  1. lol....all nations spy on each other...the ones with the best ability do a better job than the other. There are good and bad in every nation. Demonizing one group and not looking at your own is a waste of time.......Have a great day !

That's very True, It's just part of the Crazy world we Live In, It's sad them doing this to Minelab But when ever someone has something Special someone wants to Rip it Off.

  2. How far offroad do you guys go in the more remote areas? Is it feasible to get a camper in far enough that you can use it as a basecamp and radiate outwards 50 or so miles for 1-3 day prospecting excursions and make bi-weekly trips to town for water/food/gas? I'm assuming no cell/data service in those areas but do you have satellite internet that works out there?

Over here I never have to travel offroad more than 5 or so miles because we have such an extensive network of old 2-tracks (not sure if that's what you call them). Once you get into the bush do these dissapear completely or do you guys have them too?

I've dreamed of doing a long prospecting trip into the bush over there for years, just curious how its done. The above described is more or less what I do here, live out of my camper full time and get it as close to the areas I hunt as possible. Was wondering how it'd need to change going over there.

Unlike the US most of Australia's Roads are around the Edge near the coast, when you head in land you can drive all day and never see another soul,, You can Take campers out there But you just have to take it easy, But You Need a Caravan/Camper Trailer Like This One if you want The Deluxe Tour, lol

millions of miles of them. At least that is how it seemed travelling from Western Australia to Ayres Rock...several hundred miles...no traffic...don't break down!

Geeze Fred, I don't think I've Been on one that Good,

I think the worst one I found was Heading for the Snowy Mountains, Lucky enough I had just Put Up rated and Raised springs For the Diesel Model of my Truck and HD Shocks, and BFG's MT's or I would never of made it,

  4. "7005" the wave of the future..... ;) ................. hahahahaha----- overbuilt---

7005 Life At The Top,,,,, Mighty Impressive.

  5. No One Has To Apologise For MineLab, That's Their Job, All That Is Important is will they Fix it and When, If it Breaks a Dozen Times It does not matter as Long as they Fix it We Can't Ask For More Than That and in the mean time No Doubt they will be Working on an Up Grade to Fix the Issue giving everyone More impact resistant Housing.

  6. Is it too rough to tow a camper trailer back to most the places you hunt, or nearby? I don't have a good idea of what the terrain is like over there I guess.

Once you get off the beaten track the Dirt Roads are corrugated and they will shake A Camper Apart unless it's made for off Road use, Normally I use to use A Toyota LandCruiser Troopy Because once you leave them Dirt Roads It's more Like The Rubicon Trail and then smooths out A Bit Like Yellow Stone. But you can wreck a set of Tyres In A Day if your not Careful.

  7. It can be as good as you like it if you take the right Gear, I still carry the Same gear when I go off the Grid over here,

  8. Based on Steve's comments, I shouldn't be chiming in on the GPZ cause I don't own one, but here goes anyway.  ( I might someday buy a GPZ if and when it prove itself in all the situations that I espect to encounter and yes I do own a Minelab 3000 and a 4500 and a Gold Bug 2.)

First of all, I'm not sure why Steve is defending the GPz so vehemently, as I thought the forum's purpose was to report our finds, our problems and our freewheeling comments about metal detecting in general.  And I for one, really appreciate what Steve and this forum is doing for our hobby.  I especially like it when Zed owners not only show their gold, but all the trash they had to find to get that piece of gold.

Steve has No Brand Loyalty, When It comes to his Passion, For Him it's about the Bush and the Hunt and the Fact that The Next Bleep might just be a Trophy Nugget, Which Is Why you can Depend On Him and His Views, All Machines and Detectors or D9 Dozers are are just tools to him, ( He Loves That D9 )

I have Known Steve for quite A few Years and Vice Versa, So don't take Offence by what he says to me because He Knows that I do Tend to over Think Things.

    John.

  9. Ok, zed has duct tape covering his cracked case and he has spent the last couple of days roaming the n Nevada desert at rye patch. The ground is still damp down about 4 inches, but the only relly bad ground I found that was undetectable was down very low below etna rd.

The place was empty, in two full days no one else was out there but me and zed. Still no gold this trip and I hit a few areas very hard, not even that much trash. I even used the gps in enhanced to keep track of the ground I was hitting so I know my coverage was ok. Oh we'll next time...

Zed is having a new problem and will have to go back in for service, this evening I powered up and now have two black streaks about an inch apart running down my display where the pixels are dead. Anyone else have display screen issues?

I am Sorry To Hear That, I am sure MineLab will Take Care Of You, But This Is The One And Only Problem of this type That has happened Out of Thousands that have been Sold So No Need to worry,

    Good Luck,,

  10. I own one. All my got to say is, while going through some rough terrain. Trying to maneuver with detector in hand. I barely hit the black plastic foot. It cracked it in half. I had to gorilla glue it back on. I use my tools, not abuse them. IMHO it just seems that a little more thought could have went into some little details to make the machine more bulletproof. Not bashing. Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one.

Scott, I use to Build Commercial Aircraft Interiors and when ever they want to Boost the strength of something they would Add Layer a thin Sheet of Hard Carbon Fibre to it with Glue, Maybe if you Stick a Strip of that to the Underside of the Mount That will Beef it Up  by about 150 Times its Own Strength and it won't Happen Again.

But If you Do, Make sure you wear Goggles and Gloves when you cut it With either Tin Snips or a Hack Saw Because if you get any splinters from it Your Body Can Not Reject Them Because of it's Purity, Once you have cut out the shape you want you can use A Sanding Block or A Bench Grinder to Trim It Up as Needed,

    Hope This Helps,,  John

  11. I wasn't Going to reply, But as for Being A Rabid Owner of A Rival Brand,, Thanks,

    Here's what you Don't Know:-

So Far To Date I have Owned In This Order, Minelab Musketeer Advantage, GP 3500, Sovereign GT, The Etrac and the Quatro, Being Australian I Bought everything else that Had A MineLab Logo On It, From Shirts to Ball Caps by the Box Load, to Back Packs etc, Plus Coils and Battery Packs and about every Accessory they ever came out with, I must have spent well over 20K on minelab Products Retail.

I would go out and Buy these Two Machines Tomorrow If it was not for Certain Issue's,

That's A Bit Harsh Mate. See Ya

    .

  12. The thing is the ZED is the most expensive Nugget Machine ever produced and seeing as it cost between 10700 to 16.6k depending where you buy it, One Fault is One Too Many, and it is 4 times more than any of its Competitors and because of it's Cost, I think it is an insult when bits keep falling off or Breaking, I have An old Micronta 4003 Detector that I bought form Tandy's for my Son In 1997 and Guess what, It's still in One Piece and Still Works.

I think they should Recall them and fit new Housings, Because some of the people have blown all their savings or got bank Loans etc and got into debt to Own one of these Machines because of the 40% Depth Claim and at the Rate of the Problems between the ZED and the SDC I doubt if many will still be working by time some folks have paid off their Loans,

That wont happen with My Machines or The GPX's

  13. The GPZ housing saw years of use from thousands of users worldwide as the CTX 3030. It is not exactly an untested design. The cost to develop that housing system was probably one of the biggest expenditures in a detector housing ever undertaken. Only units like the ATX or SDC would have comparable costs.

The idea it is a brittle design falling apart on users everywhere is a stretch.

Mind you, It most Likely weighs a bit more than the CTX and was perfect for the intended purpose, I would not run my machines without covers on anyway and the good thing about that is it adds weight to the top end of the machine so it helps a little with the Balance,

    John

  14. Crazy when you think about it, as Klunker has pointed out the plastic of chainsaws, why I`ve a lektric drill I purchased back as a apprentice, plastic housing, fallen off roofs etc etc, 45 plus years old. Had the brushes changed a few times, lots of scratches & gouges on  plastic housing but still a goer. Guess the 7000 doesn`t need to last that long...... but still !!!!!!

Yep, I would have thought that seeing as its soul purpose is to be used in Rough Surroundings That the covers would be made more flexible.
