It may be really tarnished silver in that one spot. Here is a silver half dollar that was crusty when it came out of the ground, but it cleaned up well.

Nice find, F350! Wanted to add that it also called it a silver Christian cross. Not sure about the silver content, but maybe they meant the color of it?

Just a wild guess...a pew(t)er cross made for the Knights Templars by Sir Francis Bacon...or a lead cross made from metal mined in France. You may want to take it to a blacksmith to find out how it was made. I'm guessing that carbon dating may show that it was from the 1600s, +/- 400 years. Yes, my Tuesday evening revolves around The Curse of Oak Island.😉 Cool looking cross!

The rounded part is smooth and doesn't look like it ever had something on that side.

Was out for 4 hours total today to the local football field and surrounding park after that. This is the same place I have found the silver half dollars, the steam engine oiler, the possible 1800s campaign token, many gold rings, etc. Basically, I never know what I'm going to find. I have cleaned out a lot of jewelry, so I'm hitting different areas that are around the field. I got a strong signal and knew it was iron. I initially thought it was a railroad piece when I just uncovered the eye...or a ring bolt brought here from Oak Island. It took at least 10 minutes of digging because it was flat in the ground. I had to uncover a good amount before it would budge. I don't like to hang out for too long in a park when I have a good amount of earth sitting above ground. Thankfully, there were no people around. Anyone know if it is hand forged, and what it is officially called? It looks like a hoe, but it is very heavy. After I took the iron piece back to the vehicle, I hit another spot that used to be an old home/farm. That is where the lead pipe comes in. It also was way down, but once I got an end, it was easier to lift than the other piece. Equinox, 15", park 1, recovery 4 or 7... can't remember.

Took it in to a local coin expert, and it is for sure just a destroyed coin vs. an error. The two spots that are wrecked are not really the best place for mounting, so I'm not sure about the cause.

GB, do you think this coin is special in any way (cuds), or is it just damaged from use? The Y on LIBERTY looks to be wonky for sure.

They are properly rotated 180° when the coin is flipped.

It is in Florida, so it does have history. The area was a farming/citrus growing area prior to settlement. I believe the area was incorporated back in the 50's. I have found some additional silver coins and wheat pennies in the same area. Some have been down as deep as about 1 foot. There are definitely newer clad coins above this layer of old. So, I would guess it was not kids playing with Dad's collection.

There are two damaged spots on the rim.

This 1942 is the first walking Liberty (or any Liberty coins) for me, so I suppose it is a bucket list coin. It was found tonight on the athletic fields close to home where I have pulled some eclectic items in the past. Although the coin is only worth about $10, its age beats the Franklin half I found about nine months back in the same general area. Rang in between 29-34 on the Equinox. Park 1, 7 recovery, 15" coil, all metal, 18 sensitivity.

I'm quite sure it was farmland before, likely for citrus or sugar cane.

Was out for two hours today to a local football field after a rain. I have detected the field and surrounding area many, many times in the past. However, today there were many more interesting finds than normal! The only problem is, I have no idea what some of them are. The coin, which had an ID of 21, looks like it could be a colonial copper of some sort. I have circled what I think is the word "et"... assuming the meaning is "and." The brass item has glass windows, and was easy to take apart. Maybe a drip feed oiler? It was down about a foot. If you could lend your insight, that would be awesome 👍. The knife was crusty, but a bit of hitting helped break the sandy rust off. The handle appears to be plastic/ bakelite. I am along the west coast of FL around Tampa. Equinox, 15", park 1, 6 recovery

Any update on what the stones are?

Out to a local park today. About the 3rd dig along a walking path there was a 26-27 I'd on the Equinox. Maybe a couple dimes, a quarter and nickel together, or...a silver pendant! Anyone have an idea what the stone might be, assuming it is a stone and not plastic? Park 1, all metal, 7 recovery, 15" coil

Had a first today...not a bucket list item, however. As I was grabbing the Equinox handle after being on the ground for a dig, I felt something like oatmeal between my glove and handle. Hmm, strange. A quick glance reassured me that it was indeed poo. Thankfully, it was not the worst I have ever smelt and there was plenty of Spanish moss to wipe with.🤪 After that park was enjoyed, I hit another park that has a small pond and tennis courts. Wasn't sure there was going to be anything there, but nothing ventured... Besides many quarters at that place (24 for the day), there was a good signal. When I pinpointed and brushed the leaves away, there was the ring staring back at me. Although fake, I guess it's better than another round of oatmeal! When light shines through the stones(because the underside of the stones are visible from inside the ring), there are definitely rainbow-like flashes going on.

Out for two hours today to a local park around a fishing pond. I have fished there before, but caught nothing. I have also dirt-fished there and caught nothing but coins. There were a good number of dimes and nickels, so it has not been pounded too badly. I was detecting around the pond trying to hang where people would picnic and lounge. I got a strong 18, and I actually dug it! Usually it takes a lot to dig an 18 after digging so many crusty pennies at 18! This was definitely a stronger signal than a penny, so it was dug. The ring was only about 1-2" down, so either it has been passed over many times or just missed. I had very high hopes that the stones would test well, but my initial tests done using the Amazon tester were not promising. However, gold is gold, and it looks really nice.
