  1. My Impulse AQ has been nothing but a problem since I've had it. Can anyone tell me the best way to go about requesting a refund on my machine w/ 12 and 8 inch coils.
  2. UPDATE: Spent this morning working with Jim Pugh here in Pensacola. He had a chance to use my machine and I used his. I was able to used his with no problem. We tried something on my machine that he had already done to his. We routed the coil wire (leaving a little for coil movement) in a straight line, and tightly wrapped with velcro, along the top of the shaft, for about 15 inches. The remaining coil wire was wrapped around the upper part of the shaft as usual. This seemed to solve the problem when sweeping the coil in the water. I was able to sweep the coil in the all metal mode without all the extra noise. I don't know if maybe I was getting movement in the coil wire when sweeping the coil or what, but it seems to be working a lot better now. Thanks Jim I really appreciate all your help.
  3. As far as hunting wet sand it does fine with both the old coil and the new coil. I will ttry next time in the water I'll test it with only the coil in the water.
  4. I personally do not want to return my machine. I just want to help work out the bugs and have a machine i can use in all the modes. I'll wait for the 8 inch coil to see if it improves the way it works here. The Aq is a great machine in many situations I'm going to keep mine.
  5. My AQ is no where near that stable in neck deep water. Audio is constantly changing up and down. If mine was as stable as this video I would have no problem.
  6. I have been detecting many years, My coil sweep is always parallel to the ground. The bottom here is not perfectly smooth. lots of ripples and dips as you are hunting. I get stability in volcanic sand mode and I am able to vary the pulse delay across the full range. It is just not stable enough in the other modes. You are comparing apples to oranges. Get out in neck deep water and try it. It acts different than on the beach or shallow water.
  7. I have a lot of deep sand here, but when you vary the coil height off the bottom even a little bit is goes full audio. This is on 2 different machines here. I have tried both machines and they act the same here.
  8. The video's did not help my situation at all. I'm out in the water up to my neck. In all metal mode, max pulse delay, ats 9-10, Sensitivity 3 - When I sweep the coil there is no way I could recognize a signal unless it was shallow. I'm used to a little chatter and having a signal break through the chatter, but the audio in all metal, when sweeping the coil, is changing so much there is no way I could recognize a weak to medium signal. Just the fact that I have to reduce my sensitivity so low in conjunction with an ATS setting of 9 or 10, I'm losing all the advantages of the Impulse AQ. I still have hope that a smaller coil will help with this problem. until I can lay my hands on the 8 inch coil, I will continue using the machine in the volcanic sand mode where I can achieve a little stability. I will be doing some target testing on gold and platinum rings and other common targets to see what kind of depth to expect in that mode. My machine is not the only machine acting this way. There is another machine here in Pensacola acting this way and 2 machines in Hawaii that are having problems. I am not sure if the problem is salinity or something else, but I have no problems with using my Whites Dual Field or my Eric Foster Goldquest Aquasearch V2 here in Pensacola.
  9. Thanks Jim. How do you think a smaller coil would do in heavy salt ? I would love to see a coil around 9.5 inches providing the 8 inch coil provides a lot of improvement.
  10. Yes, According to what I read. The 11.5 setting was actually a last minute change to 15uS. Because of this last minute change, I'm assuming they knew a problem existed for working submerged in salt water. Out of the water on the wet sand beach, this machine is great. Working here in Pensacola, in the water, A lot of the modes are not able to be used to the fullest extent with the 12.5 inch coil. I'm looking forward to trying the 8 inch coil when it is available to see how much of a change it makes. I do realize this machine was designed for use in the wet salt sand at waters edge. the capability of the machine is limited when you enter the water with the 12.5 inch coil.
  11. Back in the water today with my new replacement coil. I was unable to get into the Gulf due to the rough water. I was able to get into the sound and check out the new coil. There was definitely a difference today. I went through testing all the different modes and settings. Still was not very stable in the all metal mode. Settings - Sens 3,Pulse delay-11.5, ATS- 10. I was able to get the most stability in the Volcanic Sand Mode. Sensitivity- 5, ATS-9, Pulse Delay - from 7-11.5 uS Usable over the full range. The higher the pulse delay setting, the more stable it is, I can hunt in this mode just fine. Still cannot vary the coil height much while sweeping the coil, but better than the other modes. All of the modes were a little better this time out. Another factor that may be involved is we have had lots of rain in the last week. Im looking forward to trying it in the Gulf when the water calms down. I am still unable to use the full capability of the machine in the other modes. I still think a smaller coil will help in the other modes.
