  1. I've been getting the manti with dialed in as well this year. I am hunting an old park where the coins are not super deep, but alot of trash. I've concentrated on using the 5 x 8 coil, and like your parks, no easy signals. The coins are camouflaged with trash. In my test garden, I have been comparing the depth and audio signals. I have bumped up recovery speed to 6, and depth has not suffered, but 6 gives a better signal on the iffy targets than the 3 & 4 . I have pulled out 5 wheats, one indian, one buffalo, 2 v nickels, and a barber dime in a 30 foot radius. All coins near iron trash, all targets at the bottom edge of coil detection. I will then go back thru that area with the 11 coil at some point. If the target ID turns up a coin number, while bouncing around, and the audio sounds somewhat good, I dig it. Good results. I dig a bit more nails though, its been worth it.
  2. I agree, a smaller coil than the m8 would be awesome.
  3. Give me an expanded meter anytime. Thats one major thing i did not like about the eq 800. I had a Rutus alter 71 a few years back, and I found the most jewelry with that machine, as it had 120 segments. I would go into a ballfield bleacher area, and the rings would lock on with a solid number, where as the aluminum crap would usually bounce a bit. The only aluminum that locked in was the tab when broken away from the ring.
  4. Nice recoveries Jeff! Now Im not trying to be a smart axx when I ask this question. How can you recover targets that deep with a screwdriver? I personally use a garden trowel to cut out a plug. I freak out when I see these guys enter a park with a shovel!
  5. I used an F70 back in the day for about a year. I replaced it with a Safari, and never went back to Fisher.
  6. A close to new 6" x 8" coil for the Vista X. $70 shipped to your door in the 48 States. Paypal and USPS money order accepted.
  7. I went to a local park that I had found alot of old coins back in the 1980's. I have not been back there for a few decades, As I got married , raised 9 kids, moved out of state, etc. Well I'm retired now, and moved back my old stomping grounds . This was my 3rd visit this year, I detected the same areas of the park I had found all those old coins back then, on the first 2 visits. Brought the Manticore the first time with the 11 coil. Found clad and a few wheats. The second visit I had the 5 x 8 coil , and found double the amount of clad as the first time, and one wheat. This strategy isn't working. Today , I put the 11 back on , and covered an open area, more clad. So I drifted over to where a small pavilion is , about 50 feet from it and 10 ft off the service road. I hit a soft nickel tone, 26-27 ID, and a black blob on the center line on the 2d screen. Looks good, dug down into the black sod, thru a thin layer of pea gravel, into some sandy clay, and pulled out a Buffalo! About 18" away I hit another similar sound , but a lot more scratchy. Id said 26-27 mostly, the 2d screen showed a vertical black line down thru the center line. Dug down about the same depth, and out came a v nickel . Awesome haven't dug one of those in years. Then near by 2 wheaties, about 7". Again one was real clear, the other cent was a lousy signal, but the 3 ID's gave enough hints that it could be good. about 25 ft from the 2 nickels, I dug a 97 nickel. The Buffalo is a 1916-S . I can only see the top half of the 1, but the 6 is clear. The V nickel is a 1908. One wheat is a 36P , the other one is solid green. I'll be taking the 5 x 8 coil back there next time. It feels good to now know of a hotspot for oldies in the park. I can use that area to get back in the groove. And get that manti tuned for the old stuff. Lots of old trash there as well. But patience will pay off. I'm loving the manti! That machine really locks onto nickels. The lousy signal on the v nickel was from iron in the hole. 1/4" iron stain on the back of the nickel.
  8. A dealer in the classified section has them in stock now.
  9. Received the 7.5" coil . Ran it thru the test. It detects my 10k ring at 6" , quarter and nickel at 4, and dime at 3.5" In boost mode, air test. It sure loves 10k gold, coins not as much.
  10. Thats a slick set up , Jane. I have been bench testing my unit. It will pick up my 10k wedding band at 5" if laying flat. Not so much if the ring is on end. It picks up the coins at about 3.5" . It picks up a 7.5 oz aluminum beverage can at 8" . 😝. I'll recheck these targets when my 8" coil comes in for it in about a week.
  11. They must be handcrafting these coils one at a time!
  12. That is the earlier model. I bought the tector pro and it just arrived . I'll have some time next week to test it. The coil is about 3" x 8" I also ordered an 8 round coil for it. It should be here in 3 weeks.
  13. I didn't think of that! But that cable is an issue. I'll have to dive down to the bottom to retrieve the target. They would frown on sand scoops!
  14. Does any one have any experience with this foldable hand held underwater detector? I wonder how sensitive it is on womans gold rings? I like the small foldable design. I could easily bring it in to my health clubs swimming beach area on a small private lake. They would throw a hissy if I walked in there with a regular detector. TIA
  15. You might want to read up on Tom Dankowskis forum on the settings he uses or recommends.
  16. Ol calabash was using a manti with an M-8 coil, and was amazed with the results he had at one of his iron infested sites. Did he buy another, or using a borrowed unit? I don't ever take what he says as gospel, but he's entertaining.
  17. I came across a link for this XP D2 PDF by John Oliver, on another forum. I printed it out. Looks like a real time saver as I learn the D2. Does anyone know where I can find John's email address, I'd like to send him something for all his hard work!. TIA
  18. half of them could go to an Sothebys Collectors auctions!
  19. Certainly you have some in the attic and basement as well! Awesome collection there/.
  20. Nice coin, now a question. Out of the hundreds of detectors you have owned thru the years, how high up on your list is the D2?
