  1. Those are awesome finds for the time you've put into the Nox. Congrats !!!!!
  2. Hey Aurum... I wasn't trying to shake the tree or seem overly defensive re your post. I sincerely apologize if I came off this way. Re the 600..... Well, I've become extremely comfortable and confident with it that I didn't see a need to change up in machines again. But the more I think about it... I would like to hunt side-by-side with and 800 user so they can show me how some of the settings work. I may like it or I may not. Hey, you never know, I may do an upgrade. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Nox and as always... happy hunting.
  3. You have been killing it FT. It's been fun reading all the details that you put into your posts. I feel the same with respect to the Nox. Great machine !!!
  4. Whooa !!!! Man !!!! Whooa !!!! Totally awesome finds !!!! I love the way you arranged your gear. This post made my day. By the way... where did you get that utility belt? I need one of those.
  5. Oh please don't try to make me feel bad for owning a 600. My story.... I initially bought the 600 due to lack of inventory on the 800. I thought, "I can easily afford the 800 when they arrive" but I couldn't wait to break myself in on the Nox so I bought the 600. I'm up to about 80-90 hours now and I have to be honest....I don't think I'll be buying the 800. Why? Because I have a good understanding of the 600 now. Coming from the Safari/Etrac FBS tone machines, it's an easy transition. I hunt in 50 tones and I don't feel the need for tone breaks, etc. I've gotten pretty good at determining what's under my coil by listening to the tones and reliably the TID's. I hardly dig screw caps but only to randomly spot check. Nickels, dimes, coppers, quarters, (silver or clad) have their respective tones and TID numbers and you pretty much know when you are over one. I still get fooled by junk signals, but I've overcome many that at first took up a lot of my time. As far as recovery speeds, It seems to me and from what I'm reading, 800 users rarely ratchet it up to 8. My top end on the 600 is 3 which is equivalent to 6 on the 800. Pretty quick I think considering my success with it. It seems that many are having consistent success in the range of 5 - 7 anyway. The 600 has given me bucketlisters from the day I bought it. My first 3 hours at an old heavily pounded park in L.A. netted me my first injun and a couple of mercs. Overall in my short time with it, it has given me a couple of V's, buffalos, mercs, rosies, a GW, dozens of wheats, tokens, rings, and tons of clad. And now since I'm focused on nickels, I'm simply killing it. The other day I dug 16 nickels in 3 hours. It just brings me closer to digging more buffs and V's.... and I'm excited about that. I don't own the 800 and never used one but I don't think it's fair to sell the 600 short due to a few more bells & whistles that the 800 has to play with. And I certainly hope that others look into all the details before making their decision from one over the other. Lastly, I'm not a gold hunter so the lack of prospector modes is fine by me.
  6. Now that it is hot again... (over 100 degrees these past few days in the L.A. and burb areas) I'll be using my Bose buds. I have the Bose stereo ear buds that fit perfectly in the ear and do not fall out. I've even had them ripped out of my ears many times when laying my MD on the ground and they simply hold up to abuse. The best thing about these are the signals are loud and clear and just as good or better than my Grey Ghosts or my Audio Technica. The pair that I have will set you back $130 from the Bose Store. Well worth it !!!
  7. Prayers out to your mom from Los Angeles. Congrats on your awesome day !!! Soon I will try my hand at beach hunting.
  8. Wow !!!! Date is there one minute, gone the next....crazy!!! I just love the portrait of the injun in front and buff in back. So so cool looking. My fav for sure. My last 2 looking like some of the ones you are finding.
  9. Awesome finds...Congrats !!! I'm on a nickel crusade this year. I'll take the dated buffs & V's over a Rosie or Merc any old day. Yes, 12-13 (in AM) is the magic number for the nicks. I'm getting more than my share since I set my disc pattern to hone in on them.
  10. Jeff: Yes, I realize I'll be missing some good stuff but I have to let go of something since the power of this Nox throws too much at me all at once. I've never hunted for gold so I guess I don't what I'm missing...yet. Thanx for your input. Chase: Good points in your reply. Had to read it 3 times to understand what you were saying... LOL. But, all-in-all, I always take away valuable insights from your postings. I think at this point, I'll just run with the settings described since you have validated a major part of my understanding of discrimination. By the way... If you look at my pic, I have 18+ opened up so I don't miss the silver war niks and injuns. I have several war niks both mid-co and high-co. All I'm basically doing is cutting out the other mid-co's....yes, yes, yes, I'm missing potential gold but I got to give something up for now. I do hunt in Park 2 as well, in factory settings, but only in the newer parks. Field 2 is for my buffs, V's and other old silver. The Nox basically gives me 6 machines in one and I have to take my baby steps in learning them. As I sign off from this post, I'm getting the Nox into the car, a cooler with cold drinks, snacks, cuz it's about 90 degrees out there today. Have a great 4th of July everyone!!!
  11. Hey Everyone; I would like to get your feedback on how I use my settings on my 600. I was never into digging mid conductors with the exception to nickels. I have been killing it on the niks and I’m hoping to pick up some more buffs & V’s this year. And if silver gets in the way, then I’ll take them too. Here is a pic of my settings in Field 2, 50 tones, 0 thresh, 0 iron bias, multi, sens 20, recovery 3. I have basically disc’d out all mid-conductors except 12, 13, 14 for the niks and open on zincs to silver or small/large clad. Before I dig, I put it in AM to check for stability on the VDI from when I first picked up the signal. The reason I open up the iron is because I read somewhere that the less filtering of targets, the less depth is affected. This could be a theory that holds no validity but it’s a strategy that I use now at my old polluted L.A. parks. I don’t mind at all listening to the iron because I can easily tell what it is against my nickel signals. Then of course, the high conductors have a sound of its own and there’s no mistaking those. Some of you have racked up a significant amount of hours on your Nox’s in various modes and I would like to hear the positives or negatives on these settings that I really like. Is there any validity to the theory of disc’ing this way? Am I giving up something or gaining? Your feedback is appreciated.
  12. Thanx for the video on the repair Againstmywill. Today my buddy came up to me and said "hey look, I got a hole on my pinpointer...this means that if water gets to the inside, I may have problems". So I pulled mine out of the holster and what do ya know? I have the same thing going on but my hole is bigger than his. Couldn't tell because dirt had plugged up the hole. Who would have thought that you could wear a hole in it only after a 1 year worth of use. Well...off to Lowes.
  13. Perfect !! This is the way I like to read about MD experiences. That was kind and admirable of you to give the stoic marine the coins. Sometimes it's about the hunt and not what you can put in the pocket. Congrats on your awesome day !!
  14. Nice find. Gotta be old. I can't hardly wait to hear more about it.
  15. Nice finds there. You must have put them under XXXX power to see the dates. I've never seen a counterfeit of any coin. What is the giveaway? Also If you don't mind, where did you buy the adapters for the headphones? Couldn't find it at Fryes Electrionics nor Best Buy and I've pretty much given up on looking so I had to spend $126 for a pair of Audio Technica because it has the 1/8 plug. I have a great pair of Grey Ghost Ultimates (1/4) that I also paid $125 that I use for my Safari but I can't use them on the Nox. Wish I could though.
  16. Minelab is good about making you whole on a defective item. I had a defective arm cuff. Notified them and same day they responded and following day gave me a tracking number for a new arm cuff headed my way. Can't beat that service !!!
  17. Thanks for sharing your story....it was great !! You have a great attitude !! Be careful out there and fully recover soon.
  18. Hmmmmm... I sure learned a lot from these posts, and since I hunt in 50 tones, maybe there is no need to upgrade to the 800. I like simplicity as well.... factory settings for me (and I have been killing it).
  19. You got a Nox, you can do it too...Haha. My Safari is good on nickels and so is the Etrac and Explorer. But thus far, since I am on a nickel crusade, my Nox has been knocking it out of the park. I have a nice pile of niks now but my goal is to collect buffs/V's which just gives me a new challenge instead of constantly chasing the silver. Last year I decided to block out all zinc signals and my silver count shot up but then I had no indians and no doubt missed some other good things too. So there is a trade off here but I tend to focus on one coin species at a time. That's just me.
  20. You're right Cal... he dropped off the radar but is back swinging and killing it. I've been in this hobby for 1.5 years and have done quite well due to my aggressiveness, passion and most of all the mentoring I've received from people like Jamflicker and Dan. Jamflicker is active on FMDF and you can see his finds posted there each week. These guys hunt close enough to where we can walk over to check each others signals, which has been great to my learning curve. At this juncture, I can't say too much about the differences between my success with the Nox vs my Safari. I just don't have enough time on the Nox. I look forward to the day where I can pop out as many coins as they do and pass on the experience.
  21. Yeah Cal.... that would be Dan (CaptSE). I hunt on & off with him. I also hunt regularly with Jamflicker. Between the 2, they are phenomenal silver hunters with their Etrac and Explorer. I could never keep up with them. Thanx for stopping in....
  22. Planned short morning hunt yesterday in a polluted L.A. park. I decided to lay off the silvers for awhile and seek my first V nickel. Field 2 with factory settings and blocked out mid conductors with 12,13,14 open. My first coin was a '36 buff in nice condition. Second coin was a worn V nickel. Other nickels followed. I was blown away at how fast I got these coins. I did dig a few pulltabs too but not too many since I am getting pretty good at identifying nickels based on how they jump around in the numbers. I think I'll keep running my machine this way for awhile and see how many Buffs/V's I can get over the next several months. Thanks for stopping in and happy hunting.
  23. We have slopes like that in the older L.A. parks and I've taken some of my oldest coins from them. I pretty much avoid them now due to the tendonitis I'm suffering from from all the up & down and down & up with a heavy machine. I love those slopes though.
