15" Nox It Out Of The Park!
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Thanks for your thoughts and concerns over the hardships that are endured by those in Florida. If someone living in Florida hated green, they would really despise the fact that grass stays green all year long. And the sandy soil... don't even get me started! -
I am currently using the Equinox almost exclusively with the 15" coil for fast coverage. I feel it does a great job for the type of hunting I do on ballfields and parks, and it is no slouch when it comes to finding really small items either. I really never use the 11" coil, but occasionally I will switch over to the 5x10 when overrun with signals. Seeing how the Deus II does with the 9" coil has me wondering if going with the 11" might somewhat negate the benefits of the Deus II.

15" Nox It Out Of The Park!
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
No, but I just saw that there is a wind-chill advisory for parts of Florida! 😂 -
We'll, actually, it was in a park on the ballfield. I went on the other side of the fence from where I found the silver dime last weekend. The 15" had no issues among the trash, even running at 4 recovery and 23 sensitivity in Park 1. The dimes were about 7-8" down about 15 ft. away from each other in moist soil. This is only my 3rd Mercury dime I've ever found; the rest have been at the same park on different fields. Florida is "cold" today at 50° with strong wind. Not many people out and about.

Do you send it to a refinery? If so, which one do you prefer?

My Cheeks Were Rosie
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
It depends if I'm looking for shallow jewelry or "older" silver coins. The deeper I want to go, the slower the recovery speed and higher the sensitivity. -

Since getting the 15" coil, my 11" has been on vacation. Yes, the 15" is a bit heavier, and it may only get a little more depth. However, it still finds the crazy small bits and covers the ground much faster when detecting open ball fields. If I detect where there is a ton of metal in the ground, I switch to the 5x10. -

But at least you have time for research! Here in Florida there is so little time for that because we have to detect instead. Grass is always greener on the other side... especially in Florida.😉 -

Thanks for your concern regarding my comfort in the brisk Florida air.😊 If the dime has plow marks on it, maybe it was a snowbird drop. Or, global warming is really a thing.😁 -
To the local ballfield today with temps in the upper 50s. I know, most of you feel bad for me having to endure the cold here in Florida. I was so cold I had to wear PANTS! Running the Equinox 15" coil on 24 sensitivity and 4 recovery in Park 1, I got an iffy high tone mixed with some iron grunts which sounded a lot like other silver dimes I have dug on the same field. While Rosie has seen better days, the hunt ultimately had a silver lining.

I've never used a Deus I so I have no context or knowledge about what options the Deus II has for audio out. If I understand correctly, there is no Bluetooth. I currently use an Equinox with the wireless module plugged into my favorite earbuds. Is there an option like this or do the earbuds get plugged into the remote control? I don't want to wear the wireless headphones because I live in Florida and will likely drown in the sweat. I tried looking at the manual, but I didn't see what I was looking for. Thanks for any insight you can give.

Couple Of Recent Finds
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Both sides are set in the same. I think a gyroscope is the answer, and the older ones had a thicker iron "cage" to them by the looks of it. All the parts came out of the same hole and were likely damaged by my inability to get it out of the hole easily. Thanks for the idea about the drawer pull!- 11 replies

Local parks with the Equinox 15" coil running in Park 1. The Panama coin was on the surface right below the grass. The car was in the outfield of a ballfield, and the Firestone nozzle was in an area of a park that is now used for equine related endeavors. Any ideas about the other item that has rusting iron with the center piece that is decorative? Love being in FL this time of year vs. being in a colder climate and knowing there is a coin under the frozen layer of soil that will have to wait for the spring to extract!

Western Frontier Relic Road Trip With Tomca

Western Frontier Relic Road Trip With Tomca
Againstmywill replied to Cal_Cobra's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Could it be that proof of the Knights Templars was uncovered by expert metal detectorsist Cal_Cobra while detecting an ancient site where more happened than appears, or is it part of something bigger... something only more exploration will uncover? -
14" Wheat Penny
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I believe it to be 1953. I was really hoping it would be an IHP based on how deep it was. -
14" Wheat Penny
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Sound was there, similar to a deep silver dime that sounds high...mostly. I was using 50 tones. The ID was a bit iffy (20-33) and didn't show for about half the sweeps. I am in FL sandy soil which has close to no mineralization. -
Was at a local park today and was able to run at 24 sensitivity. I set recovery speed at 4 and dug the good sounds. This penny sound was very faint and I would not have heard it without earbuds. It was so deep, I was about to leave the hole after digging a lot of dirt thinking it was a false signal. Most of the deep coins from this area come out around 8"-10", so this was outside of the norm. The coin was flat on the bottom and was still stuck in the dirt when I dug it out with fingers. I would not believe it if I wasn't there taking the pics. Equinox, 15" coil, Park 1, 24 sensitivity, 4 recovery speed

Got The Lead Out
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Of course, I forgot the most plausible explanation... it's Templar, Baby! I'm sending it off now to have it analyzed. Will it be found to contain lead mined in Europe, or is there some other explanation that will add to the mystery of Oak Island? 🙂 -
Got The Lead Out
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
There is a ton of it in the ground! It may be a couple years from now.😱 -
Found my heaviest piece of lead today in a local park along with some additional old parts to railroad cars (I think). I'm guessing this came from when they used lead to join pipes together. Anyone familiar with that process is welcome to confirm or disagree.
