It's not that Koss headphones are not good.  Those are just "bottom of the line"

When I was a dealer in the 90's,  headphones that retailed for $30 cost me $3.95 because I only ordered them by the dozen.

Those Koss ur30 headphones retail for $14 so guess what they cost to make .......

Quality has a lot to do with cost.

I do use Koss but mine cost about $130  and I think they are worth it.

The first gold machine I got was the V/Sat.  I used it for 2 years and found one small nugget.

I then got a Gold Bug 2 and within 15 minutes I found a 70 grain nugget!  They just rolled in after that.

There is hardly a day that I take the GB 2 out that I don't find something.

I'm not saying you can't find gold with it. It's just that you need a change like I did.

Just to clarify El Dorado's post, you file assessment work papers with the county and BLM when you file for small miners exemption, but not when you pay the maintenance fee.

I guess the question would be, how did you introduce water below the punch plate without introducing any material? The only answer I can come up with is you are not running material on a slick plate prior to the punch plate?  Only using the punch plate as sort of a classifier to put material on.....

For the punch plate to function, the material(and water) has to run over the punch plate.

I've found that the iron discrimination on the ATX is very reliable on surface trash.

But, as Steve said, trash can mask good things....

True you can highbank but you must be 300' away from the stream.  No motorized equipment within 300' for the purpose of recovering minerals. That includes pumps.

Never felt intimidated by Minelab .  I find "some" gold about every other day just care not to post it.

JD, that BS looks about like mine....   I do have 24" of slickplate prior to punchplate/V mat(Yes, it is V mat, not U plate)

I think there is just too much BS and it is overwhelming the V mat.

The distance between the punchplate and V mat is twice the diameter of the punchplate(or, 3/8")

I'm at the drawing board now... The black sands would not clear out from under the punchplate. No matter how slow I fed it. I had plenty of water in the box and good slope.  It was like there wasn't enough water getting through the punchplate.

I may just run the v mat with no punchplate... have to sleep on it.

My original intent with the LeTrap was to make a highbanker out of it until the crazies in California banned motorized equipment. I thought about gravity flow but that really limits use.

This material is along edge of existing flow but still within floodplain.   Removing cobbles leaves maybe 3 to 6 inches of material on bedrock that is rich in black sands and gold.  So much black sands that if I put a strip of magnets across the header, it would probably be loaded up with a couple shovels of material.

I'll probably classify 3 or 4 buckets before I feed it so I can keep a constant feed.

I'll probably still lose a lot of the really fine gold but  I'll see...

That video doesn't say much except don't let your riffles load up!  I've see it before.

You're right, the LeTrap is a great Au catcher as is.  My problem is that there is LOTS of black sands. I'm hoping the fine gold will work its way into the ribbed mat and hold there.

Mods to try to catch some fine gold... 

Cut box down to 3', added ribbed mat and punchplate.  built a new inlet.

Will try it out this weekend.....
