  1. I use 50 tones, 6" coil, Field 1 settings and I have been pounding this one particular old park. My numbers have never gone above I'd say around 28 or so but mostly 8 to 23 and ive been digging up rings, pendants, silver coins, clad, and bottle tops and pull tabs. Thats one thing I've never liked about the NOX is i always feel like I cant hear or see a lot of difference between different targets. Thats why Ive just resorted to digging everything. Ive been amazed at how many rings and things Ive dug up that I didnt realise was such a good signal. Im thinking ground mineralization might be having a big affect on how the detector works
  2. Ive sometimes had that happen. Ive also had seemingly same thing happen and i keep searching the soil Idug very slowly and I will suddenly come across a tiny bent nail or tiny piece of foil. Sometimes a tiny piece of foil will set the detector off when in the ground but not when out of the ground unless my pinpointer actually touches it. Thats all I can say about it. No idea why it would be an impression of a dime though
  3. The one issue ive had with the NOX is in my opinion is everything sounds and looks close to the same. Ive been digging pull tabs, beer tops and coins all day and they are all pretty darn close in numbers. But maybe im remembering the deus differently. I havnt used the deus since getting the NOX. But I am using Field 1 for better sensitivity with the small 6 inch coil. even though its a trashy park.
  4. Ive read it works good on gold but with my work schedule I never find the time to get out to the mountains and try it. Hope to soon though.
  5. went back to same spot today and found another ring and a gold rose pin, still have to test and see if its silver or white gold but think its silver
  6. Thanks, and I see your a fellow HAM too lol WU6Z
  7. fact is Ive found good finds in the past in the exact same paths I've walked before. But I either was swinging differently or just didn't quite hear the signal the same previously. Thats why guys find stuff behind other detectors later. you could walk over a good target 20 times and various factors affect whether you picked it up that day or not.
  8. I have a couple particularly old schools I hit all the time. Lots and lots of trash but I occasionally will sift out a signal and have picked up a gold nugget mens ring and a 1943 silver nickel. I used to be very impatient with cluttered school yards full of junk but now I just look at it as slowly cleaning it up so that every time I go there, the easier it gets to pick out good targets. It s a long term strategy instead of expecting to get all the goods in one try lol
  9. I have been digging nothing but trash most of the summer and modern clad coins. Been a frustrating season. But I finally hit a small honey pot of an area. We have a historic park and residence thats been used for almost 200 years. and its several acres. I know that literally hundreds of detectorists have been combing this park for decades, they say theres nothing left there. Well, I beg to differ. I have started probing into the least likely areas that most detectorists wouldn't venture into and it paid off the first day. I spent an hour digging stuff just along a 50 foot strip from the car, one modern coin, one really old pull tab etc every 2 feet until I flipped one plug to find 4 coins! 1907 Barber quarter, 1923 Mercury dime, a buffalo nickel(no date), and a 1919 wheatie. continued to dig clad quarters and pennys every 2 feet then a diamond ring, says 18k in the band. Then to top it off dug up this old token from a billiards room, did some research and it was a members only billiards room that ended in the 1920's in town. This one 50 foot strip of grass wore me out lol but I guarantee I will be back next weekend. Even the modern clad was all from the 60's and 70's so thats promising. And some might disagree but as long as I'm digging super old 1960's pull tabs that is still promising to me this area isn't over hunted yet.
  10. A quick look on Amazon came up with these but they are not quick release but I used to be into cycling and building light weight bikes and I remember them being available somewhere. Maybe i'm wrong https://www.amazon.com/ICAN-Carbon-34-9mm-31-8mm-31-6mm/dp/B07BQZMDKZ/ref=pd_sim_b2b_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07BQZMDKZ&pd_rd_r=db8c78c6-db9b-11e8-8c51-e18d3cd03d51&pd_rd_w=jU8Cb&pd_rd_wg=dvrSk&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=0b6f8745-66e2-4766-8b44-154b13ee4892&pf_rd_r=5RV86MS9X2KZ8AHR0N4Z&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&refRID=5RV86MS9X2KZ8AHR0N4Z
  11. they make those cam locks in carbn fiber. Why not use one of those?
  12. Thats my point though. Why does silver not even ring a high number on the NOX? Whats the point of the NOX if it doesnt discriminate at all it seems like. Its just iron or not iron
  13. Finally found my first silver with the NOX 800 it was a 1942 S quarter about 6 or 7 inches. What I think is weird is it rang up as a 27 or 28 which is lower than a clad quarter rings. A clad usually is a solid 29 or 30. Why would that be? Why wouldn't silver ring higher than clad? This is exactly what has perplexed me using the NOX over my Deus for example. I don't understand discrimination on this thing. I was using park 1 since everywhere in town here is so full of trash. But I didnt get any other signals in this spot after I dug it up and refilled the hole
  14. My experience with the NOX is you have to dig everything. More so than any other detector I've used. I know Steve and other people talk about thats always been an issue with most detectors but I've never been fooled with the Deus or the like. If it was ringing up iron it was iron. So far everything I dig with the NOX that is low tone its mixup of what you might actually dig
  15. I am using the NOX exclusively since I got it. I will be using the NOX today, on my way out to a new site today, I keep plugging away and trying new things. Guess my point is just I have not seen anything special with the NOX yet other than being waterproof. But I have not given up yet. Hoping something will click with me at some point. I do look at the TID but also listen to the tones. Anything that is a consistent repeatable tone I dig
  16. I use 5 tones on both. I use the stock coil on the Deus. I used the HF coils for a while but I found in town with trash the HF coils just amplify the trash and nails to higher numbers. The HF coils are useful out in a field to pick up tiny bits but not useful in town parks. Too sensitive
  17. One of my biggest issues with the NOX. I've never seen a negative number. All nails seem to ring up in the teens and 20's. Gold rings and such sound exactly the same as all the trash in my tests. I realise bottle caps and foil are always gonna be a problem. Quarters are the only thing so far that gives a good tone
  18. I have both a Deus and a NOX 800, been using just the NOX for the past couple months trying to learn it and get used to it. I just feel like the TDI numbers and tones are so compressed and I cant tell any difference between pennys and gold rings from trash. I could easily tell the difference on the DEUS. I cant seem to see any difference with the multi frequency on the NOX when I compare targets that tell me its detecting better or deeper at all? I've been reading peoples posts like crazy trying to see how it is helping with the multi on the nox
  19. Yea, after all the buildup I'm not very impressed with the equinox, seems to just be a beep/dig machine. My Deus can discriminate so much better
  20. SO I took my NOX 800 to the beach for first time. Ran in Beach 1 and Beach 2 for about an hour each and found one quarter lol Couldnt believe there was not at least some trash since this is literally 50 yards from a casino and heavily trafficked. Dead quiet the whole time, scanning my boots occasionally to make sure it was still detecting lol This beach is covered in leftover fire pits that are used by people on a weekly basis. I find it hard to believe there is not at least trash out there? Out of curiosity switched to gold mode to see what it would do in the dry sand several feet up from the wet line. It was non stop sqeaking. tried noise cancel and ground balance, still non stop noises, manually put ground balance to zero and same thing. Is it impossible to use gold mode in the dry sand? Am I missing something?
  21. Point is, maybe make sure you turn the detector on first , then the headphones. If you did a factory reset that means you'll need to actually pair the headphone again. After they are paired make sure you always turn them on in the right order.
  22. Not exactly the same problem but a headphone problem I had and figured out. First couple times out I turned my headphones on then turned the detector on. After a few seconds it showed connected but did not hear any audio, VDI numbers on screen and headphone symbol showing connected. Turned everything off, this time I turned the detector on first before the headphones and it connected and worked perfectly. I proved this by doing it both ways 3 times and everytime I turned the headphone on before the detector it would show connected but no actual audio.
  23. You will love it. I think the shovel is as good or better than the $100 and $150 shovels at the metal detecting stores Ive tried. That new root slayer trowel has been awesome. I tried one of their regular garden trowels and it broke trying to pry up a rock but this one is made differently and is much stronger. But they do have a lifetime warranty too though. I just wish they had the sheath for the trowel available, they dont yet. I ordered a wide leather tool pouch on amazon im gonna see if the trowel fits in it. Ill let you know
  24. I spent today at the oldest high school in this big city. I took peoples recommendations and stuck to Park 1, GB, and Noise cancel. lowered the sensitivity down to about 18 and was able to hunt with a little less chatter. Still a lot of random signals but was able to find a few modern clad. Maybe there is just nothing here but the only thing I have found under about 4 or 5 inches is a large rusty pipe lol of course that sounded like a coin signal. The jury is still out but so far Im not seeing anything my Deus doesn't do just as well. Im not knocking it, I still have to put more hours on it, just cant wait to see this thing show me it works any better than the Deus after how long I waited for it lol
  25. All good info, Gonna go back out today and try some of these things. One other question, I have never seen a negative number come up yet. Although I know these parks have lots of old iron. Should I just dig all the low numbers too like 1 and 2? Are gold rings gonna be in that range? That seems to be what Im reading that gold is gonna always be in that iron range. I found a couple gold rings a couple weeks ago with my Deus in this same park
