible to work a PI without some form of Disc system, Yes I do want the Pro,, Is it a wise choice ?? Is it any better ? can I run it up around the 8+ mark without losing targets due to the warble?. the SL is a great machine and I have some new battery tests coming up which I will add to the Battery Thread, Thanks Guys,,, john

Over here no matter what you do, if you own a detector your are never seen in a good light, Even the Arkies from that Time Team TV Show went around throwing washers over sites that were discovered by detectorist and invited them to dig the site just so they could not go back there and go detecting, To me that is just plain nasty,

People like that P me off, they won't stump up the cash to buy a machine or leave the flat screen TV and yet they resent anyone going out there and actually living a life, It's people like that That should have their internet restricted, the world thinks that it is ok to stir up this crap, I resent people like that because They have not invested all their spare cash in to something for the last 10, 20 or 30 years on fuel, machines and the whole 9 yards, john

I agree, Since the Birth of modern detectors there has been dozens of hoards found if not hundreds and as a result of those hoards many Roman and Celtic sites have been found and protected and creating jobs for Arkies all over the World yet with all the History that has been saved by detectorists and the amount of respect we get has not changed, we are still slandered and put down because of our hobby because of a select few, I am now at the stage where I am thinking about giving up detecting and just detecting for natural Gold, As detectorists we have created Thousands of jobs for Arkies in the past 25 or so years ALL of which would have never been found without detectorists, If all these Ancient sites are so important, then why are the Arkies not banging on peoples doors asking for permission to detect and learn to use these machines and buying them out of their money in the same way it takes us months to earn to buy them or pay them off, Yet we have to do all this and then hand it all over to them meaning the sites, and once a site has been declared An Ancient monument it is then off limits to Detectorists for ever, I am at the stage where if I find something like Ancient ruins I just forget about it and find somewhere else because I do not want the hassle and risk loosing the site to the Arkies and I have even had Farmers Tell me If I find anything to keep it to my self and tell no one because they do not want Arkies going and digging up their land and ruining their crops etc, The Farmers are extremely nice people that I deal with and there is no way would I abuse their trust, john
