  1. Would be interesting to see some of the results from various tests, and what the test garden consists of. I wish I had the space to do a test garden, the NBT is the closest I can come to one, but it's only one of a myriad of tests I'd like to be able to do, such as depth on various targets and such.
  2. Yes that "star chart" has changed more then you can shake a stick at. As TS posted, the Equinox has 4 stars originally, then went to 2, and now it's at 3. It's a marketing slide, as such, I'd take it with a major grain of salt. My largest fear on the Equinox, is that it'll be too good, Minelab may opt to dumb it down, or throttle down it's maximum capabilities so it does fit into that 3 star slot, not the 4 star slot as originally noted. It wouldn't be the first time such an occurrence has occurred.
  3. Dang Australia with all that pesky gold littering the ground like that!! Interesting the EQX doesn't even appear to be in Prospect mode...hmmm.
  4. Looks like the only thing that's changed, is the 600 has vaporized. Could be an error...or perhaps Minelab looked at the presales figures, and decided that if the overwhelming majority was buying the 800, then why bother with the 600. Maybe they learned something from having three different models of Go-Flops? I'd say it's either a mistake that the 600 is missing from their site, or they've made a marketing decision that it's simply not worth the support effort to have two models that are, for all intensive purposes, effectively the same thing, with one simply having some features disabled via software. Perhaps we'll see some kind of announcement from them this week, after all the natives are getting restless to the point of plastering conspiracy trolling threads to various forums
  5. I agree, besides you need a microscope to see those Celtic gold Staters. One Double Leopard and I'd call it a day!
  6. Was kinda thinking the same thing Perhaps the rumor of some announcement/release date on Dec 17th will come true....but then again I don't want to start any lame Equinox conspiracy theories
  7. September 21st. Ordered four of them actually! Oh yeah, their not all mine :(
  8. Perhaps after that stupid Equinox conspiracy drivel thread plastered everywhere, everyone rushed to the ML site to see if it still existed and it couldn't handle it
  9. Steve the "other" site seems to be inundated with trolls, indeed. Shame, it used to be a good resource/knowledge base, but seems to have been greatly reduced to sensationalism and bantering. Sad, even Tom rarely posts on is own forum any more. At any rate the blendy/bleedy audio is a mixed bag. I've noticed that wit those blendy/bleedy machines, I get a lot of iron (big iron as well as that flat tin/sheet metal stuff that seems to litter ghost towns) with good TID's, but generally the audio, for lack of a better descriptor has a buzz about it, not a pure sound. Generally the targets with the buzzy audio are either iron, or junk targets (bullet shells, shotgun hulls, etc) BUT sometimes their good relics, like buttons. I wonder how the Equinox will ID these buzzy targets, both with it's audio response, as well as the TID. Do you know if the TID and audio are locked together? For example, on the old F75 that the audio gate and TID are independently processed.
  10. I bet the Ultimate coil would be killer on the Racer2
  11. One sweet piece of old gold alright! One of these days I'm going to detect on the other side of the pond
  12. Thanks Steve! There was a lot of irony in those "last trip of the season" PM's Luckily I didn't have to bury Tom in the desert (we had a running joke if he found another gold coin, that he might not make it home I hope the next one's easier, and I don't doubt there's one more hiding at that site, it's a big place to detect, targets are thinning out, but I believe it still holds a few surprises. HH, Brian
  13. Thanks, appreciate the positive sentiments! I was using the Nokta Impact, running @ 20kHz, Di3 mode (my preferred relic hunting mode) with the factory 11" DD.
  14. I'll probably never sell it, but it does make it more fun when you find a rare one. This old site has produced a few rare coins, same place I dug my rare 1860-S Seated quarter and an 1837 British silver one shilling coin from. Thanks and HH, Brian
  15. Thank you!! Thank you, it was a surreal moment seeing that gold disc flash by in the dirt, and it didn't really sink in as to what I'd dug until I saw the golden reeded edge. I will likely have it slabbed, not that I'd ever sell it unless I had to, but just for posterity and to really know what it grades out to as I'm not a coin expert.
  16. Tom(CA) and I have been working a site that we researched that's produced several 1850's - 1860's seated coins, and some rogue early 1900's coins, as well as a variety of period relics. We tried to get one more trip in before Old Man Winter completely shut us down, and it did in fact shut us down, but not before I finally, got something I've been looking for for a long time, and after watching others find them over the years (I saw Tom dig three!!!), I was starting to think it would never happen. Well it finally happened, and it turned out to be a good one, an 1865 San Francisco minted Liberty Half Eagle!! Here she is out of the hole: Here she is rinsed off: Here's a video of the hunt: Less than 100 known, Mintage: 27,612 Although the mintage of the 1865-S is quite a bit higher than the mintages of the S Mint Half Eagles from 1858 to 1864, it compares in overall rarity to the 1858-S, 1860-S and 1863-S and is only slightly less rare than the others. Almost all known examples of this date are well worn with VF and lower being all one can expect to find. The 1865-S ranks second in the entire $5 series according to average grade and I do not know of a specimen that would grade better than EF. The very few specimens that I have seen were rather softly struck and the mintmark was always quite weak. Thanks for looking, hopefully the next one comes easier
  17. Welcome to the forum, I'm also anxiously awaiting the Equinox 800. I've been to France many times, but not to metal detect. One of these days I would love to detect in France and also in the Czech Republic, the history over there is beyond amazing. HH, Brian
  18. I've made so many great finds with my Racer2, it's been better than any other detector I've used, until the Impact, but I enjoy detecting with the Racer a lot more. I still struggle with the Impact ergonomics, which unfortunately takes a lot of the fun out of detecting and slows me down as I need to take breaks to shake off the pain in my hand and wrist throughout my detecting day.
