  1. No Ron, that is not what I meant. I know how it feels to dig gold and silver coins. There is nothing like it. It is the ultimate feeling. I am happy for him and hope it is not his last "find of a lifetime". But I cringed every time he stuck that, what shall I call it, a small shovel, in the ground!!! Especially after I saw how close he was to the coins. What if one of those $20 gold coins were a 1866S in EF condition and you hit it? That date is a possibility. There goes a $15,000 coin. I'm not sure what having a new machine has to do with it? Couldn't anyone double check the locations before digging? Especially when you could see the danger of hitting a valuable coin.... But, in the excitement, maybe nobody saw the danger. In any case, that was a great video. The only thing that could have made it better would be if there had been another 100 coins. (maybe there was?)
  2. The GB2 will hear my cell phone too. I always like to carry a phone in case of emergencies so I drop it in my backpack. No problems there.
  3. Nice video and good, good coins. Those only come around once in a while. I must say though, several of those coins were dug up ON THE EDGE OF THE HOLE!!! (One even outside the hole) Better pinpointing is in order.
  4. Many of the ones that never score very often are the ones that seem to give up if they don't find anything in the first fifteen minutes.....
  5. Ray, Really nice nugget. They way you describe the site, I would have expected typical "pocket" gold. Really rough. But this is a well worn piece. More like placer gold. This was "placer pocket"? More like high channel?
  6. Where's the option for "none" I wouldn't expect many on this forum to "leach" as it is primarily a detecting forum.
  7. I see you can Pre-order on Kellyco...... (not saying that is the place to order) See complete description there too. I don't know, but it appears that their main feature(as they state) is that it is waterproof to 10'
  8. Every piece of quartz that makes a hint of a noise I bring home and crush. There is almost always gold in them.
  9. I never met him but I hope he's looking down on the courts when the final decision is made. R.I.P.
  10. Something you don't see mentioned is the original MineLab Sovereign. I still use one for coins. A dinosaur but I like it. Works great on the beach too.
  11. I don't see it on the Garrett site yet.... Wonder when and at what cost?
  12. There used to be some good "notch" detectors. Is that the same principle that the newer ones use?
  13. More than you want to read on HF..... VERY DANGEROUS! hydrofluoricacid.pdf
  14. My sons keep asking when I am going to take the Electroscope out and look for gold. I have never tried. I guess I should.....
  15. Steve, Your last sentence is probably correct. The Electroscope that I bought 20? years ago functions for me whether it is on or not. Battery or no battery. I have to tell a short story..... Years ago, a new neighbor had heard that I had "witched" my well and asked if I would try for him. So, I told him "no guarantees". He was in an area that had little water. I located where several small feeders came together and called him out to look at where it was. Again, I told him "no guarantees". He said "I feel pretty good now" and scratched the ground about 6" from my marker. There appeared a small 1" square wooden hub that had been driven in the ground, As it turned out, he had called an elderly lady that was well known for "witching water" and had her do it too. That was wooden hub was her mark! He did get several gallons per minute which was good for the area....
  16. I can find a buried waterline with a couple bent rods .... Just like many, many others... how can that be explained??? I do have an Electroscope and have found coins with ONLY it... no detector. I have followed "something" for hundreds of feet only to have a quartz vein come right out of the ground on my line... Why? Can I find something someone has hidden for me to find? Probably not.
  17. Looking forward to the complete site. Had trouble getting some of it to load? Took A LONG TIME to load up and some of the pictures never finished after 8-10 minutes. Don't usually have a problem. Might be on my side? I don't know
  18. My son in Nome bought one and is looking at software to do ground imaging. He said he can't legally use it now? Or, can't use it until next year?
  19. This is a site that I've seen posted on other forums in the past: http://www.mcnichols.com/viewer.htm
  20. Steve, I have never had ground go from good to bad like you mentioned in your first post. Was that with a PI or VLF or both? If it was with a PI, I probably haven't used one enough to experience it.
  21. All the problems I've had has been with NEW detectors. From defective coils to detectors the do not function correctly. I sold Tesoro and Minelab in the 90's and don't remember any problems then. Only in the last 15 years. Warranties covered everything, no problems.
  22. I dig all the nails I can stand. Especially in the mine tailings area. Those old wooden sluice boxes were nailed together and gold nuggets worked their way into the cracks. Nails mean gold to me.
  23. It's good to know these new things about a PI .... Certainly different than a VLF. Here's those pics of the "disappearing" signal:
  24. Thanks Mike. Yes, we did get quite a bit of rain. Everything was really running this am.
  25. In the mean time, here's one from earlier in the week..... about the same size..
