Found And Lost! 1909 S Vdb Lincoln Head Cent!
Cal_Cobra replied to BMc's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I've seen several dug out here. I dug a cherry 1909-S in San Francisco, it was entombed in greenish clay, must have been a fresh drop when lost. Anyhow, I've seen probably a dozen dug around here over the years. Usually at park demos. -
Testers Are Scaring Off Newbies! Maybe?
Cal_Cobra replied to PhaseTech's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I was talking about body blows, but yeah I've had some detector blows too π Was wading across a creek at a long gone old mineral springs resort and snapped the pistol grip on my CZ-70 Pro when I lost my balance crossing the creek. They don't work well for a balancing pole haha Oh well, luckily I had the belt mount clip and was able to continue detecting. -
5 Best Metal Detectors 2022
Cal_Cobra replied to β Cipher's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I totally agree that "top detector" list is nonsense haha Isn't FTP manufacturing a JIT facility? The current component shortages throw a wrench into the pot as well. Perhaps Geotech can weigh in. -

Maybe Aaron just needed a break, sometimes I take a break from social media and the web. -
Nokta/Makro Legend Available In USA
Cal_Cobra replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
That's a great little coil! Much better than a round 6" although possibly not as deep π€ Agree with everything on the closed coil housing, it's a win-win design all the way around π -

Nokta/Makro Legend Available In USA
Cal_Cobra replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
If this is a closed loop DD design, that would be a great coil. I like the LF24, but I like the GK26C far better for both relic hunting as well as getting the most out of the gold/prospecting modes on the Legend π -

They often offer some additional sweeteners around the holidays, like another coil, pinpointer, diggers, etc. PERSONALLY I REALLY WANT TO SEE THEM MAKE A WIRELESS INLINE PROBE FOR THE LEGEND!!! -

They made a nice selection of Concentric coils on the Racers and MMK, I'm sure they'll make one for the Legend unless there's some technical reason they cannot. -
Legend Factory Reset And Threshold Question
Cal_Cobra replied to Dan(NM)'s topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
I'm going to do a reset on mine this weekend, odd that it doesn't do a complete factory reset π€ @Nokta Detectors can you share the sequence to do a complete factory reset on the Legend? -

I'm (knock on wood) surprised I haven't broken anything detecting before I've sure had my share of clutz moments, I'm glad that nobody saw most of them π€ -
Legend Factory Reset And Threshold Question
Cal_Cobra replied to Dan(NM)'s topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
Maybe I missed it, but what machine? If it's the Legend, the factory reset sequence is [oddly] noted in the error message section of the manual. -
I haven't used 6 Tones on a machine before (my last NM detector was the MMK which IMO negated the need for an Amfibio or Simplex) but I think it works out. I was hoping to use full tones for everything as that works well on the Equinox for me, but it seems like the Legend better utilized some of the lower audio options. It's definitely not an Equinox clone as I've heard some folks claim on various forums. I just watched Dilek's video. Interesting choice of coils, I like the 9.5 x 5.5 DD Elliptical, hopefully it's a closed loop design, please. I think FerroCHeck is useful. I noticed in the video Calabash posted running the Legend through his test garden, and on the targets he said also had iron, the FerroCheck meter was getting lit up. That mimics what my experience in the field has been. Useful for crown caps. I see it providing data that'll be more useful with more practice as we experience it with a variety of targets and conditions. I have more relic sites to test the Legend at. It'll be a good relic machine, especially with all the coils Nokta Makro is looking at making.

Clive, Good insights. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the 4, 6 and 60 tone audio (which one did you like the best)? The Legend's definitely not short on power, it's deep and when I field tested a sample unit at a sea of nails relic site, it seemed to handle small iron just fine without a lot of falsing.

Does a new CTX make sense? I suppose we won't know until if and when one surfaces. I suspect the Equinox was far more successful than Minelab anticipated, it had to erode CTX sales. In light of the success of the Equinox, what's the market for a new CTX (especially if it retains a similar list price to the current unit)? If they don't go the same ergo/weight direction the Equinox took, I think they'll have a hard time selling heavy $2500 detectors that's cannot outperform an Equinox, unless they truly are a magnitude better than the Equinox, which I doubt will be the case. Time will tell, all eyes will be on Detectival this fall π

Nokta/Makro Legend Available In USA
Cal_Cobra replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
Better than nothing, but sometimes still gets tangled when maneuvering it around/under brush. That's the main reason I like a closed loop design, they work great for getting into nooks and crannies when hunting the bush without constantly untangling your coil from getting snagged on low hanging branches. I suspect people who use the prospecting modes also prefer a closed loop design on an elliptical DD coil design like this. -
Gas is over $6 a gallon here as of Saturday.

I started with the original Red Racer, then Racer 2, then their Impact and finally the Multi Kruzer before the Legend. For the Racers and MK they had tons of accessory coils from Nokta Makro as well as a ton of aftermarket coils as well, great selection of coils. -

Great news π Most folks would prefer the closed loop design vs the open loop design if possible π -

Hoping to get this coil on the Legend. Dilek we NEED this 10β³x5.5β³ (GK26C) coil in DD format for the Legend: -
Congrats on the gold (and silver)!! That's a beautiful area, I've beach detected a couple of times around that area with no success.

5 Best Metal Detectors 2022
Cal_Cobra replied to β Cipher's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
We should develop a defacto standard for testing and rating the various categories. All-in-one, relic, gold, beach, coin, etc. Beginner? Kind of like the Consumer Reports of metal detecting haha -

Oh I agree, and if we thought this latest round of product release and/or subsequent "conversation" was an event π² Heads will blow when the next gen EQX is announced, it'll be insane haha π€ I would add the Legend to that list, certainly before I'd put a D1 if there's already a D2 on the list. π§
