  1. I am very fond of my Makro gold racer and still have it to date. Matter of fact, I carry it with me while using my gpz 7000. It is helping me learn the sounds the gpz 7000 makes on ground and target. The gold kruz is an upgrade of this detector. A true upgrade, slight upgrades but important ones. I think it is a great intro unit for a multitude of grounds. I had the Monster and didn't like it all that much, for my own reasons. That does not mean it is a bad unit. It simple did not fit what I wanted from a detector in that range. Plus Makro has more coil options that might be important to you over time. Each to their own, fits detector selecting to a tee.

    Good luck.

Great way to pop the ZED cherry with a couple golden ones (and a cold one of course).  So you get skunked on occasion?  That is why we enjoy those little ones so much when we do find gold.  Being able to continue even after the goose egg days is what separates most hunters.

Keep it up my friend and thanks for sharing.

Thank you Gerry. I hope this weekend will bear more fruit.

Well, that's not really the idea either which is why there has to be a limit. The bottom line is use them any way you want, but the 20 per day limit stands, amd so keep it in mind. It's like money - you only have so much so decide for yourself how you want to spend it.

    On me lol

  4. You have a new brother in the family.

Special thanks to each of you that gave me advise on this decision. Extra call out to Brian for checking the Zed out for me in person. Lot of respect for the tight group we have here.

Feel free to drop tips and hints in here or pm. I have read so many threads my eyes are bleeding lol. Come on 1 oz Nug.

JW looking forward to nugget find sharing with you.

    Fred low and slow, Check!

Nenad hit me up with more of those tips, so I can pay for this thing lol lol.

There are two types of Gain or Sensitivity settings. One type boosts the actual transmit (TX) power of the detector. The other type boosts or amplifies the receive (RX) signal. The GPZ 7000 Sensitivity setting is the second type. That being the case increasing the sensitivity is not actually making the machine more powerful. You amplify signals from nuggets, but also from ground noise and electrical interference (EMI).

    etc.....snip (see post)

Perfectly stated post. I got more from this post than I have from most others about settings.

  6. I learned that less in my area. Now I pull the dirt at least a foot from the hole. Then move the checked dirt to another pile off to the side, never back in the hole. Just never know if the is a deeper target. Plus some times it just seems gold wants to run from us. Good hunting.

It depends purely on the location and nature of the gold. In an area with nothing but fine gold a detector may find nothing where dredges, sluices, and even just pans succeed. Nuggets are the prerequisite for nugget detecting. Most dredgers get used to consistently finding gold and have a hard time with detecting, where you can go ages between finds.

Legalities aside I would rather try and make a living with a dredge rather than a detector. It would not be a 1.5” dredge however, which I consider to be more like a gas powered crevice cleaner.

Lol, post is right on the money. I like the crevice sucker part. I agree, dreding is the true money maker on a good spot. For money making nothing under a 5 inch. However I have a fondness for proline's 3 inch, you could do well on a small creek the big boys can't run on. Dredging is peaceful and love to watch pickers go up the nozzle.

I was one of the first people to get an Equinox 800 when they came out earlier this year.  It has been a lot of fun and I have found some of my best beach finds with it. (A gold chain and silver ring.)  I've even found 2 little nuggets and an attractive specimen.

Until today I put my 3030 in mothballs for the right time and I'm here to tell you that the 3030/17 is a great beach detector for my area of Southern California.  It covers a large area and it goes deep.  It goes deeper on average than the 800.  I doubt that would be the case if the 800 gets a larger coil but for now my 3030/17 setup with a hipstick (weightless) can out hunt the 800.  I did learn a few things about signal sounds from the 800 that helped me find a little chain today so the 3030 can hunt.

We all know the 800 is a great all around detector and I think it is going to beat a 3030 in a park, field or trashy area where you need a faster detector to unmask a good target.  It will be my backup to the 7000 for finding gold because it is light and fun.  It is not going to out do the 7000.

My wife can use the 800 on the beach any time she wants and I won't feel like I have to buy a 600 or an 800 if I go with her.

    So, I'm glad I didn't sell my 3030 and my 7000.

    Mitchel

Sell a 7000 would not have been a good idea. Glad you kept it. The time to sell a 7000 is when Steve does lol. Means something is coming down the pipe.
