  1. Those wheats are in great shape Bryan.  It is rare I find one is as good condition as any of those in my area.  I found two wheats yesterday that I could only decipher the 'x94x" on one and the "1x5x " on the other.  I'm with you though.  Yes, wheats are a good indicator for other possible finds, but they are great coins in their own right :).  Good post!!  :) Tim

I was in Park2, stock settings otherwise when I got my deep old coins, but I wish I'd at least checked some of the signals in Park1 or heck even Field1/2 just to see how the search modes differed.

I'm in the same boat CC.  I get so excited hearing a nice mellow repeatable deep tone, that I dig into the ground before testing in other modes.  I am using your note as a reminder to check all the parks and fields on the next few potential old targets.  :)  My finds have mostly been in Park 1...  I feel like I am in the minority with all the reports of finds in Park 2 and Field 2.  ;)  Tim.

  3. Fish, it really depends on what type of hunting you want to do.  In my opinion, the Vaq covers the bases pretty well.  I have owned a Bandido II and still have a Silver Sabre microMax, as well as a compadre.  Others like the Mojave or Tejon as well, though I haven't spent much time with those machines.  One way to customize your machine would be to get additional coils.. I have the 12x8 and the 5.75 both in widescan and concentric, and there aren't many sites I feel limited in with those tools.

Some great information from Monte and others in a previous thread that I started (link below if you haven't read it).

There shouldn't be any noticeable lag.  You need to make sure it is connected in LL mode by looking at the LED on the headphones after you make the connection.  If it doesn't connect in LL mode, then you need to reset the headphones and try again.  Once you get them to connect in LL mode, then don't fully reset the phones, just turn them off and then next time you connect them, they should quickly connect in LL mode.  It was a little tricky the first time I set them up, but since getting them to work properly the first time, I haven't had any more difficulty.

This is true of any LL headphones and why you should get a model that has an LED indicator (like the Audition Pros) to verify they are indeed connected in LL mode.

Thanks Wayfarer.  I did check that, and they were connected in LL mode based in the led indicator light.  I will probably do a full factory reset on the E600 and re-pair the headphones and see if that helps.  Tim

  5. In a classic 70's era kitsch craft, my Mom would dip the rings in some sort of colored liquid plastic to make "stained glass-esque) chains.  The dip would harden inside the can top rings just about the time we were all high as a kite from the fumes.   I can still picture the chain curtain she made hanging in our kitchen window.  haha.  good times. Tim.

Minelab was smart in making the Equinox compatible with a large number of Bluetooth low latency headphones.

Here are my Avantree Audition Pro's, $59 with free shipping, that I got Friday.  40 ms aptx low latency that pairs up perfectly to the Equinox and really work great. I can't perceive any audio lag all.  Of course, they will run out of juice at the most inconvenient time, hence the search for a wired backup.

Just received my Avantree Audition Pro's... can't wait to try them out!!  Thanks for the tip Wayfarer!  Tim.

I have been half tempted to either block 39 and 40 or set them as a low tone ferrous.

I tried this (the 39-40 disc) for the same reasons you mentioned Steve.  I was getting some broken tone in the mid-30's, but that may not have had anything to do with my disc pattern.  I will have to revisit this and do some more test hunting.  My preference would be to set a low tone section for that, but I will have to wait for my 800 to arrive to do that. ;). ... as iron is really the only (albeit minor) frustration with the Equinox... it seems to love deep iron.

Interesting comment on the sensitivity.  I usually run 20-22.  I will have to try lowering that a little to see if that helps the iron falses.  My standard cherry picking mode is in Park 1, Recovery 3 (max on E600) and IB usually 0, but sometimes 1 (which is 2 on E800).  I'm looking forward to being able to add a nickel section as well.  :)

I know one thing for sure. The sign of a successful advertising campaign is how long people talk about it. The obsolete thing was intentially provocative for this reason. Many people do not really understand the meaning of the word obsolete, which has helped. The fact that a half a year later people are still discussing the ad would make it an extremely successful ad, no matter what people think of the subject matter. Ironically every time somebody complains about the ad they are actually doing the advertisers bidding!

Nice work! It's a fun machine.

I stated before that I've yet to be surprised by an iffy target being something good. You can tell when there is a good target surrounded by junk due to the machine's incredible recovery speed and laser beam separation. So far, if I get good tones from 90* and stable numbers (just a couple digit bounce) it's a target worthy of a dig. If the numbers bounce around a lot and I'm unable to get a "lock" or only good tones from just direction and a grunt from the other...it's junk every time.

I did something kinda fun the other day. I only had a very short time to hunt so I decided to cherry pick only the higher tones. So I disc"ed everything out below 22. I haven't ever dug a IHP here and didn't want to hear zinc. Wow, talk about quiet! I went home with a BIG handful of copper pennies, dimes, and quarters. No silver, unfortunately. It is amazing how many good targets you can dig when you don't waste time chasing the bad! You can cover so much ground with this machine due to it's speed. It's a cherry picking monster.

You are right Dean, one of my hunt modes is similar.  I run 2-tone, and move the break up to 20 or 22.  It isn't as quiet as you are getting by disc-ing the lower numbers, but with T1 set to 1... the copper and above targets just jump out at you.  I usually only do this when I am very pressed for time, but I agree, the Equinox is a cherry picker's dream. 10. Hey Fish,

Depth is a subjective term.  My take on Equinox depth is...  a qualified yes.  It depends on how you define depth.

It can be deep in total inches from the coil to an air target if you want it to be... simply lower the recovery speed to 1 and boost the sensitivity to 25, and you can hit a 12" dime.

But the subjectivity comes when you are working in the numerous variables we all face in the ground.  From mineralization, to iron, to non-ferrous trash, to desirable conductive targets.  So how "deep" is a machine that can only recover a desirable target between trash targets no less than 6 inches apart?  Steve H. has posted several times about this.  And I agree with him.  The Equinox's speed lets it go deeper than other slower machines that are blocked by shallow ground undesirables that mask desirable targets.

From a sheer depth standpoint, in pristine ground... is the Equinox the deepest?  no.  But can it be set up to be deep enough?  IMHO.. Yes.  But to me the power of this machine is the ability to weave its way around masking and find good targets due to it's speed.  Yes, the faster recovery limits depth... but that just means you can hunt the same location several times with the same machine... it truly is several machines under one hood.

    Those are my thoughts.

  11. Nice Gold Strick... and in your first few hours with the Equinox!!  More to come I'm sure.  I am digging a bit more iron than with other machines as well... most of that I consider my trying to make an iffy signal a good target... I have been using some of the tips from other users to try and minimize the iron, I just need more time to sharpen those skills.  Looking forward to your next report.  Tim.

Yesterday I pulled a 1906 V and better yet a 1913 S Type 2 Buffalo.. This is my most rare Nickel to date..

So... One little (gold half eagle), two little (1913 S T2 Buff), three little (Indian head cent??) Indians.  Knowing you... you probably already completed the Equinox Indian trifecta.
