Hey Everyone; After a minimal amount of testing in my backyard, I removed certain filters and felt more comfortable running the machine in its more natural/raw form. There were only a couple of settings of concern for me. First, I placed a silver dime between 2 square nails. The nails were masking the coin so I moved the settings to zero. Once set to zero, the signal/tone of the dime was much improved. I moved on to the Off-Set settings and swung over several denominations of coins. I didn’t care for the tones either so I set them to zero as well. I made a few more adjustments and headed off to one of the most trashy and over-hunted parks in L.A. for a trial run with this new V1.0. I was not expecting much but I did better than expected for 2.5 hours pounding the dirt. Adjustments to the General mode were made to the following; Factory; disc, iron volume, audio response, reactivity, B Caps, notch Sens 98 Silencer 0 Off-Set 0 Full Tones > first 4 bins volume set to 5 Last bin volume at 10 4th bin scale up to 87 PWM audio 40 khz max With the first 4 bins at volume 5, I could hear the targets under my feet but they were soft to the ears. On the 5th bin at volume 10, high conductors were clear from VDI of 88 and above. The tones of the bottle caps and pull tabs were so slight that they were basically non-existent so I didn’t dig any. I did dig a few rusted nails and old iron objects, which was to be expected though since they run up in the high conductor scale. A number of pennies (memorials & wheats) came in at VDI’s in the low to mid 90’s….same VDI as silver. A couple of clad quarters came in low 90’s, where in V.71 they would come in at 94-96. I dug a faint whisper wheatie at a measured 9” which I was impressed with considering masking and the amount of trash at this old dirt park. There were also a number of clear high conductor signals that would disappear once I removed the plug. It seems to me that the V1.0 update has scaled up or down on VDI and erratic from one coin to another which had me somewhat disappointed. It definitely differs from its performance of the V.71. At this point in time, I can’t say which software is better over the other. But all in all, based on these settings, the ground was quiet and made for a pleasant and successful hunt....3 silvers and 14 wheats I’m looking forward to my next hunt with the same settings in HC Mode.

I just received my locking shoe in 2 days as promised. It took a size 2.5 phillips screwdriver from my hobby lobby precision tool kit. Out of the factory, one of the screws was stripped and spun in place but I was able to punch it out from the other side. The locking shoe seems to be sturdy and all is good for now.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. Yeah, ran through the update procedure exactly as instructed and even reversed just for sake of possibly getting lucky. My sister, who is an IT specialist, also ran it on her computer and the results were the same. This remote is locked up on update mode and XP is gonna have to assist at this point. I'll update this post when this gets resolved. Thank you

Hello Everyone; Has anyone experienced an 0.7 update fail yet? I received my update download from XP yesterday. Ran through the procedures including Gary Blackwell’s update tutorial. I must have made at least 20-30 attempts and my remote just locks up/freezes. I’ve gone back and forth between 2 computers and results are the same. Uninstalled & reinstalled software several times, to no avail. The remote works fine in 0.6 so I can at least use it until I get this problem resolved. I’ve contacted my distributor and he says he will contact XP for assistance. If there is a way we can circumvent the problem within the remote, then we may have a shot. If not, then he will send me a new remote with a return box back to him. My distributor also stated that if XP is monitoring the forums, there is a chance they may read this and work through this issue. I look forward to your feedback.

Good info FH, and thanx for comments everyone. I knew the vid was far fetched but I didn't say what I really feel about it....but, it's typical of a lot of things originating from the Philippines. If and when their Covid lockdown is cancelled (and that could be another year), I'll head there and check out post WW11 bases and battlegrounds for relics and coins...not interested in the gold stories. I'll definately setup a YT channel to vid my finds.

Hey Everyone; I just don't know what to do think about this video. I will be in the Philippines for several months when the travel ban is lifted. Taking my Nox with me. Found several youtube channels on metal detecting there and here is one that blows my mind. I know nada about metal detecting for gold, but based on my coin & relic experience, something about this video motivates me to post this for comments. From the user's coil control, depth of the nuggets, soil conditions....I pray it could be this easy. Watch this and please give me your thoughts.

Thanks for your comments Phrunt, GB and Chase. The technical aspects, nuances and theories of these machines are way beyond my comprehension. So I'll just leave it alone. The successes with my buddies is mind blowing as I watch them take in high numbers of silver, wheats, indians, jewelry and relics each and every time I hunt with them. When I hunt solo, I don't give it a thought because I'm inside my own head. When I hunt with them, I get somewhat intimidated because I trail so far behind them on good finds. These guys are just that good and extremely tuned into their respective machines. I have 2.5 solid years on the Nox and they have a dozen years on theirs. I guess I can't expect to be at their level of detecting. However, from the standpoint of mid sensitivity levels on their machines for deep squeakers, all I can say is, you need to see it for yourself. There is something special about FBS detectors. HH

Hey Everyone… I had to dig this one up and bring it up for discussion…again. I have hundreds more hours on the Nox since I started this post over a year ago. Out this evening with my Etrac and Explorer buddies who I refer to as the “Silver Slayers”. I was not swinging my Nox due to a bad back but I tagged along to get out for fresh air and to see if I could find things on the surface at the dirt field. For some reason, the subject of high vs low sensitivity came up. They both told me that they run their sens slightly above the halfway point on the meter. Their machines max out at 30 vs 25 on my Nox. They have their sens settings at 18. Their recovery speeds are set on default. This took me by surprise that they don’t run their machines hot, but yet they dig to depths of 9” and 11”. I asked them to explain. Their answer…..”At high sens the shallow targets drown out the deep coins therefore you don’t hear them…at the lower sens settings, the shallow targets allow the deeper targets to be heard.” Now I wonder….is there a difference in the technology between multi IQ and FBS that makes this happen? I have adjusted my sens on numerous occasions while waggling over targets. If I lower my sens, I lose the target. If I run the sens up near max, I can hear the deep targets. I do very well with my Nox but I cannot keep up with these guys. Their respective silver, wheat and nik counts are 2 to 1 over mine…every time. I’d like to hear a little more feedback on this subject, if you don’t mind.

Great looking Niks. You are taking turd brown niks and making them look like this? Can you share your cleaning process? I have a few V's and Buffs that I'd like to clean up other than using lemon juice. Thank you!!!

I am glad this post has resurfaced. Wish I would have paid attention to it then. I have been into the Nox's for the last 2 years and am still going round-n-round with settings. There is an interesting in-depth post in another forum on the subject of recovery speed and iron bias. The moderator there is advocating running rec speed at 3 with max sens because this is where the Nox shows it's best performance as he calls it "maximum tuned". Any deviation below or above this gets the Nox "out of electronic tune." I've taken bucket listers and other good finds from high settings to low settings and I honestly don't know which is better. I'm leaning more toward what Steve's advice is on this because it just makes sense to me. I'm currently hunting a heavy iron & trash site that has not been producing much lately but my buddy with his Etrac is still pulling out old coins, etc and I am walking right past them. My settings are low recovery, high sens, 0 IB, 50 tones. High or low settings? I'd like to hear more about it on this particular forum. Your thoughts on this Steve?

This is an interesting subject and I'd like to hear from others on this. Do you think T Dankowski's settings detunes the Nox? I run his slow recovery, high sens, 0 IB settings, etc, etc

Congrats on that gold coin Tom and all the others. I sure would love to dig one of those but I'm sure you would not let me cross over the Santa Barbara County line....would you?

Steveg.... This is an interesting subject which isn't discussed at any good length in the forums. You hear about techniques in the field in bits n pieces but that's the extent of it. Coil technique, speed, pace and the ability to read the field during the hunt has so much to do with ones success out there. For me personally...changes in these areas have improved my success in the field.

Congrats on all that silver Steve !!!! You don't see many "5 silver days" posted in the forums. And you dug my fav coin... the Buff. You did great. Talking about finding producing spots... I hunt on & off with a couple of silver slayers. They cover ground until they hit producing spots and then pound it. They do however swing the coil in tight overlapping sweeps in selective areas. By the end of the day they both have dozens of wheats in their pouches, a few silvers, tokens, etc. It's amazing how they work a park. I on the other hand, don't move as quickly and tend to focus on a small area and dig fewer coins. That's just the way I like to hunt. I would love to find a honey hole such as the one where you dug all that silver.

Nice finds Dan. I love turquoise. You're right about the weirdness that goes with this hobby. Often times I pause in wonder after an historical/vintage find. That's what's so cool about this hobby.

Excellent...congrats!!!! Those coins are in great condition. Lately I have been wanting to ask the forum if anyone has found a keeper on a 39 signal. You beat me to it with these coins....Thanx for posting. I've been digging quite a few 39's only to come up with deep rusty nails. These signals are not a constant 39 though...the TID moves on a range of high 20's to mid 30's and then bounces around the 38/39 area. As of late, I simply walk upon seeing the 39. If the 39 does not show, then I dig. I have a site where the potential for 1800's coins exist. Got my first Walker there and I think it was in the 34-35 range. Could I have walked away from a silver dollar? Have to rethink how I hunt this place now.

Nice hunt Dan. You sure went through the garbage for those necklaces. All keepers makes it worth the effort. Do you hunt primarily in 2 tones? What is your tone pitch set at? I've never hunted in or near the water although I'm surrounded by it.

I appreciate it when a poster shows their junk/trash digs. It makes me take notice that one of the reasons I don't have as many good finds like I used to is because I have been too overly selective with what signals I should be digging. I really have to start digging more. Congrats on your silver Dan !!!!!!

Wow, amazing and congrats !!!!! This reminds me of a Jacques Cousteau documentary. This is above & beyond anything I could imagine myself doing in this hobby. You have taken it to another level.
