  1. Thanks Steve, for one, I rarely get to go to a real gold field. More just poking around tailings of some various abandoned mines in the mountains here in Oregon. But occasionally also picking around in bedrock areas on rivers. So most of the time I'm coin or relic hunting but I did want to have a decent machine I can use when the occasion arises. The fact that I don't get to spend hours every week nugget detecting I like the fact that the GM seems to be simple to setup and go and not have to spend hours tweaking settings and such. That said, from your post, I think I'm also gonna lean toward the waterproofness of the GM 1000 as the deciding factor. I like that I don't have to worry about it when Im around the water.

I was very confused researching the Gold Bug models as there seems to be so many different model years and versions. Think I'll order a Gold Monster today.

    Thanks guys

Where do you live?  If you buy local you may have to pay the sales tax but you get training.  If you can travel you can buy from a dealer and then drive to their state for training if $ savings makes a difference to you.

Training is MORE IMPORTANT than sales tax free.

I'm in Oregon. I've never heard of any classes around here?

  3. So, I was prospecting some bedrock along the river today with the 9" round HF coil. I was trying to use the gold field program but man it was noisy on those black sand rocks constantly. I switched to some other programs like HOT for awhile and got a good hit. Dug out the crack and found a lead fishing buckshot.

Figured it was a perfect opportunity to test some programs. I reburied it about 3 inches deep. Strangely what I found was on the Gold Field program I could not tell any difference in sound from the host rock. I Never would have dug it. Switched to a modified HOT program I have saved and it rang nice and loud with no sound from the rocks.  What am I missing? Will the elliptical be any better when it gets here? have one on order still.

Is there some tweaking I need to do on the Gold Field? Like notching out the rocks? I forgot to try that while I was out there, started raining on us

  4. That video makes me think, I forgot to go back and check the other day. I was just using the stock coil and occasional would come across an obviously large piece of iron which rings up in the high 90's because its so big. You can usually tell its large iron because of how large an area it detects it.

Wonder if using the HF coil at 74khz would distinguish the large iron any differently? still just have to judge by the size of area its picking it up?

  5. So frustrated. Already have the 9 round HF coil (ordered both round and elliptical at same time) but been waiting on backorder for the elliptical for 2 weeks, second box finally came and they accidently sent me a second 9 round! so gotta send it back and wait for the elliptical again.ughhh

  6. Here in Oregon it's nice crystal clear water and rarely any kind of vegetation just gravel and no crocodiles lol Heck even snakes are almost non existent here in Western Oregon. But these swim holes not only have jewelry from the summer swimmers but are also in gold country in the mountains so could be some gold down there too

I have read about all these detectors before was just curious to see if one was significantly better than the others but sounds like it just comes down to price and preference.

I also have to get some kind of Hookah setup for diving in the river. I don't know how long it will take me to buy all this stuff lol

  7. I recently discovered these stick on permanent charge clip bases and I am loving it. I wondering now why XP didn't do this in the first place! Just have a direct USB port right there. So much easier to deal with all the time especially with multiple coils. If it was just molded into the coil it would be even better. But so far this seems to be working great for me.

I have only found this one guy in Ukraine selling them on ebay.

  8. SO took the Deus out for the first time with the HF coil to get a feel for it. It is surprisingly sensitive, I was picking up the tiniest lead split shot out of crevices and they were screamin!  Still havn't found gold but it's promising.. I think the hardest part is finding the right locations (that are accessible anyway) so many miles of known gold country is claimed and off limits

I have always done relic and coin hunting, gold is somewhat new to me. Still trying to find that first nugget.

  9. You might carry a Deus with HF coil cuz you can carry just the coil and lower shaft alone while sitting and scan cracks as you dig. I saw someone on a youtube video doing that. Thats the great thing about the deus. put remote in your pocket and just hold the coil alone, perfect for scanning in tunnels etc too

  10. I don't understand how people are taking detectors out into the wilderness in the vehicles without a case. It would be broken in a week for me without it. I drop the tailgate. get out the detector, when I'm done I put it back in case, plug the USB cables into everything and slide the case back into the truck until the next time I use it. I never have to even think about charging and it doesnt get crushed by the 50 pound buckets of pay dirt Im taking home with me too that are moving around back there.

I've got to say you got it all together and looking good. For myself I go with the soft gun case. I drive a van and always out of the weather and locked up.

I did have the Deus but sold it. It's a great detector but I just didn't like having to make sure all was charged before I went out to hunt. That's just one thing I like about my MX Sport not having to worry about that as long I got another power pack.

Yea I know it is unusal with the deus having everything to charge. But alot of detectors you have battery packs you have to charge. I find its not reallly that bad and especially with this case setup the only thing I ever have to charge is the power pack after it has charged all the deus components 6 or 7 times while transporting. I dont even have to think about charging.

The bed of my truck has a locking cover on it too but I put all my detectors in hard cases still because I keep them and my sluice and my work tools locked in the truck all the time so Im prepared. A Lot of junk rolling around back there lol
