Spot On, That Makes a lot of sense, I have found the Spot, And I am in the middle of buying an RV as well, so I can stay there for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and taking one week off then back to it, So I will turn my finds into the 4800 ASAP
The GMT is more of an investigative Tool because I am relying on that to find the hot spots In the stretch where I know where it is, So Fingers crossed, I only started this last year and I found enough to pay for half the GMT that I bought this year, So its early days yet,

"So in Low medium Ground would the MXT with the 12" setup Be Deeper??"
Probably. The TDI is not exactly a powerhouse detector and it requires pretty bad ground to look good compared to a good VLF running in all metal mode. In most ground I found a Gold Bug Pro in all metal did just as well or better than a TDI.
The caveat being, if the ground is mild enough, can you turn the ground balance off on the TDI? Now you have a very powerful "straight" PI about as powerful if not more so than most you can buy. It is perhaps the best beach PI you can buy when run with ground balance off.
Thanks Steve That explains a lot of what I was thinking, But I thought I was get it wrong, So Do I Go after a 4800 In order to deep search, is it worth the step up or not?? the 5K might be a little too much over here @ £3999 / $6240.00.
Thanks Again,, John

Thanks Steve,, So in Low medium Ground would the MXT with the 12" setup Be Deeper??
I understand there is no point in using a PI in mild ground, But if I wanted to search for deeper Targets would the SL be able to do that over the 12"MXT, Because after A Person has used the 12" concentric coil you would have to go up to an 18" DD to beat it and even then it would make that bigger difference,
My GMT seems to be Possessed by Evil Forces, It Has awesome power compared to the last one I bought and they have moved the GB setting from 77 down to 50, So I wonder if that is the Reason??

Comparing the TDI SL and The MXT Pro (12")
I was wondering if anyone as Compared these Two Machines, Because the SL is an in between machine, Between it and the ML 5K,
I have been wondering about these two machine Because I have Read Stories about people Pulling One Ounce Nuggets at 18" At Gains Creek with the MXT fitted with the 12 inch Coil, And I have seen Coins come up at over 13" with the same setup with the Gain set between 6.5 to 7, Yet I have never heard about Deep Nuggets found with the TDI SL, and I have heard about people digging Bobby Pins on the beach with the TDI's at 16" to 18", In Air Tests My GMT with the standard 5X9 coil versus the TDI SL, On a Round Flat 1 1/4ozt Lead Nugget TDI SL = 18" and the GMT = 21" set at 7'5 (pre set mark) So I could do up to 10 if conditions Allow, But considering the SL has a 12 DF mono I would never of expected that to happen, Like The MXT when you Turn The GMT up you Can hear it Changing Gears so to Speak as it Multiplies the Gain,
Has anyone here found any Deep Nuggets with the SL, I know that someone in OZ found a 5.6ozt nugget AT 32" using a 20 NF Coil,
I have picked up Large Iron at have 4 foot deep and the subway Tunnel at over 6 feet deep, But as winter is all but over I am hoping to get out and do some testing ect,
Thanks Guys,, John

I can still use a vlf (GB 2 hip mounted) all day, at almost 80 yrs old i can't even lift a SD or a GP any more. LOL
Bless Ya, Good for you, and are you finding much or are you waiting for the weather to clean its self up,

Steve, Not having used a GB2, used the original GB briefly, how does it compare with the GM2 which I just loved and wish I`d never sold when PI`s came in. Found it tops on the small surface and specis even in hot ground. I do miss the "fun" of that VLF over the "business" of the PI and now GPZ.
I want to get more time In with My TDI SL, But It has Limited use for me here and I was going to buy A 4800, But I have so much fun with my VLF's every time is like an Adventure,
The GB2 is the King of the Specks without A Doubt, But The GMT having the meter helps me Recognise the Subtle Ground Changes,
I Love the V3i but having all those menu's puts me off it, But yes I want one, whether I will buy one is another matter
The GM3 is Nicer to listen to than the GMT from what I heard on YT videos, whether it is in real life or not is something I can't Answer.

Choice of detector - VLF or not - is based first on what you are doing. Choose the right tool for the job you are performing. If you are hunting nuggets in gold fields, that is one thing, but if you are hunting relics in British agricultural fields it is a whole other thing altogether. The two are only distantly related. Hunting valuable relics in fields full of thousands of years worth of trash in addition to valuable stuff, you need good discrimination, and a VLF is the only viable choice for that application.
Very True Chris,, I Have A PI as well, But I bought my GMT for hunting fine Gold In Wales and Scotland As they recently RE Opened up A Gold Mine in Scotland and I am working on going up there for months at A Time, Hence why I Own the Machines I do,
As you say the Trash Is A Very big issue here which Is why I got rid of my GP3500 and went with the SL because I can knock out some of the Junk,

Well my 1 day update... This machine is very easy to use... Didn't find any gold but did find 2 pieces of birdshot(about an inch deep)...1 staple(2maybe 3" deep)...a fish wieght(wedged about an inch into a bedrock crack)that I thought was gold until I retrieved it...I put about 10 hrs on this machine and used the small sniping coil...it was pretty sensitive... I put a flake that wouldn't register a grain about 2 inches in the ground and it hit on it with the sensitivity set at 70 in gen setting...I put a 3 grain about 6" down in the ground and it hit on it in boost mode with the sensitivity at 70 in boost mode ...how in my opinion does it compare to my gb2... It doesn't.... Actually the only plus is it is very easy to use compared to the gb2... I'm going out today on some pretty hot ground that my gb2 is a nightmare on... will let u know the outcome... I do like the machine ...its fun to use and I like not having to ground balance constantly... But with 10 hrs on this machine and me being a beginner no telling what I could be doing wrong if anything...I'm more than sure that when I learn this machine to its potential it will no doubt prove to be a nice add to my now 2 collection of machines...thnx Steve for ur awesome advice ..
Nice Report Nugget, Check out what settings Steve used and see how they go for you,
But it sounds like you have it set up Pretty good So Keep going Mate,
Well Done,, and good luck,, john

G'day Everyone, As Opposed to asking which is the Best VLF and Starting A Brand War, I think the Most important Questions Are What VLF /S do you have and What are the most important Features To You about Your VLF,
With Me Being an Aussie YEP you guess it I was Minelab NUTS
But after Many years looking at Finds on the forums and wondering if I was ever going to find something Like I saw in The Magazines and forums, Anyway I went showing off my Sovereign GT with all the coils I had round A Mates House and he got out a Detector I had never seen Before and within seconds I was deflated And then we went detecting and I realized that Living in an Area with over 5000 years of metal workings I needed A Machine with A Fast Recovery .And Not Only that It Had to be Hyper Sensitive and After Spending Time reading reviews by Certain Young Alaskan Gentleman and dreaming about the Stories he told I ended up with My First MXT 300 and I Struck GOLD, ( 16.4 grams of 18ct ) On my Second Trip Out in The First week, So Back to the AMD forum and I found out about the GMT Goldmaster, So Out with My Bank Card Again and the Next Day I had A shite and Briney ( Bright and Shiny ) GMT should I say, and the first thing I noticed was the Ground GRAB and the Manual GB
Ooooo
So Then I was Back On the Phone Ordering the New MXT Pro, It has the Grab button Tooooo , This Grab Button Is worth its weight in Gold because I Never use my Machine without Covers on them and having the Grab saves me having to open the Cover to switch to Auto Track and then back to Manual and the Hand Made Custom Covers Keep my machines Looking Like New, I love the Fact these machines can be Turned On and I am detecting In Seconds and they will work Anywhere In the World, I sometime detect up to 60 hours a week and more some times and the Coil Choice means I can fine tune the machine to suit the Venue, The Manual says You should get about 40 hours from A Set Of Batteries But I have found that I have got over 57 hours out of them and they still were not flat, I would Like to Try some Energizer Lithium Batteries because they run Higher Voltage and with some equipment can last up to 10 times longer and Have many other Merrits,
For those of you who Are world Travellers If you are going to the UK or Europe Make sure you bring a machine with A fast Recovery speed and if you do have Machines Like the V3i or the Deus they will Be Perfect Also, Tesoro's Are Lethal On English Hammered Coins Too,
Anyway Thanks for Listening, ( yeah I Know) Reading.

Long Scan just means it is longer than it is wide. Remember, elliptical coils were still rare back then so just the shape was unique. It is a concentric coil that came with the Goldmaster II and V/SAT.
Brilliant, Thanks Steve, I hope I win it because they are tad more sensitive and deeper and the mild ground I will be using it, So Should be a Bonus

I really really like my FORS Gold. But I can find gold about as well with any 13 - 19 kHz machine and I assume most people can also.
Yeah, It' seems impressive,
I wouldn't mind a Quid for every hour you have put in over the years

Even though I am no stranger to Whites or ML Machines either, I Still Value your Input and as it was Your Tests and success on AMD that Convinced me to get them Way Back then, ,
The Only thing I would like to see on the Fors Gold Is A Straight shaft other than that its perfect.

Thanks Steve, You have just saved me some of my project Money,
Still It Seems Like a Great Machine Loaded with features,
Nugget65 I can't to hear your results, Good Luck,
Have Fun,,, John

Goldmaster concentric coil by itself on eBay right now at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Whites-Goldmaster-II-2-10-6X10-Longscan-Metal-Detector-Search-Coil-50-kHz-/151683818463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23510f63df Looks brand new.
And a GM3 on eBay also at http://www.ebay.com/itm/whites-goldmaster-3-missing-coil-and-lower-rod-/281694120735?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4196472b1f
Thanks a lot Steve, It says it's A Long Scan ?? does that mean it is a DD? or are they Concentric??
Thanks again Steve,, John

Cool, Thanks Steve,
If anyone has one going Begging feel free to give me a Call, I will pay the Freight ETC
Thanks again,, John

I would like to see A Comparison on this Machine and the GB 2 and the GMT, The Normal FORS Pro Pack Machine costs $1254.43c which is a rip Off, So before I take the plunge I need to know if it can do what my MXT and GMT's Can't.
Thanks for the Info,, John

Steve… thankyou for posting a link to the revised TDI Pro article. I’ve mentioned to you in the past that I was dissatisfied with the original, but finally there was time available to update it along with my other reports. These are stored on the TNET Canada sub-forum for reference. I’m content now that everything reads as they should have initially.
A good portion of the forum discussion recently has centered around a collective interest in the latest Minelab offerings with considerable emphasis on field experience to date. There is little or nothing I can contribute to those discussions, but I’m not about to unnecessarily ‘muddy’ the water with irrelevant chatter about silver hunting. The fact is that the recent ‘Abandoned Trails’ article was an incidental distraction resulting from discussions with hobbyists and friends last autumn. I had very little interest in posting that article anywhere. Usually such run-of-the-mill material gets filed in my prospecting journal and never does see the light of day. The TDI revision was a necessary PITA to finally set the record straight.
Possibly down the road there will be a more suitable time for introducing a silver-related essay here. Meanwhile permit me to compliment your stewardship of this forum, you’re doing a tremendous job and the forum has attracted some of the foremost people in the hobby to its active membership. It generates some very interesting discussions at a knowledge level that cannot be matched elsewhere.
Jim.
YAHOOOOOOOO, We Got Him Back at Last, A National Treasure,
Steve Lock The Door Don't Let Him Get Away.
Welcome Back Jim,

Well, since you already have a 5" x 10" coil, even though it is a concentric, the 4" x 6" DD might be your best bet for getting extended capability.
G'day Steve, Didn't the GM 3 come with A Concentric too ?? also do you know where I can get One, I tried over here but no luck as of yet.
Thanks Mate, John

Recall many years back when I lived in town, bank managers house was opposite ours, new bank manager knocked on the door all excited had a snake in the shed, have I a gun. Said I`ll have a look and sure enough was a small carpet, told him not to worry, better than a cat for mice and he seemed happy with that, about half hour later hear a boom so rush over, he`d found someone who blew it away with a 12 gauge. Bloody hole in the fibro walI and all, he said the only good snake is a dead snake. That basically sums up a lot of peoples view of snakes. Have to find him and chat him up about the money making opportunity over your way.

money,,MONEY now my ears are Tingling.
Yeah a lot of people kill them, But if you have one in the Shed other snakes good or bad won't move in which is fine by me.
-
They are a constrictor, like the carpet python. Hey man, you know they sell carpet pythons here in America as pets, for hundreds of dollars.
Be Warned because they say they grow to about 12 foot, But they don't,, I have seen them with their head in the bush on one side of the road and their tail was still coming out of the bush on the other side and they can be as fat as your Leg, and if they bite you, You can come up in a rash in the same spot for the next 7 years, I don't know why but so the story goes.
-
California King, are they a python. We have one here in OZ, we call a carpet snake that look a little similar and they eat other snakes too. Old folklore is if you have them around you will not have any venomous snakes, often have them in the shed when there is a few rats around.
Yeah we have a few around the farm in OZ, I have seen some Monster carpet snakes Too
-
Struth, Is it Venomous? They eat Rattlers? How come they don't die, I didn't think that Rattlers had any enemies except us?
He's a brave Lad, I wouldn't be holding on to it.

I think that due to the ground rules here it is safe to assume all posts on this forum have good intent. I have not seen a single post by an Aussie here that ever gave me any reason to think otherwise. I thank you all very much for that.
No snakes in Alaska so I am a newbie in snake land. Yet I have not seen a single decent snake wandering in northern Nevada and north east California in the last two years. So no snake guards/gators for me at this point.
I was wondering about Alaska and Snakes, For the past 5 years I have subscribed to the Fairbanks Daily News Miner Ever Since The Early Days of AMD and Every Year I watch The Iditarod and The Yukon Quest,
I suppose it is too cold for Snakes That's Another reason I Love the Place, Going There Is Very High on My Bucket List, I have Even Bought The Cold Weather Gear so I Don't Snuff It,
Due to Life Changing Things I have started to make my Dreams Come True, I just bought a Guitar that I waited 35 years to Own So Happy Days,
run into rattlers on almost a weekly basis..probably because I spend most my time in the low foothills, and they seem to be the most common species, followed by gopher then king snakes. Keep your eyes peeled buddy!
Is That the Arizona King Snake? I think I have seen pictures of them, But The US seems to have a lot more Snakes (Rattlers) And sightings of them seems to be more about how many A Day where as in OZ they are a bit more Sneaky and hide until it's too late,
I've always found it a bit refreshing and disconcerting both speaking with and reading posts in regards to Australians. The old Finders forum is a good place to cut your teeth on speaking down under
As to how a conversation between an American, Englishman and an Aussie goes.... well been there and its a hoot with or without libations around the camp fire. Thing is the Pom and the Aussie will leave the Yank out of the convo till he tries to chime in and then they let the Yank have it both barrels. Solidarity there with the Queen and all I think. The Yanks best bet is to draw on his own native language and let the Pom and Aussie wonder what the heck he's talking about. When it comes to a good long cuss I'm still not sure if the Aussie can outdo a Southern Yank but I do know the Pom will be forgotten as to proper
Though I've run into the Welsh and they are pretty close to unintelligible whether its a cuss or a long yarn.auminsweeper says it best :
So if one day I happen to say something that sounds a bit off just think about it from 2 angles and somewhere in between is what I mean,
When I hear Aussie's Cuss I laugh because too me it sounds funny, With Poms it doesn't have Any Effect and I just think WHAT NOW, When Americans Cuss it makes me Smile Too because Like us Aussie's they are A Young Country and Their ways have not been Watered Down So we Get To Enjoy Both Barrels, Not that it's the Gentlemanly thing to do, It Just appeals to my very Broad sense of Humour,
But the most Important thing for me is Standing by me Mates and there is no such thing over here, well at Leased Not to the level I know,
I Think Dolly Parton said it Best In the movie Best Little Whorehouse In Texas,
She Said,, If You See Someone Without A Smile Give Them Yours,
and that's about as good as it Gets.
john

Yeah, think you`ve nailed it John, we shorten things cause we weren't "learnt" properly, bugger school fishings better.
This forum is a first contact with you US folks for me, but your not really alien,
sort of same but different, gold lessens any perceived boundaries. I think we`d all have a ball round a campfire with plenty of liquid to ensure that no one goes thirsty. But as for John if I say something a bit off, it is not meant to be so.Well Mate, Being on here I sometimes forget that I am not talking to Fellow Aussie's and I say something and it comes out wrong I did it the other week On Here regarding the CTX3030 and gold prospecting, And when I re read what I had written and someone repeated it I thought OOoo that don't sound right,
Sometime I only Open My Mouth to Change Feet

Anyone Getting A Pair Of These Gold Goggles
in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Posted
I don't need any of that either, But I could do with a few artificial Body Parts if there's any going beggin,
These goggles might be A Bonus for me,lol
