  1. Awesome gold coins and sheet. Great relics Steve. And WOW! Your Celtic gold is AMAZING! Good for you!
  2. That's what I was going to say Steve. Well, the part about listening for a good signal THEN using the screen. This has been a topic in detecting since visual meters/id have been an option, still, for some reason I never really thought about doing an experiment. I want to now though... cover my screen for like and hour and see how it goes! Then hunt silently with screen for a while and see how that goes. For fun. I think audio only will be fun. Visual only will be frustrating, and as Steve said, probably dangerous!
  3. 2010 Borrowed bounty hunter, immediately got an ACE 250, found clad for 6 months. fazed out on detecting for a couple years. 2014 got an MXT pro to find nuggets, maybe hunt relics. I found one nugget, then spent 1000's of hours relic hunting and loving every minute of it! Still want to find some more nuggets! ? Edit: I may get a Deus someday, or AT pro at least, change it up a bit.
  4. Crazy! I am not familiar with that website or the country or claims... is he using your photos to sell HIS claims?(100% pathetic) OR Is he actually selling claims that aren't even HIS?(200% pathetic) That sux man. Especially if he does like the California claim sellers and says "feel free to go sample the claim before it sells"...
  5. DANG! The XP Deus has been temping me with it's ability to seperate good items in TRASHY location better than about ANY machine out there! It was seeming like it was probably the BEST machine for me to get to find quality stuff in my HUNTED OUT, TRASHY locations. If the SAME DETECTOR is now possibly ALSO one of the better VLF gold detectors available, my goodness, might be time to sell a kidney! ?? 2 pounds and standard wireless is sweet too! I'm not really in the market for a new machine, but DANG I want a DEUS! ?
  6. Poor dude... "excited, but kinda disappointed, thought it was gonna be huge" only 20 grams! ?
  7. First photo is a beauty for sure. but those in field pics are what gives me butterflies! Dirty hands, dirty pants, green grass... I can imagine that being me taking that picture some day! ?
  8. Sweet! I never really searched for, and definitely never seen hat like that, I'm going to look into it! I may also check out some small supported ear speaker as you and Steve have shared.
  9. I have to figure out how to customize my hat to work with my headphones. I am a religious straw hat wearer, as I'm virtually albino ?. But I haven't found a way to work around the headphones... especially trying to get it all to stay put on my head for any amount of time. Yes, I switch to a ball cap for detecting. I'm thinking I can cut a couple holes and rig my phones into a straw wide brim.
  10. PCGS has the Photograde and Price Guide iPhone apps also. I've got the apps, I just need to find more coins so I can use them! ?
  11. Sweet! Some of those things are in great shape! I never imagined that would be a main objective for treasure hunting. Thanks for sharing!
  12. Man, what would you guys do if they didn't have the "over size" flags on the grille! ? Sweet pics of some insane equipment!
  13. I used a tiny shallow dish crucible from http://www.makeyourowngoldbars.com/2-58-crucible-dish-tong-set-gold-recovery-melting-silver-copper-lead I feel like a cheap ass buying the least expensive product they sell ?. BUT, i saw them at the gold show in Sonora a couple years back... I was not planning on or looking for melting supplies, I let $20 burn a hole in my pocket and I just couldn't help get the cruicible and a little anhydrous borax. Then I put a little pile of fine gold in the cup and used a "plumbers" MAPP gas torch for a few minutes. Turned out a 7.6 gram button. I'm not sure if it's possible or feasible to "smelt"(?) gold and purify it on that small of a scale of which I was operating. I didn't have any precious metal separation, but there was some dirt and black sand in the fine gold that I started with, that got separated off. Edit: I'm keeping that little thing... Coota, your bars are EPIC! ?
  14. 665 mercs, 6 rosies! I believe he found them in a tin can. Bad pic, but this is what he dug up right here... *edit* They have a video on Facebook too... it's fairly poor quality also, but pretty exciting! (some curse words ;) Jimi Hampton's post on facebook group page (It's a public group so hopefully it's a public video!? : "Sonora ca.metal detector enthusiast"
  15. Nutz! I was gonna say poor bird, probably get his feet tore up. Nope, looks like it's wearing some heavy duty gloves!
  16. Quartz crystal chunk? Should look really sweet if most, even some, of those are crystals protruding off!
  17. Got out for a couple hours today. 1893 s Barber dime, slightly-semi-rare, has xf45+ detail if it weren't for the environment damage. My oldest Chinese coin 1662-1722 Sheng Tsu reign. and my favorite of the day, the heart boot plate, Wild West prostitutes' business card of sorts :)
  18. 13" Detech ultimate for MXT Koss 100ohm headphones Orange TRX replacement shell Local history book.
  19. NICE nugget! https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=157108184330085&tsid=0.8340215450152755&source=typeahead Hope the link works and most can access Facebook. I'm not one of the smart folks who can copy/convert/move the video somewhere else ;) if you can't get the video... It's an 18 ounce nugget, found by Oscar. Under a boulder on bedrock in Woods Creek, Jamestown, CA! I met Oscar a couple years back. I was prospecting Woods Creek actually, and this scrubby dude rides up on a mountain bike. No prospecting equipment, just one hell of a motor... Mouth :) He told me about his secret spot. He took his buddies there with all their gear... All he used was a screwdriver & tablespoon. He said he got more gold than they did?!? He proceeded to tell me about "xx" nugget from here, "xxx" nugget from there... Seemed like some pretty big fish stories from some "supposed prospector" riding by on a bike! so, I'm not saying all those stories were true, but this one sure seems to be!!! And he never told any stories this crazy.... Photos from same Facebook page for those that don't Facebook. Groucho the dog giving the ole miners test :)
  20. I'm getting anxiety just thinking about being on that project!!! That's so cool! It's funny... If they KNEW it was there, it would still be fun. But, the fact that many folks say it's NOT there just adds to the anticipation! It's all about the hunt!!!
  21. Always good to see folks finding gold! Something extra cool when the detectorprospectormaster S.H. scores some purdy yella ! Sweet chunk too! That center fanning/arcing, flat, "matrix" plane... The shiny part in the first pic, is a spectacular display of a magical metal!
  22. Cool Tvan! Thanks Jim! Fortunately? My old man is an astronomy nerd :)! We have gotten up many a time at 2:30am to see meteor showers. This year's Perseid is supposed to be a "outburst" shower, so like up to 150-200/hour vs the 80/hour normally. To see anywhere close to that many per/hour, it needs to be DARK, and clear of clouds/smoke etc. I was out smoking last night, sitting near my bright porch light, so I could only see the brightest meteors. I only saw 5 in 2 hours, but they were blazin', long and bright! Also I was out there 10:30pm-12:30am, so the moon was still out, and the Perseid constellation (the general direction from which they enter our atmosphere) was still low on the NE horizon. 2:30-4:30am the moon will be down, and the "origin" of the meteors higher to the NNE. I've seen hundreds of meteors in my years, all 5 last night were pretty decent! So last night was the "peak", but they'll continue for a couple more days. Problem is the waxing moon is getting brighter and staying up later. Get out there tomorrow morning to watch earth's force field protect us from speeding space rocks! Of course, it's cool when a few get through on occasion, they make trippy collectibles for earthlings ??!
  23. If that was a tiny IRREGULAR nugget, or link from a miner's chain, that would be a COOL piece of gold. It's kinda crazy how mesmerizing and badass that tiny little ting is though, with the story behind it! :) What a pretty piece of gold!!!
