  1. Those wheats are in great shape Bryan. It is rare I find one is as good condition as any of those in my area. I found two wheats yesterday that I could only decipher the 'x94x" on one and the "1x5x " on the other. I'm with you though. Yes, wheats are a good indicator for other possible finds, but they are great coins in their own right :). Good post!! :) Tim
  2. Love this post Steve! Thank you for sharing your experience and your settings. Tim.
  3. Fish, it really depends on what type of hunting you want to do. In my opinion, the Vaq covers the bases pretty well. I have owned a Bandido II and still have a Silver Sabre microMax, as well as a compadre. Others like the Mojave or Tejon as well, though I haven't spent much time with those machines. One way to customize your machine would be to get additional coils.. I have the 12x8 and the 5.75 both in widescan and concentric, and there aren't many sites I feel limited in with those tools. Some great information from Monte and others in a previous thread that I started (link below if you haven't read it). Tim.
  4. So true. Ever since I brought home my first gold ring, my coin finds are much less interesting to my wife. haha. Tim.
  5. Thanks Wayfarer. I did check that, and they were connected in LL mode based in the led indicator light. I will probably do a full factory reset on the E600 and re-pair the headphones and see if that helps. Tim
  6. Just connected my new pair of Avantree Audition Pro APTX-LL to my E600 and there was a noticeable lag. Need to do some troubleshooting, I'm sure it is Operator Error. Tim.
  7. In a classic 70's era kitsch craft, my Mom would dip the rings in some sort of colored liquid plastic to make "stained glass-esque) chains. The dip would harden inside the can top rings just about the time we were all high as a kite from the fumes. I can still picture the chain curtain she made hanging in our kitchen window. haha. good times. Tim.
  8. Just received my Avantree Audition Pro's... can't wait to try them out!! Thanks for the tip Wayfarer! Tim.
  9. I tried this (the 39-40 disc) for the same reasons you mentioned Steve. I was getting some broken tone in the mid-30's, but that may not have had anything to do with my disc pattern. I will have to revisit this and do some more test hunting. My preference would be to set a low tone section for that, but I will have to wait for my 800 to arrive to do that. ;). ... as iron is really the only (albeit minor) frustration with the Equinox... it seems to love deep iron. Interesting comment on the sensitivity. I usually run 20-22. I will have to try lowering that a little to see if that helps the iron falses. My standard cherry picking mode is in Park 1, Recovery 3 (max on E600) and IB usually 0, but sometimes 1 (which is 2 on E800). I'm looking forward to being able to add a nickel section as well. :) Tim.
  10. You are right Dean, one of my hunt modes is similar. I run 2-tone, and move the break up to 20 or 22. It isn't as quiet as you are getting by disc-ing the lower numbers, but with T1 set to 1... the copper and above targets just jump out at you. I usually only do this when I am very pressed for time, but I agree, the Equinox is a cherry picker's dream. Tim.
  11. Hey Fish, Depth is a subjective term. My take on Equinox depth is... a qualified yes. It depends on how you define depth. It can be deep in total inches from the coil to an air target if you want it to be... simply lower the recovery speed to 1 and boost the sensitivity to 25, and you can hit a 12" dime. But the subjectivity comes when you are working in the numerous variables we all face in the ground. From mineralization, to iron, to non-ferrous trash, to desirable conductive targets. So how "deep" is a machine that can only recover a desirable target between trash targets no less than 6 inches apart? Steve H. has posted several times about this. And I agree with him. The Equinox's speed lets it go deeper than other slower machines that are blocked by shallow ground undesirables that mask desirable targets. From a sheer depth standpoint, in pristine ground... is the Equinox the deepest? no. But can it be set up to be deep enough? IMHO.. Yes. But to me the power of this machine is the ability to weave its way around masking and find good targets due to it's speed. Yes, the faster recovery limits depth... but that just means you can hunt the same location several times with the same machine... it truly is several machines under one hood. Those are my thoughts. Tim.
  12. Nice Gold Strick... and in your first few hours with the Equinox!! More to come I'm sure. I am digging a bit more iron than with other machines as well... most of that I consider my trying to make an iffy signal a good target... I have been using some of the tips from other users to try and minimize the iron, I just need more time to sharpen those skills. Looking forward to your next report. Tim.
  13. So... One little (gold half eagle), two little (1913 S T2 Buff), three little (Indian head cent??) Indians. Knowing you... you probably already completed the Equinox Indian trifecta.
  14. Nice Bryan! You are definitely giving me hope in finding treasures in our northwest ground. Even crusty as it is after 100 years in the ground... GREAT FIND. I notice you didn't SOS that one ;). Congrats Bryan!! Tim.
  15. I have to admit, my heart started racing a little as I carefully uncovered the mint mark. I think I would have given it a thread all to itself ;)
  16. I don't intend to post a pic of every silver coin I find... especially since I have a feeling that will be a growing number throughout the year with the Equinox. But, I thought I would substantiate the claims that the Equinox separates amazingly well, especially with the 11" stock coil. I decided to try a very well traversed public park that was built in 1910. I decided to run 50 tone, Park 1, sens 22, Recovery 3 (max on the 600), IB 1. I came across a signal that was bouncing all over, from low conductor to high 20's on each sweep. I spent a good 3 or 4 minutes shortening my swing, multiple directions, pinpointing, and back again. I was able to identify at least 3 targets, maybe 4. Two sounded like iron falses. one sounded like a pull tab. And another sounded like a copper/dime signal, but I could only hit that on odd swings between the rest of the targets. Because it was such a mix of tones and id's, I decided to dig it. First I pulled out a bent rust nail at 6" off the side of the plug, and refilled my hole... stood up and swept again. More distinct mid tone to the upper right, and a more defined but still a bit scratchy copper/dime tone to the lower left of the hole I just dug. I went back into my hole, and a bit further off the side of the hole, I dug two more nails at 5", and after sweeping with my pinpointer, refilled the hole again. I decided to dig the mid tone, and used the Equinox to pinpoint it. I popped a random piece of aluminum at about 3 inches, and refilled my hole again. As I gave the area one last sweep with my coil, a pure and solid high tone emerged... 25 - 29 id. at about 7 inches, under the area I pulled the nails... 1916-S merc. This machine is amazing. Tim.
