Dig it...Inflation and crime are hitting us hard. It's no longer costing just an arm and a leg. And, to top it all off, the leg that was given was stolen!

I find those sterling CTR rings fairly regular.
When I moved from Salt Lake to Florida four years ago, my CTR ring finds became non-existent. Before that, silver CTR rings were almost a given at school playgrounds. I only found one gold men's CTR ring, but it is in French. I found it on a hunt with my wife--a rare treat indeed--on a soccer field. Before getting out of the car, I said that we are going to find gold today. I gave her the G2 and I told her to dig all the aluminum signals she got. I was using the E-trac, and about 50 ft from where she was digging, I got a nice signal. Out popped my one and only gold CTR. As I recall, she did have a nice pile of pull tabs.😁

do dig it?
If in doubt, dig it out! Many on this forum have a ton of time on their various machines. Most of them, if not tired and worn out, will dig the iffy signals if there is even a chance that the target may be good. Take the time to learn what your machine is telling you, and you will be rewarded in due time.

The "crust" on your piece is too thick in IMHO to be "fusion crust" which is usually on about as thick as a fingernail, I think it's slag.
But grind a window anyway to be sure.
Sometimes deep coins come up with this crust on it as the soil here in this area of FL is so sandy. If it hit the ground red hot, it might fuse some sand to it. I'm just speculating. Thanks for your thoughts!

One of my finds with my new Deus II this weekend while detecting at a local baseball field was what I thought a chunk of iron. Upon looking at it tonight, I was expecting it to be highly magnetic; it was not. A strong magnet will attract to it, but it struggles to stick to it. I hit it a couple times with a hammer to see if I could break off any crud from the outside. A chunk came off, and it exposed a bright, metallic looking substrate. It is very heavy for its size. I tried scratching the metallic area, thinking it may be lead, but it would not scratch with an aluminum chain link fencing piece. Any help would be appreciated as to whether this could really be a meteorite. If I need to cut it to find out, help with what direction to cut would also be super!
Update--I used a file on it, and it barely took anything off. The metal is very hard.
Update 4-28-22--The close-up pics were taken using a USB microscope.

I received the 11" Deus II on Tuesday, and I have used it about 6 hours so far. We are slowly becoming friends. Still trying to figure out the sounds and TID of targets. I have not done any update yet.
At the local ball field again today with high hopes of gold. I dug a good amount of aluminum, so there is less for next time. The silver ring was likely passed over by the 15x12" Equinox coil in the past, but the bracelet was a recent drop. Ring was about an 88 and bracelet was a 52.

You have that Equinox purring like a kitten!!!
Since March 5, that makes 4 gold and 2 silver jewelry pieces while using the 10x5 coil in the turf. I know it has a lot to do with location, but the coil has been very helpful at picking through the clutter and getting close to larger metal items.
-
Went out for another two hours this morning with the Equinox and the 10x5 coil. I went to another BB court that has some grass in the inside of the fence enclosure.
While there were some coins close up to the chain link fence, the 10K football helmet (which I though was junk at the time) and the daughter pendant were in the small dried oak leaves behind one of the hoops and the shallow dirt under the front of a bench, respectively.

All my sites are just too clean !!
Time to move! When we relocated to FL, my wife based the location of our house on a few things: ease of getting out into the morning commute with right turns vs waiting for traffic by having to make a left turn, how far away from employment we were, and how many grassy parks were within easy driving distance for me. Now, if you do move, don't come my way because then I'll have to move again.😁

That could keep you busy for quite a while doing fence areas, concrete reinforced walls, etc.
So many places, so little time! I had almost been exclusively using the 15x12" coil as it covers so much area in an impressive way. However, the targets are becoming sparse after 4 years of being pounded without a lot of depositing being done due to COVID. Had to try a different tactic. It is slow going, but it has its rewards!

it will pick out targets while sounding off on a pole or chainlink fence at the same time.
I agree with that. And the speed at which it goes to the next target is phenomenal, making the high recovery numbers on the Equinox act like they are like pro wrestlers...on muscle enhancing substances.💪

Out for two hours this morning with the Equinox and the 10x5 coil trying to uncover what is missed by others who use lesser machines and bigger coils. I concentrated around a BB court right up close to the fence. The cobra was found away from the fence in a grassy area in the shade.
If you want to get close to fences, get this coil. I took a pic of one target that was about 2 inches from the fence with the chain link fence bowed out over the target. The coil had less issues getting that close to the fence than the Garrett pinpointer.
The bracelet was found in the mulch on the playground area. Most of the change was found up tight to the court.

This seems to be right up Tom Dankowski's alley. Have you checked his website for disucssions of the Deus 2 performance?
No, I haven't gone there. Thanks for the idea!

Maybe others will say it's some sort of incredible depth monster, but I haven't found that with about 20 hours on it. I really like it for what makes it different from the Equinox, but it's not depth:
Way lighter and more ergonomic (9" coil) - you can swing it all day
Works great with the backphones and the MI-6 pinpointer, your overall target recovery is faster IMO
Tighter IDs, rarely do I see a wider spread than 3 numbers
Infinitely more adjustable than the Equinox 600
Almost no interference except over a buried power line 🤪 I haven't tried it in all my bad situations but excellent so far. It's very quiet, even at high sensitivity.
Some say it feels like a toy, but mine is rugged. Don't get that.
What I don't like:
Charging it is a nightmare if you stand it in a corner. The 3 wire cable doesn't reach everything so I have to take the remote off and put the headphones on the floor. Hate the coil charging clip. Rural engineering is forthcoming. 😵 Wish they did a magnetic charge thing like the Equinox.
Infinitely more adjustable than the Equinox 600, there is a lot more you can screw up. 😀 Glad I can save profiles now. Modify a program and don't save it, you lose all your tweaks.
IMO if you have an Equinox 800 and are killing it, the Deus 2 would be a great addition especially for places the Equinox gets hammered. To use it in water requires that fiddly antenna, not sure I'm gonna like that. I was pulling coins at 12-14" at the beach with the 10x5!
It's not this wondrous thing if you already have the Equinox, but I do like what makes it different, and I'm glad to have two great detectors now. 🙂
Next week I'll be taking it to the beach... Stay tuned 😁
Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I have an Equinox 800 with 4 coils. I am able to pull a silver dime from 16" with the 15" coil when the soil is moist. The 5x10 is excellent at separation, but it obviously is not as deep as the 15". Having never had a Deus I, I'm looking for advice from others whether or not to pull the trigger on a Deus II with our extremely mild soil in FL (0 ground balance on the Equinox).

Looks like the 10x5 got you closer to the fence
I've hit the field with the 12x15" many, many times. Now it's time to clean up the edges. The 5x10" does an exceptional job of picking through the clutter. I've found three pieces of gold within one week that were pulled from the fence area. Guess where I'm headed back to again!

After the rain passed this morning, I got out this afternoon for a couple hours to the local football field. The third solid signal in, using the 5x10 with the Equinox along the chain link fence, turned out to be a crispy necklace about an inch down that had three pendants on it. After seeing two that had rusted, the hope for number three was not high. After rubbing a bit, I got my phone out to zoom in on the top of the hanger to check for hallmarks. Surprise, 14K! The signal was a 16-17 with jumpy tones as well.
About an hour later came a strong 9. Expecting aluminum, I was elated to find the second possible gold of the day!
When I got home, I noticed the resizer on the ring and that there was gold that was coming off in a strip. My heart sank. But then, I noticed the gold was coming from the resizer. My heart was reinflated!

Went out to another local park for two hours today with the same setup as yesterday when I found the gold Buccaneer flag charm. Today was 17 quarter, a fake plastic penny, and a medallion. Anyone see one like this before? It rang up as a 36 and was just off the sidelines of a soccer field (Equinox).

Excellent find, GB! Looks to be an exact match, and I learned that it is a charm vs. a pendant! Thanks 👍

Went out to the local football field for about an hour and a half. I was running the Equinox with the 5x10 and focusing on lower tones while running in Park 1, 4 recovery, all metal, and 22 sensitivity. It rang in a strong 7-8 and was down under a small root about 4-5 inches down just a little over a foot away from the fence. Looks to be 14K. Still plenty of pull tabs left for the future!

What’s the chances of there being a roll of quarters like that in the ground? Seems like an unrealistic test to me.
I would have thought the same thing until...Just after receiving the Equinox in March of 2018, I was thrown a going away party by the organization I had been working for. Someone knew I metal detected, so they told me they buried 5 rolls of quarters out in the grassy field on the property as a gift. Each roll was put into a plastic bag before being buried. They gave me the general location, but for the life of me I couldn't find any of them. I assumed it would hit it loud and clear. The person who buried the rolls had to show me the 5 locations within a few feet in order for me to be able to put the pieces together and find each one. They had only split the ground with a shovel and closed up the ground around the rolls, only putting the coins about 4 inches down. I felt very humbled that I was unable to find them. At least now I know why it wasn't working.

Being in Florida, my head would bake in a matter of minutes with the solid material used on the back of the hat. If it had mesh instead for the back and no California on the front, I might get one. Thanks for the laugh at the end of a long day.😂
Deus 2, A Key, Two Lumps Of Metal And Silver All In One Hole
in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Posted
Everything on the digger came out of the same hole while detecting on a local football field today. The Deus II somehow detected the chain, which I thought was gold at first. The signal was strange, but it was mixed with enough high tones to get me to dig. The chain was spread out in a straight line in the soil, so that may have been the reason it sounded good enough to dig. I have been over this area before with the Equinox 15" coil.
