  1. who gives definition to something they dont use ? you have to put the time like how people say about metal detectors they are no GOOD and all you do is find pieces of junk.... it all to my belief is the level of faith you have on it and the success you have.

People still use dowsing rods in these days to find water pipes even in big companies..

im not saying for someone to use it as a metal detector but to locate areas of high mineralization that activates the rods in my belief.. not gold itself..

but i understand people have probably tricked people to believe they are to be used as a metal detector. but this is not what im trying to say they could be used for.

ima give this a try on my next trips and see what i discover..

  2. Hey Everyone... does anyone believe in dowsing rods?

i have used it with a belief of success and i know there is potential when you use it for patch hunting with metal detectors and finding pockets of gold deposits.

i have only used it in the water. but i know a guy who used them and found a patch in a hillside.. he marked an area with the dowsing rods then he panned and behold there was gold and they pulled out 6 grams of gold everyday by carrying dirt and panning..

The dowsing rods does two things shows me a Line and it shows me a patch.

No one have thought me this.. i have learned this though experience and want to know if there is others with the same experience as me...

or Have been opened minded enough to try this FREELY loll

I have to agree to disagree with you d4AU, what you suggest was the go no doubt but today after 50+ years of detector operators doing such your chances are much better thinking outside that box, even bugger all thinking and lots of footwork/swinging out in the fringes. A stubborn faith with good strong legs and an ear for that first slight signal that leads to a patch, plus being a wee touched by the sun helps.🤪

I understand what's he's saying about the geological part of it.. as in every country and state  the structure of the land  changes things look different and these geological features would give a experience eye a bigger picture or clue of it's surroundings. This with time should give a better chance of the odds in finding gold.

But this would only come with time and understanding of these different scenarios and results of the work you put In..

At the end of the day putting on the work would give the best results as it lets things prove itself for what it is every time and time again.!.

I agree a PI is mostly the go, I say mostly as sometimes those nuggets are near the surface in these areas thus big signals and because a lot of the mineralization is eroded off the heights/ridges a VLF is very capable in such low mineralization with discrimination a bonus if there is ferrous junk. More than the detectors ability is the worth of a positive persistent attitude to carry you over the initial many days of frustrating searching. The QED is ample to get you going and gain the confidence/faith to prove up such areas, with your dredging gained knowledge of rock bars, and other features of streams that can create drop off zones for heavies like gold.

i was thinking .. should we run a test from a VLF and the PI to see which could give us more of advantages in different soils because im guessing maybe running a VLF in LOW mineralization areas would be a better option?

Hilly/Mountainous Terrans are/have been the go for me downunder here in FNQ OZ, no specific advice except to think outside the box as GS5000 advises. It isn`t easy, in fact is probably the most difficult country to detect, but for that reason you will not have much competition thus the ground is likely virgin ground ie. hasn`t had a coil scan it. Gold can be up high 100s even 1000s of feet above streambeds where even the quartz from the reefs/veins has weathered/eroded out down into the streams but an odd heavy nugget or maybe even a run of nuggets has lodged behind a rock bar perhaps on their way down. Even that original rock bar has weathered down, thus that indicators gone. How do you find it? the chief indicator quartz is mostly gone. Only way you find it is through persistence and stop listening to those stream beds calling you, likely you`ve done them anyway. Nah I doubt there is any easy way except do the footwork.

i have seen these rock bars hanging up around rivers where we mostly mine.. but the gravel is really course with big rocks.. so i dont know how shallow the gold could be to be reached with a metal detector. i think a PI with a larger coil would be best used in these areas.. i dont know.. all i have is a QED with a 20" coil and tiny x-coil for it. i do want to get a cheap VLF to pin point and use the discrimination to find out if is hot rock or nail..

I have been detecting full-time for gold nuggets since October of 2021 and the gold is my main source of income. My back is against the wall. Every day when it comes to finding gold, I must think outside the box and come up with strategies to keep myself in the gold. Everything I learn I share, just ask Gold Ryder. I am forced to produce. At times it is very challenging, stressfull and I am forced to persevere. When I pull something like this nugget out or my 18 gramer, it makes everything worthwhile.

I could imagen how it gets.  I have lived off gold dredging and it ain't no joke. You have to face it how it is and keep going. Either you had a plan and the plan didn't work and now you have to create another plan.  Just because persevering have always paid off for the most of it. Even tho there's time no matter what you do you just end up leaving dry. One technique I have used to motivate those around is bring out my dowsing rods loll. It had helped me in many ways get a better clue on the mineralization of the river streams and sometimes I'm able to track with them the source by following the mineralization all to a 3 feet area. Haven't metal detected these areas but is something I want to try out and see if it could eventually work out for me. But for now I'm just looking to use gold prospecting as a hobby and have other things which could be more stable in the long run as main source of income.. as we all know the more gold we extract the more scarce it gets. You would have to be traveling more or like you said coming up with new ideas..

I got this nugget today by applying things out of my book today. If you happen to be out of the USA. I do ship out of country. It is definitely worth the extra shipping if you are.

Im in the US right now.. that's a nice piece for the day.. I'm planning on taking a trip back to DR maybe early next year.

So I'ma prepare with some things to give it a go. I been struggling finding gold with metal detectors but I guess this is something many find themselves struggling even with the best of best detectors / grounds and experience.. this is why I have love gold dredging with the ease of finding some kinda of gold everyday.. but I believe at the end of the day it might be more rewarding giving this a try. .

  8. i would Definitely .. would want them to be from metal detecting. but i need to gain the confidence of me using the right tool for the right detecting style and that there's a possibility of success from the right techniques..

i have learned to becomes a good gold dredger and build my own gold dredges like the ones Steve have built the subbies.

but i want to step it up a notch.

im going to purchase the book, it looks very well put together and from the same geographical location..

  9. Hello Everyone, i want to know where a expert metal detectorist where would spend its time looking for nuggets around Hilly terrains like in California.. i have been gold dredging around a certain area for some time in the rivers and creeks in the Dominican Republic. i have found some nice gold in some producing areas but i want to look where other miners haven't looked.

i don't really know any books that would help me out on this subject or know any successful nuggets hunter in my area.

This is what learn so far.....

i know there's something they call  " pocket hunting " that sits up on the  hills from where gold originates.

i also know about shallow gold around the benches where gold rest after traveling from up hill that haven't made it to bedrock.

we also have gold patches.. in which they exist but harder to find a virgin patch.. since a lot of Oldtimers seem to wash up all the top layer of these areas.

so i would want to know from a word of advice from experts ..

what would they be looking to target when taken into an area of this nature.

and with what type of metal detector would they take and coils..

we have found multi ounce nuggets in the area but more deeper in the mountains.

some creeks we have failed to find a complete paystreak in which i believe the gold is sitting more on the outer banks of the creek..

  10. We here cook ALWAYS and sometimes find wild Yam out in the woods.

But we normaly take raw food with very little process food.

Plaintains , green banana or yuca for dinner or breakfast

And rice and beans or saldines or herring.

Eatting a whole lot of process food will only get you sick and make you weak..

Cooking and eatting out in the bush is part of keeping healthy and taking a break from whatever you are doing in the day. So enjoy it !!

Not at all. Science is a methodology for getting to truth, nothing more. So far it is overwhelmingly the best method we have. It is far superior to edicts, guesswork, and beliefs. Look around you at all the man-made items within arm's reach and consider all the science behind those items. It is truly amazing. Far more amazing than any beliefs in paranormal powers. Paranormal powers make for cool movies, but are otherwise useless; if they were real the world would be a very different place.

Things we be amazed by today is old technology for the future..

And things scientist are discovering have been there already for thousands of years in our bible.

Science is that point where human feel in need to figure out how humans came to life and came up with the silly Evolution theory.

  12. Science is what humans wants us to believe about life.. in a Human possible way. .

This is why i dont listen to science because i could make my own point about things without the need of someone in a website telling me his point of view.

Just cause there isnt any valuable informacion and many people wanting to use maps and put gold and all sort of things to increase there chances.

I could for a fact be eye blinded.

And a piece of gold be burried and walk over it and the rods will cross right where the gold was burried.

Now i cant tell you out in the field 100 % what is causing the rods to cross just cause of the fact as you could see they are used to find different kinds of resourses.

Even probably a water vein, some kind of mineralized ground or a burried water pipe.

These are energy that happends behind the naked eye that we cant see but feel it when in use of the rods.

I would be dredging and i like to use the rods to get a feel of what its telling me and see how i could use it as for my advantage.

But again im still learning and still not being ignorante to the fact it amaze me a cheap piece of equipment supply me with such data.

  13. I have heard of lots of findings here with rods..and there is no way someone could say it doesnt work.

Unless you expecting a false sense of reality of its capabilitly.

Just like i know many who swore there detectores could locate Deep gold deposit with their metal detector.

I see no reason of comparing it to some metal detector that cost 1000s and 1000s of dollares.

By far if people read the forum or others sites there is something behind them for a fact.

Now everyone need to try it out for their self and see how they could use it effectly for there own. No need to be ignorant and then bashing something you didnt even tested it for a month straight.

You buy a metal detector and spend years trying to find gold and many havent found their first piece. Does that mean that the metal detectors dont work ?

Just need to test and test and learn what creates its effect and try to use it for your own mining experience.

Why look for gold when you can get between $100,000 to a million dollars by just showing up and proving it works? Never happens, and that’s all I need to know. There are various excuses for that, which are exactly, that. Excuses. That’s my opinion, it no doubt differs from others, and that’s fine. My preference is everyone use dowsing to look for gold and leave me to my detectors.

I have tried it but its not like many say it works. . The rods are moved by hot rocks and heavy minerilization and gold.

    Basically Anything that its metalic.

I have also used it in dredging and noticed i was able to locate virgen ground in a river with the rods.

They wont active where we have dredged before.

I marked an area and dredge it and we continue to find virgen ground in a paystreak.

Those are Garrett promotional photos - Gerry did some AT Gold advertising with Garrett and these guys are using that stuff.

Minelab have been the major brand and believe they dont need to spend probably extra cash advertising since their products has spoken for itself and will continue to do so...

I dont believe we are with Minelab. They are always innovative. That is why they ARE a step ahead of the pack. No doubt about that.

    JW 🤠

One common practice is.. lunch technology slowly to make it produce the most out of it..

They have already what is going to be the next detector when they lunch one..

As soon gold and detectors become more dead i bet you they would lunch something that goes deeper then all detectors available today.. and sell it for more cash then the GPZ.

  17. I dont see how this detector could be any better then the currently PI machines in the field. You cant even use aftermarket coils meaning you are limited to the 2 only coils.

I also dont see it being better then the GPZ..

We are being feed old technology everytime by these companies and we always fall into buying them all the time.

Not shown are the paper topographical maps, map books and history books.. small library focused on Victorian goldfields and history. Lots of titles are autographed copies. Decades in the making, starting in the 1980's and ongoing. Never too old to learn something new. This hobby combines my love of reading, the great outdoors and electronic gizmo's.. All the best.

I need me a collection like that.. these books which are hard to find should be free to the public.. or there should be a webpage with all these books information put into for the masses.  Everyone is promoting metao detectors and finds but very little information on how to detect while looking for the metal

  19. Metal detectors seem to loose depth as the ground gets more mineralized.

Dark red clay with lots of black sand and hot rocks..

This would probably be a ground that it havent been tested on but having atleast 8 feet of depth will be nice anyway ..

Just wonder what a patch of gold ranging of a 1- 3 gram gold nuggets look like.

If the machine could visualize im sure its a winner for me.. we search deeper ground in the forest areas.

  20. 1 hour ago, GoldTree said:

    Hello!

The area I found these two nuggets in is actually a known and producing patch that I have been exploring and observing. I personally have found just over 10 nuggets from this deposit ranging from multi-gram to sub-gram, and I am also aware of a few other detectorists who have pulled many nuggets from the very same location.

However! I am not completely convinced yet as to what type of deposit this may be... Sometimes the gold and the ground suggest it is a high and dry ancient channel that has been concentrated over time on this hilltop and in a nearby gulch. But other times the gold alone says it isn't far from its original source. Maybe it's both!!! I have yet to completely explore the possibility of a nugget producing lode on this hill of mine because there is plenty of placer for me to exploit currently. Between detecting and drywashing, I can assure you this is absolutely a Gold Deposit!

Like I said originally though, I have much exploration still to do! 3 acres can sound relatively small, but when trying to thoroughly explore a very remote 3 acres by yourself, that relativity scale certainly tips towards the large side of perception.

Here's a little more confirmation that this is indeed a Gold Deposit:

    IMG_1519[1].JPG

Yes !! 3 acres is a large deposit for me. I havent really been using my Metal detector since i dont have much knowledge in where to detect. I have been to shallow gold deposits here but most of the paygravel is like above a pipe clay. Thats the best sign i have learned to find shallow ground.

But im looking forward to buying some books to learn more. .

I have seen people speak about searching where the hillslopes ends and the benches start.. Its the only place i didnt focus detecting in my metal detecting experience.

  21. I wonder why is it people detect here and there and just find one nugget here and another there.

Could it be you walking away from a large gold deposit that is just too deep for a metal detector find it. ??

Im aware that where you have found gold there is always more to be found.

I dont believe finding a nugget or two be called a Gold Deposit.

Well we all know there is shallow and real shallow Gold .. And there is deeper deposits.

The geology of every different place is different..

Here we have deeper gold and we also have very shallow deposits.

Nothing like austrailia but shallow enough to unweed and pick nuggets from the dirt.
