  1. Just fitted the test 26" CC X Coil. Let the fun begin!
  2. Geof: I'm going down the big coil path again (with the new 26"CC) as I usually do. Admittedly, It's all or nothing- and often nothing! OTOH, Financially, I only need to hear one faint broad signal-
  3. Same all over the bloody continent this winter. Freezing cold as well here in the SE! Have fun!
  4. Here's some fresh Aussie colours just to boost your enthusiasm Paul, not that it ever needs boosting! Not mine either, but found in Vic, deep down with the 22" CC X coil:
  5. Already planning it Simon. Just have to remember all those deep spots over the last 40 odd years where I wished I had had a bigger coil! 🙂
  6. Some more nice colours from (name withheld!) Must be bl00dy cold working at night lately though!! 😏
  7. NE: Saw a lovely 4.5 oz deep colour on the X Coils FB page today found with a 22"CC but not mine unfortunately 😢
  8. Hi GC: It certainly does. Bear in mind that those settings are applicable for the 22"CC. I have no idea how they would work with other coils. Volume setting about half way but also bear in mind I use a Sennheiser RS160 cordless headphone system (with two separate volume controls in addition to the Z internal volume control) and run with the built in "Z" WM12 transmitter turned off.
  9. Yep! That was the mantra when I started in the late 80's Yes. Beloved (but exhausted) patches are near impossible to ignore. Jim Stewart once described them as "gazing upon the familiar face of a dear old friend" Yes Indeed. Looks like my 7000 with X Coil CC's will be my companion for a while yet-
  10. The 22" CC with some of its deep prey (8 ozs) 😉 Best deep gold setting used (found by testing on undisturbed gold in situ) Xtra Deep/normal/full gain/very low threshold/smoothing off. This setting eliminates all targets under a gram or so, so useless for chasing flyshite but perfect for eliminating surface shot. However it can clearly hear very deep .22 calibre bullets (and gold of that size) better than most other settings. It is also an EMI stable setting even under power lines:
  11. Luis: Had one on my 5000. Runs iron reject like a DD so useful for relics in that respect. Very stable coil with good depth as Aureous has stated.
  12. Agree Klunker, Mine had gone beyond that to "free will" rotation :)
  13. Simon: 26"CC is possibly built into that same casing, not sure. Is any coil heavier than the "Dog" lol? 😂
  14. Yeah Rick, no doubt about those X Coils revolutionising the Z and other detectors, especially the CC's. Probably part of my wear problem is down to swinging the big 22" CC. If that's the case I'll be really testing the locks with the arrival of my 26" CC test coil in a few weeks lol! 😉
  15. -or cheap and nasty, if you prefer. 1: Remove steel pins and remove lock lever 2: Separate brake pads from lock lever 3: Carefully apply a smooth layer of epoxy resin to the tops only of the brake pads, allow time to set hard and file excess off if necessary. 4: Reassemble, then go find a colour- :)
  16. RE: broken shaft: Anyone else thinking "Easy one! Hammer in a hardwood dowel with epoxy resin" and carry on??
  17. Steve: Nah! You're still far too young to fade yet. Get back up to Alaska and find some decent colours- Reg and I have been training a young, keen and gifted (anonymous) apprentice who will inherit all our knowledge. He has already produced astonishing results, some of them somewhat embarrassing (how TF did we miss that?? 🙂 I urge all the old pro's here to do the same. Don't let the knowledge fade with you! There's now a proud detecting tradition to maintain-
  18. Nope: Sorry to disagree but CC's are just as good on earlier GPX's As Aureous mentioned, Detech (and Nexus) both made commercial CC coils for the earlier GPX's. Nothing new there- Reg and I both tested the big 36" (from memory) prototype Detech some years back on my 5000. HOWEVER! Many years ago, my late detecting buddy Jim Stewart and colleague Tony Honey wound experimental CC's for the older GPX's with stunning success. A dozen years back In the WA Pilbara, Tony heard a faint signal deep in solid ironstone (with his modified GPX fitted with 18" homebuilt CC) He tried every other coil he had with no result, and he had plenty! It took a Makita to eventually recover it: Turned out to be a deep 14 oz specimen: One of Tony's home made spiral wound CC's. He has many- Note that Tony's inner receive winding has much greater diameter than commercially available options. He believes this gives greater depth with the trade off being far less stability- Sorry if this is slightly off topic but as a CC convert I thought it relevant-
  19. Pretty sure the X Coils guys are waiting for the 8000 release like everybody else. In the meantime they're unlikely to bother with commercial coils for the 6000. So if Minelab haven't yet got the message and fail to release CC's for the 8000, I'm pretty certain I know who who'll do it for them :)
  20. Simon: Thanks for reposting that thread - I'd clean forgotten about it - The late lamented Fred! 😞 My 18" Detech CC failed before I got a chance to test it on the goldfields thoroughly. In any event, I had already moved on to the "Z" and X Coil CC's. Rick: Agree completely about the obsolescent WM12 system. I immediately fitted my favourite cordless Sennheiser RS160 system to the Z and have never looked back. I've used it on many detectors and have never had distortion, discernible lag or dropouts - allergic to cords!! You're not alone. Absolutely agree - that's why I use the "Kleer" based Hi Fi Sennheiser system.
  21. Nick: The 6000 recently surprised Reg Wilson and myself with its astonishing depth capability on a range of gold sizes (in moderately mineralised ground) here in Victoria, Australia. Story here: https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/18718-reg-wilson-scores-a-deep-colour/ While the 7000 running X Coil concentric coils has a clear advantage with overall depth, The 6000 would have to be the winner due to its light weight and convenience, especially for us older prospectors.
  22. Back home. Missed this post- Many thanks Ilya for the proto 22" CC you sent us for testing two years back. It has repaid its value many times over since then- Looking forward to testing the 26" CC proto as soon as you X Coil guys can organise it. For those who may not know, X Coils have now relocated to Kazakhstan. Google for website- Thanks again, and congratulations on your current ancient gold coin find with your trusty GPX 4000! https://www.facebook.com/groups/3553656301344280
  23. Run cut out yesterday. All good things end eventually - Final tally just over half a kilo:
