I went out tonight to a local football field with the exclusive goal of digging a gold chain. Before going out, I looked on this forum to see what numbers I should be looking for. I came across this (thanks 😊) and used the +4-5 range as my target numbers. I know gold chains can come in other numbers, but I had about an hour to detect. While all the numbers in that range turned out to be aluminum, I ran across a solid 9 and had to dig. While it is not a chain, it's the next best thing. I scanned around the pendant, but all the +1-4 targets were foil and aluminum. I always use Park 1, but tonight for kicks, I used Park 2. Not sure it made the difference, but I have been over that area with Park 1 in the past. Park 2, 7 recovery, 17 sensitivity, all metal, 15" coil

Looks like it says "Sardines." -
I've had mine since way back in March of 2018. I haven't had water infiltration, but I use it for turf hunting 99% of the time. Here are some pics of mine in the same location as the leak in the video.

It was completely trashed inside due to the roots of grass growing inside and mud/water filling it up. This was a couple years back that this came out of the ground.

Any Word On Shipment Of Coiltek 10 X 5 Coils?
Againstmywill replied to relicmeister's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Take note that the coil came with a plastic bolt and wing nut. My original Minelab bolt did not fit through the holes on the Coiltek. The new coil snugs up very well and seems easier to tighten down than the OEM coils, IMHO. -

FedEx missed the Saturday delivery, but it did show up today. Like mentioned by another member, I am a bit surprised at the choice of packaging. All looks OK for now, however. Now, to find the time to use it! -

Hence the reason you found it! -
I went back to the local park where 3 silver dimes came out of the ground on the same day a few weeks back. I have found Barber dimes and Roosevelt dimes but never a Mercury dime. I thought this one was a Roosevelt, so I put it in the special zipper section of my pouch. When I got home and cleaned it, it was a nice surprise! Can't wait to see what the Coiltek can pull out of that area when it arrives tomorrow.😁 Equinox, 15" coil, Park 1, 5 recovery, all metal, 22 sensitivity

I had signed up to be alerted when a certain dealer had stock. I was up @ 12:15 am on July 1, and an email came through saying that they had stock. I clicked through and saw they had one more available. I was able to order and will await a tracking number. I was really hoping for one before next week when I go out west on vacation into gold country. We'll see if it gets here by then! -

War Nickel And ? At Local Park
Againstmywill replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Deep silver often comes out of our sandy, shell-sprinkled soil looking like this. I'm quite sure that there was fill added to the field from either the gulf or bay. So, salt water, no. Salty sand, yes.- 6 replies

War Nickel And ? At Local Park

Thanks for the journey down the rabbit hole looking at PDFs and websites of railroad bearing types and applications... something I had never really thought about before. 🤯- 6 replies

Today I went to the place in a local park where I have recovered many old iron relics. There is likely still a literal ton of iron under the turf. We have had a good amount of rain in FL, so digging down 10-12 inches is not as horrible as it had been about a month back. Because the area is about 100 ft away from the tracks, I believe the area had been used as a railroad scrap pile because of the heavy-duty iron pieces that have come out of the ground. I have included two such pieces in the pics and would be interested to know if anyone knows what they are. The nickel came out from about 10" so caked with sand that it looked like a button. As usual: Equinox, 15" coil, Park 1, recovery 5, all metal.

I also bought a pair and agree that the sound is not lacking. In fact, there was not much difference between a surface find and one buried deep as far as the volume goes. I was using (and likely still will) the wireless module with wired Skullcandy earbuds. Are the PAWWs worth $10? Yes!

I went out with my son to a local park, and he found this. It has the same thing on both sides. Any ideas? Thanks
-
It might be. Last night I didn't clean it off completely, so I thought the back had 925 in the oval. Today, after a better scrub, it appears very hard to make out anything. It does have a high "ting" when dropped on the counter, unlike zinc pieces I've found in the past.

Was out to a local park for a couple hours toward evening today in the FL heat and humidity. This silver pendant rang in as a 22-23 on the Equinox using Park 1, 50 tones, 17 sensitivity, all metal, using the 15" coil. I had high hopes when I also got a "golden" ring than was a solid 20. Sadly, all that glitters is not gold.☹️ Cleaned up lots of aluminum bits so I won't have to dig them next time!

Will be in town for the week and may have some time for detecting. Anyone have any time to meet for a hunt or leads for relics/silver coin possibilities? Thanks

I like to hunt ball fields if possible or schools (location, location, location). Generally there are fewer pulltabs than at a park. Because of fewer targets, there is a greater chance that the 13-15 numbers will be a gold ring. I have noticed that most of the women's rings I found have been in the 9-12 range with unwaivering numbers. When I get a strong signal in that range I get excited! Men's bands have been between 15-19 for me. As far as the Nox goes, I almost exclusively use the 15" coil. Is it nose-heavy? Yes! Does it cover a ton of ground and find good stuff? Yes! I have found far more gold in the turf with the 15" vs the 11" because that is what I use. I stick with Park 1, all metal, 50 tones, recovery at 7 so I can hear everything in the ground. I adjust sensitivity as needed, but I usually drop down to 17 in the mild FL Sandy soil so I don't have to dig really deep. The reason for that is because I can cover more area if I'm not digging a foot down. If I'm searching for silver coins, I lower the recovery speed to 5 and increase sensitivity.

The stones are a bit translucent and have some lines running across the face. All the onyx I've seen (which is not much) has been very opaque. Another possibility is obsidian.
